Met up with Rich before 8.30 and pottered out for the Species Comp.

Tried one of my plaice marks in the harbour, and Rich hit fish first drop...but it was a lovely Tub Gurnard of about 1.5lb, Rich's first hence a Personal Best. Nothing else showed so we bagged up on Ballan Wrasse both while waiting for the fog to lift, including another PB for Rich at 2lb 6oz. We then tried a drift or two for bass near Poole entrance, getting a fish each, and a bonus Gilthead Bream for Rich (another PB?). Saw garfish following baits so changed tackle and caught 2 in 2 drops, plus a bonus mackerel.

Lots of mullet shoaling in the entrance area by the way...not keen on any baits presented!

We tried off Ballard (another Tub, to me this time), then tried the Spoil Grounds for the alleged cod and whiting....for zero success. Not even a bite. Stuck it out an hour or so in glorious sunshine with big leads, then drifted a while to see if that helped, but no joy.

Tried Poole Patches for the usual bits, but nothing showing, before returning back inside the harbour for a final plaice of about a pound and a half to me.

Overall:

Rich Stevens:

Tub Gurnard 1 = 3

Ballan Wrasse 4, inlcuding a PB of 2lb 6oz = 8 + 2 = 10

Gilthead Bream 1 (does this count) = 3

Bass 1 = 5

Bonus for 4 species = 20

Total = 41 points (please check)

Mike Fox:

Tub Gurnard 1 = 3

Ballan Wrasse 4 = 8+2 = 10

Garfish 2 = 4

Mackerel 2 = 2

Bass 1 = 5

Plaice 1 = 3

Bonus for 6 species = 40

Total = 67 (please check)

Lovely day out after the fog lifted, saw a good few club boats out and about.

Thanks again for the trip Rich!

Myself and Charlie had a quite relaxed day. Set off at 8:30 after a fry up at the Slip Way!!!! (RNLI Restaurant).

The fog was very dense and vis was at a minimum.

We fished around the entrance then the Training Bank then off to Ballard. After that we went over to PPatch, meeting up with Warren on the way.

Rob:

2 Bass = 10

1 Pollock = 5

2 Dogfish = 1

+ bonus for 3 species = 10

Total = 26

Charlie A:

4 Dogfish = 4 + 1

Total = 5

A great day out - though more relaxed than usual (due to weather).

Too busy to get out again.

But I did get a stroll along the beach at Hamworthy Pier. The water was crystal clear and smooth as glass. I saw Lots of Bass at Just under the legal limit and thought of you who got out today.

What a glorious day to go and dangle your bait.

Well done to all who did get out

Bill and I managed to get out without any problems today. smile.gif

Apart from a foggy trip through the harbour be headed East along the front of Bournemouth.

My first drop I pulled in a Tub gurnard a while later Bill managed the same but it was slow going.

We then headed off to Poole rocks and managed LSD and black bream.

As the bites dropped off we headed out further looking for a ray or two but again on the first drop caught another Tub gurnard of 1.25lb.

Again Black Bream, LSd's and a couple of mackeral were pulled in then Bill managed a small pack tope of 3.5lb.

Again things slowed so we headed into the harbour for a drift or two and again Bill managed a 3/4lb plaice.

Bill score

Gurnard x 1

B.Bream x 2

LSD x 5

Tope x 1

Plaice x 1

So total score for Bill was 57

Dave S score

Gurnard x 2

B.Bream x 2

Mackeral x 2

LSD x 2

Total score for me 38

Good to be out at last and nice weather as well.

Caught up with a couple of club boats in the harbour, did put a call out on the radio for club members but no response which was disapointing as I thought a number of boats were out.

Managed to get out and had quite an interesting day. My tally was

1 garfish

1 red gurnard

10 bass (all small)

4 mackerel (all jumbos, caught on the bottom)

1 dogfish

1 grey mullet

1 brill (1.5lbs)

Cant find the score sheet so will have to rely on Paul (please!)

Went out to have a go off the Needles.

Late start ( 11 AM ) but good job really as it was still foggy on the way out.

Once on the mark an absolutely beautiful day but nothing to write home with regard to the fishing. 4 Pout and 2 whiting for me ( one reasonable one of 2lb 4oz though ).

On the return we had the full flood to help us on the way past Hurst and up the Solent. Got past the choppy bit and opened Neo up. 23 knots on a smooth sea - what fun but I started getting a sensation that the boat wasn't going like it should ( seemed to start getting slightly sluggish ) and then a loud alarm sounds ....

Turned off engine thinking "what the ????".

Turned ignition back on and alarm goes off - the "hot" light is lit.

Engine is steaming a bit so peered over the transom and there is a Tesco bag wrapped around the leg over the water intake.

Cleared the bag, started the engine, water coming out OK and no alarm. Phew !

Then hammered back in with a Pirate 21 back in for the rest of the way, so all OK after a brief scare.
