DommyBoy
Hi guys, I am having a play with the electrics on the boat soon and want to get our VHF working. We brought it 2nd hand through the club (sorry I cant remember who from....Dan will know) and installed it etc. The problem is that when we are at sea with it on the alarm/call signal keeps going off. Do we have to get the old MMSI number deleted or transferred to our own info or what. Also Dan tells me the fuse keeps blowing so any helpers with advise would be appreciated......Paul D, or Chris (AKA thats_a_biggin), or anyone else. Thanks in advance guys! Adam F
Dom, Firstly the 'alarm' going off isnt always a call to your particukar unit - if a group or Mayday call is sent them your unit will pick that up also. With regards to deleting the MMSI - this usually required the unit to be sent back to the manufacturer to clear, they can only be set once from scratch. Finally - the fuse blowing, sounds obvious, but check the fuse rating - a VHF uses a fair whack when transmitting, so check the unit or the user manual to see what you should have. If it isnt this then you'll need to look for a short or fault in the wiring, if all of this is OK, then it's probably inside the unit (we have just had this with a brand new ICOM) in this case, again back to the manufacturer. Rob
I know with my Icom you can replace the MMSI but only once - after that you can take it to an Icom dealer - isn't there one called Green something who sponsors the club? mw
the alarm thats going off might be telling you you have no signal from gps if it is you cant stop it you just have to keep resetting it with. The mmsi number is nomaly transferable to you if you have a liecence mark w
