A tale of friendship that defeats evil
Neal and 3 others reacted to iansimpson63 for a topic
We have been living in troubled times full of uncertainty and sad news across the UK and the world in general. Family and friends seperated by restrictions and normality gone out the window. I received a PM on Friday from a dear friend who asked if I would like to attend a fishing sorte, socially distanced, out to the Dolphin Banks to target Channel Whiting. My heart leapt with joy, firstly to be afloat, but mostly to see a man that I have not seen for over seven months, bountiful glee eminated from every pore. I barely slept the night before, so high was my anticipation, a short dog walk, bacon sandwhich, cup of tea and a welcome emptying of the bowels saw me prepared to meet on the boat at 07:30. No hugging or kissing at our long awaited reunion, damn that Coivid, but the man love was evident to the mullet and guppies below the pontoons. We motored out to the Banks and I foolishly mentioned to my Captain that I had only caught 3 dogfish throughout the previous 10 or so trips out this year, what a silly goose I proved to be. Charlie caught a steady string of Conger, I landed a more productive supply of LSD. A small Bass, Gurnard, Small Eyed Ray and 2 Whiting to Charlie and a large Blonde which I released 15 yards from the boat, to me. Chilli cod stew then move to another location. More LSD and another Whiting, move again, Oh the joy of being afloat. Final stop near the cruise ships and we hit lots of small eyes, gurnard and some larger mackerel. I tried to stow 2 mackerel to take home but the skipper ordered me to use 1 as bait (the children have suffered mild mal-nutrition during this pandemeic and will have to graze on the village green once more). Radio chatter with Ben, Mal and Jerry aboard their boats, on our mini cruise made the day even better and my cup was overflowing with joy. Thank you Charlie once again and tight lines to one and all. PS. Cerrie has instucted me to inform you that I have only had 1 beer, she really doesn't understand the full joy of mateship and being out with a discharged seaman (ex RN)4 points -

So a quick update on this. I collected my refurbished turbo this morning... At a cost of ยฃ680+ vat, itโs not a bad job I reckon.. Four hours later and Iโm at the point where all the mechanical bits are connected in what I hope are all the right places. Still have to fill the coolant back up and run up the engine which I will do tomorrow morning ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points -

In the end yes, never made the sea trial though as ran out of time and had to take Leo to footie. Took 4 attempts to get alignment 100% as small puffs of smoke were evident. Forth attempt saw the utilisation of a bit of temp gum to help seal the fitting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

9th Birthday Treat
Neal reacted to Kingfisher 126 for a topic
We asked Blake what he wanted to do as a treat for his 9th Birthday, he wanted to take his friend Harvey out fishing for the day. So today was the day. Popped into Co-op for supplies for them, then Andy for bait and on the boat for a late start of ten oโclock. Safety talk and a few rules for the day before we left and a nice steady motor through the harbour, first time on a boat for Harvey so expecting anything may happen. Not the best of weather but at least it was dry. Looking good so off to the Swash for a drift. New crew taking over. Not a touch after a few drifts and had enough of the continuous wash off passing boats so decided a change of area. Off to the Beach. First drift and Blakes rod bends over, thinking itโs hung in until I felt it take more line than the drift speed, the guys got this little beauty to the boat. Biggest fish Harvey had ever seen so he was really impressed. His tea sorted out. A few drifts with wrasse and pout, no flatties and as the wind steadily increased we called it a day around 3pm. A couple a worn out happy lads after their beef burger lunch at sea. Harvey handled the rock and rolling all day and got his sea legs no problem. They are hatching a plan for their next trip. ๐ A great treat for a cod to show up and a lovely bonus for them.1 point -
Also made up some lines for her a couple of weeks back. First time trying an eye splice. Pretty pleased with how they turned out. Sent from my SM-G975F using Tapatalk1 point
