Updating your chart plotter

I have just downloaded the latest updates for my Garmin 550s chartplotter and was wondering how many people actually do this.

 

It a year since i picked my boat up from Warrior and kitted it out. In that time i have downloaded 4 updated to the plotters software. Ive never really noticed and differences in the first 3 and wondered if it was worth while.

 

However todays update has some obvious changes. New screens quicker navigation through data and the facility to take screen shots, definateley looks better.

 

I must admit to being a bit nervous updating the software incase it mess it up.

 

Does anyone else update their software. Garmins update system is so easy download to pc copy to SD card put into plotter and follow instructions

Yes my Lowrance was the same.

I didn't do it though, I had the area rep here and he did it for me.

It looked easy enough though.

Probably needs doing again now ( 1 1/2 years later )

Just a thought, some of the GPS receivers (white mushroom things!) need updating too such as the older Lowrance LGC-2000.

How useful \ necessary is this ??? My card reader on computer is all jammed up { dust and dirt ??} so won't work! My little Garmin seems to work OK....so would fiddling help ??
