Hi all ...... Just trying to find a supply of these little blighters.... A4 Stainless steel M6 x4mm grub screws [or set screws] ......I have tried locally at a couple of "fastener" places .....one on Nuffield and one at Wallisdown as well as at a couple of chandlers..... Have managed to get A2 M6 x 6mm ... but not 4mm I have also found some A2 M6 x 5mm online but postage was silly money !! They are the fix for my deck hand rail on Alice [ some have gone missing] so don't really want longer than necessary ....and cutting them down is not what i really want to do either if it can be avoided. Any one know of a possible local supply ??? Any ideas of an alternative fix?? ...problem is the thread length .....only 4 mm Dave

And a brief closing note from me is.... All I have seen written here is about conservation and sustainability of our fish stock ... I think all in the club want to be a part of that...... the difference in opinion is about who is responsible for the decline, why it happened and what we can do to rectify the problem....... The issue for me is the word FAIRLY ..... I am happy to be a part of what-ever is the course of action to be taken as long as it is fair to all........I only take enough for my needs now anyway... What I want [and I believe most of you appear to want] is the information used for the decisions and policies to be balanced and fair. There is no argument about that .....just debate Lets hope weather improves so we can go get a fish or two !! Dave

With all due respect gents.....IMHO....the Salmon and Sea trout issue is small [ no less important I stress ] compared with the Universal issue of sea fishing around our coastline. [ just my opinion you understand... I may be wrong.] The target species are so specific and the limited access to large numbers makes their case for licence and bag limits much more do-able. There may be some issues for commercials out of some northern and Scottish ports but in general the recreational angler has limited and often controlled access..... This is a very interesting and emotive thread similar to another ongoing thread today!! Dave

And so it goes on........ I want conservation and I want sustainability in the fishing industry ..... and I agree with a lot of the "YES for supplying info" that have been put in this thread....... BUT it goes back to HOW the information is collated and what is the MAIN agenda and how many underlying agendas are there........WHAT will be done with the info. Will the commercial fishermen submit their info with the same gusto .....what will be the "balance" of where the info comes from ?? At the end of the day .....Authorities need to be seen to be doing something about this issue .... as with the "eel debate " mentioned by Neal...... POLICING any policy will be very expensive and the easiest way to ensure some success is to BAN it all...... I personally love to eat some fish I catch ..... but the cost per fish I catch is way above what I will pay for them at Greenslades ... so I have no probs with catch and release........but what if they BAN all recreational fishing in large areas and continue to allow commercial skippers bag limits that are un-enforceable !!! If they want to impose a bag limit licence ...... what will be the criteria.....a daily bag... a yearly bag....how will it be policed and what will the penalties be ?? What if you deep hook a fish after you have taken your bag limit ???... Do you return it dead or dying.... could this lead to a discard policy being adopted to stay below you bag limit ...... what will be the criteria for the bag....all fish ... or just big name fish such as Bass or Bream, Cod or Pollock Penalties are the next big issue ... what form will they take and how will they be implemented ....... Oh my word.....!! Interesting thread this one .....Should the fishing industry be "SELF POLICING" or will this lead to "mafia" type tactics prevailing.... SO many issues are shrouded in this one simple request ...... Dave

Hey ho.....for the debate .....I have to say I agree with Martin........ Using tax payers money to do a survey of non-commercials so that " based on the information received" they can take measures to tick some boxes to justify their salaries and achieve very little ...... giving them a stick to beat us with IMHO A bit like the other thread about bag limits....... what is the criteria for agreement.... the principal is good but the detail of how it will be applied to commercials and leisure anglers is crucial to the effectiveness .... just saying yes in principle sets the precedence for a possible slap in the face when details get sorted and then .... .... " What will be achieved, how will it be policed and where is the money coming from to sustain the policy"....is the next big debate and salary spinner !! Cynical .... yes !!! Realistic view having been in the "system" for years ..... I think so !! Watch and learn !! Absolutely no wine, beer or stimulant additives required for that !! Dave
-
Rob ...... How much of said equipment required is available or do I have to sort it out ??? I was thinking more of the pens and "change".....I am sure I can find a bucket or two for the rest !! Dave
-
Graham.....I read it somewhere else and it amazed me too ...... I mean .....you wouldn't go into a butchers and not expect to see raw meat .. what is in their heads ?? Like all the townies who invade the country side and start laying down the law to people who have BEEN caring for the countryside for hundreds of years.... OH dear .....there I go !! Dave
