Was minding my own business on Saturday, Busy painting Hall, Stairs, Landing, Lounge. The aim was work til 1:00 ish then same thing on Sunday. Had a text from Martin to see if I was up for a trip? ( silly question) ! So we carried on all day with decorating. We were both as stiff as planks by tea time. Up early Sunday and left in time for the 08:30 bridge. Headed out on a fresh but beautiful morning. Went over just past the piers to try for a few. Martin was soon into a fish and our expectations were raised! A small Gurnard brought onboard. Then a few very small plaice. We were being blown offshore and moved along the coast as we came back in for another drift. Same thing again on the plaice. Very small. We tried all the way back to Poole with the same results . . . . . very small. I had one of a better size but not quite a keeper. Later in the day Martin Did have a keeper and gave it to me. It was a bitterly cold breeze out there and only the one keeper but it was just SO GOOD to be out again. We came back in the Harbour and tied up in front of Brownsea Castle and it was like a different day! Calm water, Sunshine and no wind. Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuvly. No fish there though Just a lovely cuppa. As always Martin, I thank you for the invite. I had a really great day. The lack of fish doesn't matter ( I'm used to that anyway ) It was just great to be out again. Jim

Jim and I will be out tomorrow on Madness. Only going along the front looking for plaice and scratching around. Will be listening on ch6

Love pen rods too but prefer shimano I got a nice penn uptider .

Strange weather when we went Plaice fishing on Madness. Quite a few squalls about but none of them hit us.

It weighed 15 or 16 lbs. That was a few years ago when there were more big ones about. We will be taking an extra 25 litres for Hooky plus a manual transfer pump. Sorry Rag Doll cannot make this one, perhaps next time.

Mines same engine as yours, it’s never going to be the same . I have been working out my consumption, 1.5lts per mile Taking 100 litres, . Very happy to have some buddy’s on this trip, it’s the sensible thing it’s been a while but 🤣

Sounds like if you use half a tank (50 litres) getting there, you have half a tank left for drifts and then 70 for the way home, just run efficiently as you can and don't blast back up the drift as the tide can be pushing hard. Just stick to you usual cruising revs. As already said, there is Portland marina close by for a top up. Using the plotter to reset at the start of a trip, and then calculating the fuel used is something you should know. Then if you do 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 2 litres per mile it's a quick sum and you know what is expected. Just remember, if weather changes you can use 30/50% more fuel if it gets really rough. Sunday I think we did 70/80 miles in total. R
