Hi,

Has anybody in the club has ever tried one these? I guessing, no but thought I would try my luck anyway.

I managed to find these links:

http://www.worldseafishing.com/boating/boa...day_fisher.html (write up by Mike Thrussell)

http://www.dragoboats.co.uk/sunday.shtml

Although not the prettiest in looks, from what I can make of the write up she seems a fairly descent boat. I'm looking for something I can fish on but also enjoy with the family (2 & 4 years old).

Very good hull if given the chance to perform (not with a 25!).

One of the ugliest boats ever to have been produced, but the hull is good.

With that engine it has been built for the river or for very VERY gentle estuary / harbour work.

Anything on open water and it will be painful and rather juicy to run.

Saw one being recovered at Wick on a Friday afternoon recently.

The crew (recovering with a Discovery 3) seemed to be fairly serious anglers and had said that they'd been fairly far out in it on that day... but not with a 25hp!

Simon,

Charlie A will be able to advise that having an under powered boat is certainly useable but with the right motor turns in to a completely different beast! Yahooo!!!!!!

I think Gordon H would agree too.

Just ensure you factor in the cost of a bigger engine - perhaps speak to some dealers and see what the trade-in would be for that motor.

Thanks Rob, I'll do some ringing around.

Any idea where I can get a cheap trailer? I mean good value. I don't want to spend much if I'm going to use a mooring.

Hiya Simon,

It's one of the boats I looked at befor buying Small Fry.

Very nice Boat. I think the sell them with 80 HP motor.

As others have said - nowt wrong with the boat.

Ive had boats before with inappropreate engines.....you just pay extra later - sounds obvious I know, but a cheap package isnt so when youve forgettern the initial purchase cost and need to start purchasing other kit. Esp if you need a trailer too.

Similar to the Selva Fast Fisher range Tom, I think.

The Drago seems a far better build and finish though.

( And Cheap ) so make sure you talk the price down .

As the others have said " the engine is far too small on this one "

If it's from a dealer, he may have listed it with this engine to sell as a cheap package.

Tell him you want a propper engine - at the right price.

Unfortunately it's a private seller Jim, so no option to get the engine upgrade. I'll try to find out what I can get for the 25hp (30 hours on) it as a px against a 50hp. Does anybody have any suggestion on places to try?

Thanks again

If it were me I would wait. As someone else said here, it is a buyers market, so why buy something that doesn't fulfull what you need ( and with a 25HP engine it won't ).

When I bought Neo it has a "dodgy" engine which never really went quite right - expensive to service and barely got the boat on the plane ( and that was a 30HP engine ).

Best thing I did was to trade in and get a new engine but certainly is not the cheapest way to do it. I have now replaced engine and trailer and could have bought a new package for much less.

So I would wait and get nearer to what is required.

Always be carefull and don't go into a feeding frenzy " I want it NOW "

PS if you wanna come out with Me, Steve and Ferret ( Bill ) on Sunday's Lure Species ( depending on weather ) we can squeeze you in.

It's hard - but waiting and biding your time is the best advice.

Having bought 5 boats now - every time waiting for the 'right' one has paid off - you'll know when the right package comes up. If you decide the Drago is for you - keep an eye out, another will come up.

If you are having doubts about keeping the boat longer term, and have already sussed the engine is too small, it may be difficult to shift onto another buyer, when you decide to upgrade to another boat. dry.gif
