If the anodes are getting a hammering try using a big ball anode lowered over the side on an earthed wire, it's taken in when using the boat. That should reduce the erosion on the others and save a bit of time and money.

Interesting MPs view, very supportive actually http://fishingnews.co.uk/2016/11/inshore-commercial-bass-fishery-mp-response/ This really annoys me, forget the lobster story, oh look I caught a sturgeon, never had one of those, must be rare, takes it ashore, offered around, no thought for returning it alive. http://fishingnews.co.uk/2016/10/unusual-catches-orange-blue-holy-island-lobster-sturgeon-off-newhaven/

Haha, 800lb Tuna, 50lb boat rod, no chance, that would be Crazy Fred I hooked a big shark off Kenya on a plug, played from a fighting chair for all I was worth for 4 hours, never even saw it, totally knackered myself. That was on something like 50lb gear, we broke the line in the end trying at least to get a sight of it. Skipper said probably a tiger between 500 and 1000lb. The very best of luck Fred, but I suggest you step up the gear.

Tigerfish has one, a Max Power 2hp, it has it's own battery shared with the windlass and I would recommend that, works fine in both directions, seems to be unchanged from new in 2006, I have had no trouble from it at all, has a single propeller. As yours is 40ft with a big keel and the concern is overcoming windage you may need to go for 4hp.

Update and final conclusion, the story after over 3 years use. Ultrasonic Antifouling works well on Tigerfish (a solid hull) when used in in conjunction with a single coat of antifouling. Tigerfish speed loss at end of season 100 to 150 revs, approx 1 to 1.5 knots, fuel consumption does not increase very much over the season (fuel used v distance traveled is noted at every fill up) this year it has gone from 2.15 l/nm to 2.25 l/nm Savings Saves fuel. On my previous boat a Merry Fisher 805 fuel consumption steadily increased over the season until I had an end of summer scrub off; top speed also was markedly down. Amount saved is a function of hours used obviously. 1 coat of antifoul instead of 2, so uses 2.5l instead of 5l No summer scrub off needed. Would I buy it again? Yes I would for another solid hull boat, Tigerfish a Botnia Targa 31 has a solid hull construction. For a sandwich construction eg most if not all of the Jeanneau's I would need to research where to fit and how many to fit as apparently the sandwich hull construction deadens the ultrasonic sound levels somewhat. Note: Ultrasonic modules use about 20w continuous and need to be on during daylight hours at least, a 180w solar panel provides enough power from March to October, but for November to February it struggles so the system is activated less and less. I fitted a voltage control switch so that the battery does not go totally flat and also a light activated switch so that it will only try and come on in daylight hours during the winter months which is the time of day the fouling build up mainly occurs. I'm now on a mooring with mains power so no problem.

Good stuff, looks a very well thought out and executed improvement for retrieval.

I see the carrier is belching out black smoke, very old school engines, yuk.

Aye Nigel, twas a quiet night. As you can see from the photos she had no clue as to it's real function! In another scene the female lead on the program runs up to some sort of local fishing champion and gives him a hug, the man's a hero! Looked bizarre and totally false. There was some quite dangerous looking rock fishing for bream using very long (4m est) thin very bendy rods mated to a fixed spool reel and a float. Some big red bream were caught looked 10lb plus. Boats deliver the guys to the rocks for the day then they are left to it. Ground bait was being used just like lake fishing (not much in the way of tide). Some of the fish were being returned which was nice to see and the programme recommended only taking what you need return others to preserve fishing in the future. That message is an uphill struggle here but it is starting to get through as the consequences of take take take are very evident. There is quite a bit of competition fishing here with various carp species being caught. Seemed to be all using poles. Mostly on small lakes, oxygenators can be seen running. No they wouldn't be buying from british websites, plenty of local sources.

I was surfing the 150 chinese TV channels for something that might be slightly interesting (sport) and found a fishing channel! Now the delivery is somewhat different to Tightlines, no Keith Arthur's here! There was a fair smattering of female anglers on the program some very enthusiastic and all young, nuff said.

Nice one Lofty, now that's real cod fishing well done. Was there much weed about?

At least you have it nailed down Mike and it's not the engine. Back to boiling kettles....
-
The very best of luck Rob. Your probably know already but big swells forecast all weekend. Lloyd has gone down there for the surf! 2m 10 sec period.

Can't compete this year either, also off for warmer climes. I will be near the sea but nothing much worth catching in the pearl river delta, though the locals try. I know there are better places to fish round the world than round here, the Florida keys comes to mind but there a hell of a lot areas that are much worse, just about the whole coastline of China, it was good there once. Oh dear had a bit of a rant, sorry

Nice one Rob, takes me back to rebuilding my bike engines. I bought a bike from Crescent some years back (Suzuki 1100k), good chaps there.

Alun and I had a pretty good day with the bass, we had 14 between us, Alun shading it on the numbers count but with me getting the biggest, most were in the 3 to 4lb range with a few bigger ones, the best went 7lb 3oz, another at 5lb 14oz and third at 5lb 10oz (to Steve, returned). With livelies hard to find and slack water at midday it was straight on the lures. We did pick up a couple of joeys at slack water and had a bass on each of them, all the rest came on lures along with some wrasse with the best at 3lb. I’ve never really targeted wrasse so that was a PB for me. The livewell came into it’s own, the bass being upgraded as we went along with the 3 biggest happily all lined up when we got back to base, the macks we also put in there were rather less happy, sticking to the bass tail ends… What with the splendid weather and catching plenty of the target species it was a really great day.

What is the Raymarine kit Martin? It looks the vintage of my stuff so may be interested.
