Hey Simon..... Welcome ... and you are in the right place for advice and info about local fishing ... come on up to one of our club meetings and meet the lads !! Well old fishermen always smell that way !! Dave

Belated best wishes from me Dan ....hope the day was a complete blur due to the intake of alcoholic bevs and such a good time.. Dave

Same with the Bass MLS ... but realistically I think that there should .. .... be a MIN and a MAX size for Bass ( we need the smaller fish growing on to become 10 lb plus) ....moderation exercised in the retention of any multiple catches Problem, as with all these ideas, is policing / enforcing the rules ... Thankfully our Club seems to self police .... wish the rest of the fishing world was the same Just my opinion .... Dave
-
Cracking boat Tomo .... hope she is all you dreamed she would be !!! Wish you many safe and happy hours aboard .... and plenty good fish on her decks.... When is your first fishing trip ? ... I wonder what will be the first fish aboard !!! I feel a raffle/sweepstake coming on !! Keep us posted. Dave

Couple of years in the cutting and filling with all the necessary cable connections, maintenance stations and terminals .... EASY PEASY !!! minimal disruption and public pain ! ROB . any chance of a complete grid conversion, now that you've got the hang of it ?? Pretty please !! Dave

Will be interesting to know if they have considered the long term effects on things local and not so local... this will be a "massive" structure and in time MAY affect.. Noise levels at sea and on shore, long shore drift and local coast ecology, fish migration, shipping emergencies, ferry routes, flight paths, visual impact ... There must be visual and audible requirements for extreme weather that may be intrusive too !! We have some biggish tides in the channel and I think that the proximity of columns may have a "Ferrybridge Cooling Tower" effect in certain conditions which may effect the tidal flows upstream and downstream .... If this has been planned with the correct research and modelling used during design then all this may have been minimised to acceptable levels .. but what is "acceptable"? There may be some great positives too ... fish havens, weather "breaks", cheaper electricity and some local industrial and commercial gain.. Interesting world ain't it ?? Dave

Excellent fishing .... only takes one fish to make a great day....and you got two !! Well done for keeping at it .... good call on using the maccy too !! Dave

I went through the same process last year.... I eventually phoned the licensing dept at OFCOM and a very helpful lady put it all right for me..... MMSI was already in the radio She took the previous owners name and did a search which revealed all details ... MMSI no, call sign, address of registered owner and licence holder, Boat name and description .... When I filled in my licence form it asked if there is an original MMSI number or do you need to generate one ... Easy once the lady assisted..... pain if you do it on ur own..... [ have to say the first person I spoke to at Ofcom was not helpful at all...try, try,try again ] Good luck Dave

Apparently one Cormorant needs a minimum of 1lb of fish per day to live .... in two recorded roosts not far from the Avon at Ibsley there are over a hundred of these birds .... that is a lot of fish going down their throats.....Not sustainable !! When the eel were on the beaches there was also a lot of culling going on ... apparently there was a bounty for Cormorant beak. I am all for balance, conservation, retaining species etc etc .... we as the dominant race will continue to interfere with the balance ..... problems occur when we do extreme things for short term impact ... steady culling to control the numbers is better than allowing uncontrolled population explosions that are not sustainable.... UK has the Eastern European Cormorant moving in now !!! Being discussed on another site too... Quote.... The public would rather the cormorants, herons, egrets, grebes, mergansers, etc. eat them than the anglers themselves, or anglers just fishing for them for sport and pleasure! Basically, as a suggestion, in future stuff I think we need to include higher impact pics that that tells the real story as below. The impact on our lakes, rivers and the riverine food chain is probably 5-10 fold more than quoted on fish weight taken per year, in my opinion. See pic links below! Interestingly, I also found this old quote from the RSPB that tells a different story also: Sophie Atherton, from the RSPB, said cormorants can swallow creatures up to two-and-a-half feet long. She said: "Cormorants have been recorded to eat 86 different species of fish from tiny fry to two-and-a-half-foot-long conger eels.

Andy .... If that was directed at me I have always chickened out on pushing her right out because of swell or she seems to take off !! ..... but I have had it up around 5800 revs ..... typically ..... recorded the other Sunday... good conditions .....solo with just over half a tank and little other load ( ie little in way of tackle etc ) .... 3000 ...9 knots 3800....16 4000....18 4500....23 5500....27 fuel consumption ... not accurate but about the usual litre/nm Have done the 26 + knots with 2 up and tackle though( weight well forward)...again in flatter conditions !!! I do not have trim tabs ....and I am not sure if this would improve drastically with them installed ??? Works for me .... Dave

Debate ....ON !!! Of course this all assumes we can keep the Euro skanky fishermen in their own back yard and living by the same rules !!! SORRY that was not completely PC Yahooooooooooo !! Dave

Why so Duncan .... Lets offset the millions of pounds that will be spent trying to resolve the issue of depleted stocks, policing any system that includes discards/quotas etc, the millions lost if fishing had to stop, and the millions spent on subsidising the fishermen left without an industry..... Why can't we increase the net mesh size and shape to avoid smaller fish and smaller species. Why can't we "land all you catch" and have a total tonnage quota ... Skippers found discarding to serve a 6 month ban ..... Why can't we select the lower grade edible fish for fish cakes, soups and curries and similar foodstuff for the poor and needy... Hospitals, retirement homes etc etc Why can't we use the remainder in livestock feed, pet food, fertilizer and fish pellets for fishing, fish farming and sea bait ( pots and even groundbaits ) If the farmers on land have to diversify to survive .. why not the farmers of the sea ?? Hey Ho ....That should get a lively debate going while the weather is poor and fishing is scratching about !!! Dave

I did a bit of fly fishing yesterday afternoon .... ice was forming on the rings and eyes as I fished and my little puds got sooooooo cold !!! 50d sitting still in a yak in this weather !! best of luck Lofty !! stay safe mate !! Dave

Gordon....... I have the Mercury Vengeance SS prop on mine 48-16986 -16p ...... 16 " pitch .... 13.125" dia ..... revs fine and does 26-28 kn...Two up and over half a tank of fuel ...on a flat sea !! Have a look at the Mercury prop selector here props I played for hours !!! different loading, uses and expectation/economy etc ..... I think if you start going off shore more the pitch went down to 15" and the dia went up to 13.25" Came to the conclusion that for the variety of use and loads that I will use .... the prop I have on is ok !! Call me if you want more of a chat Dave

SHHHHHHH..............UGAR !!! That made me wobble on my chair !!! Weather issues .... wind / temp ..... nightmare !! What was the guy doing with the safety clip ..... just over the end of a stud !! Any one of those galvanised fixings corroded and it was failure...... maintenance on one of those types of structures to allow access alone has got to be an immense cost. ... Dave

Belated best wishes Paul ... Dave
