Neal Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 A pleasure to have Jim and Gordon joining John and myself for the day. Bridge at 2.35m a tad tight to get under............ bridge at 2.30m scrapes a bit of the cabin roof gelcoat off!!!!! To be honest whilst preparing for this comp armed with all manner of assorted rubber thingies that have sat in a box for over 20 years and a few spinners and some feathers I was not particularly confident. Plan was to have a bit of a go and then settle down for a bit of bottom fishing. Loads of fish breaking the surface just outside the harbour entrance - John and Jim scored first - a call from Charlie confirmed that they were struggling in my next planned area so we shot out to see if we could find a few mackeral - if only to use as bait. Chucked them in the live bait tank just in case. We went round to St Albans ledge and set up a few drifts where we had caught Bass before - not taking all too seriously I slipped a live one over the side whilst everyone else used Shads. I caught a nice Bass for my Tea and on the last of our drifts which was now at speeds of 5 knots dropped a real biggie. Gordon suggested a move into the calmer waters off Chapmans Pool at which point Charlie came in as well. A few drifts later saw John catching Pollack on red feathers and I swapped to a shrimp rig. Soon we had our pollock and somehow I picked up a trigger fish and a wrasse and Gordon added a pout. Heading back we attempted to see if anything was on the Wrecks off Peverell but all the dive boats shot out for slack water. We finally ended up over Poole rocks for a couple of quick drifts and I bagged a scad. John Young, 4 Mackerel, 4 Pollock and a Garfish Gordon Moore, 4 mackerel, 4 pollock and a pout Jim (AKA Small fry) 4 Mackerel, 2 Pollock Neal 4 Mackerel, 3 Pollock, 1 wrasse, 1 scad and 1 trigger fish I think that's correct, as we left the score sheet on the boat - or at least I did!!! Thanks guys and a big thanks to the FPO for letting me out on our wedding aniversary. Quote
Jim Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 I allowed myself to get cold on sunday and been feeling rough all day. Neal told you how it went. I'm off to bed early. I'll post pictures tomorrow. Thanks again for taking me under your wings lads. Jim Paul D - How do I set up a Photo bucket ? Quote
Coddy Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 I did not register for the comp as I did not have crew nor did I know I was going out for definate! Anyway I did manage a few hours on Sunday on my own. Saw Awol on my way out as they were getting fuel. Caught a couple of mackerel, doggies and a small tope 3.5lbs Did a few miles in Lady C and had a problem with the starter relay, wire broke on a terminal connector! Soon managed to fix it and was looking to head in early due to tides to get on mooring but with the breakdown got there just too late. Had to wait a couple of hours to get enough water under the prop! (only just managed it) Nice to get out after so long. Coddy Quote
Paul D Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 I did register for the comp but having had a cold earlier in the week and then fishing all day on the Saturday with Tomo on Just Purfik I was not in a fit state to fish on the Sunday. Saturday though managed 2 bass and 2 gar on lures plus the 4 mackeral and that was only fishing for around 45 mins with lures, so could have done OK I think. Great fishing on Just Purfik on the Saturday and I even managed to lose a real nice fish which would have easily been my biggest lure caught bass to date. - I will be back out to get him another day Want a Pirate 21 now !
