  1. I have watched 100's of shore fishermen in France,do-ing exactly what Sam has said.If they can catch it on a hook, they take it home in a bucket, regardless of species or size!. One gets the distinct feeling that,to them its like picking mushrooms..they are gathering food and in all probability, dont know or care about conservation;size limits or anything related. With the exception of the odd kiddy in this country, taking his fish home to show Mum,I have not seen this type of fishing attitude here...You believe what you see!!...jack
  2. Nice one jimbob........not even the slightest bit envious.!.....[bloody liar ] ..jack
  3. I suppose it will be wrasse and Pout next,..One wonders at the mentality of these "get rich at any cost"operators....jack
  4. THE French fishermen will blockade the ports, and dump thier catches[probably undersized Bass] on thier town hall doorsteps and thier Government won't pay it anyway....jack

    Where?

Mike,If you could just put things off for a little while I am bringing out my "how to do---"SEA FISHING" book. It will be very informative and crammed with wonderful colour illustrations...Including tips on "where to find them;how to catch them;fish identification by memory;anchor use and retrieval;fish finder adjustment",and many other useful topics.perhaps I could put you down for a copy?....jack
  6. Thank you Duncan, you have illustrated the only fish I have managed to catch, although I suspect that IT caught me....jack

Hi Kaptin Kod.Simple answer to your problem. Stop mucking about in all that fast dirty water, and move to the Poole area. Our local sea area authority send men in boats out each night to clear all nasty rubbish etc.and rinse out the seawater to leave it sparkling blue.! So that we are not faced with any "unpleasantness",when we sally forth on each rain-free,sun filled morning.Beginning next year there are even plans afoot to employ "fish hooker-oners" to swim about in Poole bay ,just on the look-out for club boats,so that none of us return catchless.I myself am really looking foreward to this time.[always supposing I am not locked up by then.] cheers and good luck. .jack
  8. Hi Speciman, good report of your heroic deeds, and just to think I was having a quiet moan about MY sundays activities. Still as they say in these parts " they'r not ALL locked up" ,Although in the case of you and zzipy it can only be a matter of time !!...cheers and good luck on your next Tope attack ..jack
  9. sulk sulk sulk sulk sulk sulk sulk sulk sulk sulk ...............nice one, that man !jack

  11. Well done Kam. how about whilst you draw Coddy a picture of your rig,you draw me a picture of your fish !! I will take it with me next trip as a guide !! ...jack
  12. well done on your maiden voyage Will.and congrats on even a modest catch,"some fish",beats the hell out of "no fish..."jack. Paul.. I have a spanish 7' rod, rated on the shaft as 3-30 lb. it too looks like a toy rod,as does the 6'. 5-50lb one from the same company. they look so fragile that to be honest I havent dared to try them for anything larger than flounder etc. as they are ideal proportions for estuary use in my 12' Zodiac. In view of your use of a "toy" rod, do you think I dare give one a serious try ?..jack
  13. [ 1 ] Thanks for the compliment Bob. perhaps I should stick to reporting and leave the fish catching to others.!!. [ 2 ].John, we spent some time earlier in the day about 800yds off the corner of Ballard down,at the Swanage bay end,if the boat you saw was idly swinging around in the slight breeze, with no tide[accompanied by curses from "snagged in" fisherfolk] That was us. Congrats. on Dom's Tope. even to see one swim off would be a nice experience !..jack
  14. Returning from our "boating trip "on Sunday heading for the 16,30 bridge lift, ,joined the 30 or so boats approaching the final channel bouy as you turn right toward Poole quayside.Fellow on large yacht with friends and family aboard ahead of me,who is also surrounded by power boats etc, jumps to his feet and waves frantically for me to keep back from him.I was at least 30 yds from him but I realised the idiot was streaming an oange handline presumably with a spinner attached ! Perhaps better if he had been drinking,he would'nt have bothered fishing....jack
  15. Out to sea by 09.45. Cracking weather, already hot.Sea state ,only slightly ruffled. Not much tide running, toddled down to the alledged Ray mark.Anchored up and sat with wonderful fresh makerel baits for 1 ,1/2 hrs waiting for some tide movement and quietly cooking. Gave up and moved west to an alledged Tope area where there was some tide. plenty ground baiting and again fresh makeral baits. Tide fell away to nothing after an hour or so, so moved out to an alledged conger mark.fried quietly in the tropical sunshine for 2hrs or so .feathered at anchor as schoal after shoal passed beneath the boat.caught what we could eat and waited for the bites, changing baits every 15mins or so...Returned the 8 ml.in time for the 16.30 bridge.Fantastic day out, burned to a crisp ! Our catch report is.....confidential due to our policy of absolute conservation and secrecy..You think we Blanked again ?. Of course not,the Pout I caught was a most attractive chappie !.What a strange day for tides, one hour of good strong flow,in the whole 7 hr period...We must get marks for effort.jack
  16. Andy and I are venturing to sea on Sunday [Won't say the "fishing" word].We shall be heading west ,specificly seeking anything that has fins and swims. The weather and tides seem favourable;good boat;good bait, lots of nice newly replaced gear. How can we fail to catch ?. Answer on this site on monday !! Keep you "ears on" if you are out there. {pal o mine ]..tight lines all round..jack
  17. Martin,I was'nt intending to apply pressure,I realize things are in hand re penants, I just happened to find this on the net,and as my grandson had just shown me how to do it,I thought I would be "flash" and have a little practice at transferring things from one place to another,I have no-where else to try it [aint it bloody sad ]..Jack

    Weed.....

God forbid ,that your stern bearing/stuffing box, should be affected.!!! It sounds excrutiatingly painful...And one wonders if there is a cure for such an affliction. If not could we perhaps subscribe to a "support group". We could have a little lapel ribbon and even a wrist band to raise funds, for counselling etc jack

    New To Fishing

A young guy from Missouri moves to Florida and goes to a big "everything under the roof department store" looking for a job. The manager says " Do you have any sales experience?" The kid says " Yeah, I was a salesman back home in Missouri." Well, the boss liked the kid so he gave him the job. "You start tomorrow, I"ll come down after we close and see how you did." His first day on the job was rough but he got through it. After the store was locked up, the boss came down, "How many sales did you make today?" The kid says "one." The boss says, "just one?!!, Our sales people average 20 to 30 sales a day! How much was the sale for? The kid says " $101,237.64" The boss says, "$101,237.64? WHAT THE HELL DID YOU SELL?" Kid says, " First I sold him a small fish hook, Then I sold him a medium fish hook, Then I sold him a larger fish hook, Then I sold him a new fishing rod, Then I asked him where he was going fishing and he said down at the coast, so I told him he was gonna need a boat, so we went down to the boat department and I sold him that twin engine Chris Craft. Then he said he didn't think his Honda Civic would pull it, so I took him down to the automotive department and sold him that 4x4 expedition." The boss said, " A guy came in here to buy a fish hook and you sold him a BOAT AND A TRUCK??" The kid says, " No, he came in here to buy a box of tampons for his wife and I said, well, your weekend's shot, you might as well go fishing!!!" Jack | |

    Fishing Day Out.

I am delighted to say that my approach is that of No.4 in the tale.Unfortunately in my case this results in many lost fishing days. When do they become too old,or must I find another angle.?.....jack...[with broad self satisfied smile on his face]
