" When the wind is in the East, the fish bite least " Or do they ?? How do'es the East wind affect fishing in club waters, other than the obvious fact that sea conditions are likely to be lumpier ? Personally I have never found it to make much difference, but then everyone knows my fish catching reputation, regardless of wind direction. Comment or Observation invited..... jack [about the wind, not my fishing ]

I always wondered where the term "porking" came from.now I know... jack

Thank Goodness this has all been clarified. Andy and I have not slept a wink for 3 or 4 nights worrying what to do about our cod catches !! P.S.What do'es a living Cod look like ?.... jack

A great day all round.Even jack and Andy had "keeper" fish.I don't know who was the more surprised..Fishermen or wives.!

Hi Large fries. I like the sound of your set-up fine. we have a bathing platform, I love the idea of an intake low down on the barrel, I didnt think the pump would have enough oomph to overcome the pressure of a tank full of water. There would only be a small lift and the intake pipe length would be minimal.and the overflow could just spill away. and the final plus is that you lose no inside fishing space. The only draw back for me is venturing out to get baits, but I have a much younger crew-man for that job.!! Thanks again,it's all inspirational stuff.!...jack

Is it too early to ask whomsoever is in charge of the weather on the club committee,to get something decent sorted for next week-end before the season runs out on us ? ever hopeful..jack

My maths were never my strongest point [i wonder sometimes what it was ] BUT....Won't 60 ltrs of water weigh over 1.cwt.?. How do you trailed boat men cope with that weight sloshing about at the stern of your vessel, and isn't there a safety issue ?...just wondered. jack

So much for technology,Wheres my ruddy pen.. jack

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARTIN.Best wishes from Andy and myself..jack

Thanks so far. We do have a really powerful deck wash outlet ,but Andrew won't let me use it as a bait tank supply,as he worries that it could knock the battery out [although we have 2 built in ] . He say's we would look silly trying to push the boat if it won't re-start at sea. I take on board your comments re. tank shape. The tap on the outlet pipe should have been obvious. I have plenty of time before tank is required,so am open to all comment. Thanks again...jack

Yes I know the subject has been done to death before, but I intend to produce such a tank [even though we have one built in,Total crap ] I have "searched" out all the previous tips, but am left with a few questions. I intend to use a 60ltr rectangular plastic tank with a hinged double ended lid [already owned].I thought to install a collar all round the inside lip, made from narrow bore plastic tubing, with knuckle corners etc, drilled at intervals to produce a spray onto the water surface. Then it should not matter that my tank has corners, nor which way the water flows.I like the idea of the waste/overflow outlet at the botton edge, but whats to stop all the water running out ?. Andy won't let me cut any holes in the boat,so we need to put the pump overboard.its a Rule 360.will it have enough guts to pump up from below water, over the freeboard and into the tank.the lift alone would be 4/5 foot ? The waste is no problem as there are outlet drains under the floor and out through the stern.[we cant use these for intake as they have flaps built into them ]. Any tips or advice on this set-up would be welcome. This will give me something to do whilst waiting to get back to hauling in fish jack

Same thread--Different view.Drove my new campervan to just outside Bath.stopped for fuel,it would not re-start.called out Green flag.Totally dead battery! It had just collapsed for no reason.I fitted a new one there, took the old one home [dead suspicious me ] and re-chargeed it ,but it would not take charge at all. The van ran perfectly well with the replacement battery for several years after with no electrical problems so it was'nt anything internal....Perhaps it's me thats faulty. jack

On a lighter note,my Pc [bloody Vista ] is playing up and I am having to use my daughters discarded lap top Steam driven;treacle coated system, and missing several keys, making it interesting typing some words,as alternatives have to be found. also many of the symbals are reversed or missing [no pound sign at all ]It certainly makes for more challenging posting.....jack

Hi Duncan,Andy and I only use the minimum required break-out yie. For the tide or ground conditions and usually 1 tie does the job.But as all will agree Sundays tides were a bit exceptional, and we have a heavy deep keel boat.We could have done a bit of water ski-ing whilst anchored up at one stage. In our earlier club times we were unable to recover several anchors due I am sure to excess zeal on the break-out scene. Its much cheaper to re-anchor than to keep parting with 150+ quid a go.cheers Jack
-
Fishy picture attached. We too, broke out in the tide twice. We normally use just one heavy duty cable tie as a break out.but on Sun we ended up useing 3.. jack

Was'nt Sunday a great day to be afloat.Thrown all over the place in the morning! Sun bathing in the afternoon.and the fishing mark just like a club outing.Despite being dissapointed on our oversise squid hooks { cod hopefull ]. A change to squid strip on smaller hooks in the afternoon saw us into whiting of 1+ lb.But my super-bonus was a Blonde Ray,estimated by myself and 2 crew to be in excess of 20lb.this on a 2/0 hook and a finger sized strip of squid. You just never know .do you ?. I wonder how it was, that after a frantic search on board we discovered that my lovely electronic scales, purchased seasons ago in anticipation had flat battery and an attractive layer of rust.and at the crunch moment were useless.Perhaps they were sulking through lack of use.I shall service them ready for action now. Thanks for the chat Charlie, and thanks Terry for some timely advice on Sat. ........fishcatcher.jack
