Paul J
Hi all, Im having problems with my Gps all of a sudden I've a Lowarance 3300c and i've started getting "alarm updating" then "Gps module not responding" messages. I suspect it's in the wiring loom rather than the kit itself but i need to test it. does anyone have a Lowrance setup that i can plug into who's local to Moordown? Mostly i need to verify the GPs module works OK. Failing that i guess i'll need to get over to Poole which is always difficult mid week - was it MES that fix these things? cheers PJ
Brian
Paul I think you need "The Service Centre in Wareham". here If need be, I could drop it in during the day for you, if you can get it to me one evening. britboard
PJ, the Lowrance distibutors are only in Romsey under the Navico banner now. NAVICO UK LTD PREMIER WAY ABBEY PARK ROMSEY HAMPSHIRE SO51 9DH +44 01794 510010 sales.uk@navico.com Are you on a red or a blue network and is the gps module the only item on your network? My guess is that you are on LGC2000 gps module with a blue connector, there were a lot of issues with that module have a look for a label on the bottom of it and see if it has the ESD protected sticker. Other things to try is to check the power to the NMEA network is present, find the "y" lead and look for the cable containing a red, black and shield and make sure you have got your 12v between the red/black. Also look at the 60ohm resistor end cap for corrosion and connection. There was also a software update for the LGC2000 that might be worth a try. My guess would be that the module has gone tech on you, if you have to replace it get an LGC3000 or 4000 and a lead to connect to your blue network, as the newer modules are built to survive better when flooded with radar signals, which is what caused the older ones to blow. http://www.lowrance.com/upload/Lowrance/Do...-021_020604.pdf If you need any help give me a shout!!! Paul J
Thanks for the offers of help gents Simon, Some quality info there mate cheers Turned out to be a faulty lgc 2000 gps module, fortunately Rob F had an extra one that he was about to sell so i nabbed it off him at a very reaonable price so job done I've no idea why it suddenly failed but the radar theory sounds possible cheers PJ
Mike Fox
The radar signals idea is probably quite close to the truth. We were going into Dielette on the Normandy coast for the first time a few years ago, keeping the regulation half mile off the nuclear power station there. A French warship appeared out of nowhere coming to investigate us, and our fixed Garmin GPS was knocked out. Around 15 years ago, I was off Start Point at around 5 a.m. when two large naval vessels of different nationalities were playing a game of nautical "chicken"...bow to bow, about 20' apart, with the least skillful being blown downwind. The old Decca system I had then was wiped. Have since heard of others with problems near "active" naval vessels. Mike
