Gas Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Can anyone help me please? When I switch on my Navman 700 I get a message input position no GPS. I can transmit and receive but if I leave the radio on it rings like a phone. I have checked the aerial all good any ideals please? Craig Quote
Maverick Martin Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Craig It sounds like you have not conected you gps or plotter to the radio. This meens it is not receiving your position and therfore cannot operate as a dsc radio should Martin Quote
Rob Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 "VHS" Maybe that is where you are going wrong???!!! I thougt theWest Country was behind the times when I lived there at Uni!!!! Quote
alun j. Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 ... and I always thought Betamax was a better format !! ..and preferred the smaller casettes!! Quote
djredrupp Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 press "esc" and it will stop the ringing we get that every time we turn the plotter off when anchored up! loud and annoying, but I guess its there for a purpose. Also I THINK there is a way (through the menus) of stopping the VHF set looking for a gps input, thus stopping the ringing! Hope this helps! Dan Quote
Maverick Martin Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Much better to give the set a position that way in the event of an emergency and when you push the dsc button it will not only send a distress signal but will also give your position to the recipients Martin Quote
charlieannear Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 I'm pretty sure Dorset is Westcountry too... I've got a Navman radio too. Have you not got yours wired up with your GPS? It's a DSC radio, so it's expecting a signal from the GPS. The ringing... I need to find out what that means too! Quote
fisherman1055 Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Connect the GPS to the radio and leave both on when you park otherwise radio will ring again and again and again!!! much safer as only needs one button to push if you get into danger Tony Quote
Jim Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Yeah and make sure you have a spare battery if you're gonna leave it all switched on whilst hauling up the " Big uns " Jim Quote
Gas Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 Radio is wired to the GPS and has been working for some 8mths I first got the message input position on the way to the family day and I Quote
djredrupp Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Gas, ensure that the GPS unit is set to output throught the NMEA interface, as some do not output automatically! Charlieannear, the ringing means there is no GPS input! press ESC on the VFH unit to stop the ringing, but it doesnt solve the problem!!! Dan Quote
Gas Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 (edited) At last well done Dan will try over the weeend. Just got the book out and I think your are right on the mark as I reset to default which takes the unit to off NMEA. Big thank you Dan. Edited August 26, 2009 by Gas Quote
