  1. They are separate from the steering hoses and as far as I can remember quite short. I don't have the part numbers but cost is £162 and £154.8 (at least it was 2 years ago) for the two. The steering host kit was £183
  2. Though expensive it's a good thing to replace those Volvo hydraulic hoses, I had to do all mine 2 years ago, it seems to be how long they last before expiry (6-7 years). The newer types are made of a harder plastic and look like they will last longer. I assume all the bellows have been done as well. Nice shiny prop - give it a month it will be black. Good safety feature that, not allowing the engine to start when well trimmed up, shame it doesn't tell you why it won't let you start the engine! Caught me out for a while once. Engine Trimming problems, I have a medal for that. Suggested causes (I've had all these): rotted crimps to the trim relays; crimps pushed out of the trim relay block when the trim relay inserted, very hard to spot this problem; failed trim relay (take care if replacing with cheap car ones, the pin are often longer and can push out the crimps also they lack protection from corrosion; 2 wire connector to the trim pump pushed home but does not made contact, hard to spot, apply power direct to the motor connector to test; 3 pin sensor connector does not make contact but otherwise look ok. I am mighty impressed Adam that you can achieve all this inside a year while holding down a job and a family.
  3. Sounds ok, better than before at least the size is 42cm for all. I see it is just for 2015 at the moment but does not start until 1st September. So what happens in 2016....
  4. Nanofil: seems usable but I haven't formed a view that I will switch to it over braid, one of my friends has been using it for around a year and liked it so I am giving it a go. It takes me time and an extended test to make my mind up on line.
  5. Standard gear 30lb whiplash pro - reliable, thin (needs less lead) Heavy gear 50lb whiplash pro next time I fill them, currently on power pro which is fine but a little thicker. I also have one reel with 30lb Nanofil I am checking out. Steve
  6. Totally agree Ian, it is all to easy to blame the EU for everything not right. It is our government that has to do more to protect local waters. Maybe it is me just being out of touch, but what has happened about commercial bass fishing, have new rules been passed on size limits? Steve
  7. That's great Lofty loved it. I mainly use hardback crabs for them fished live. They are not as instant peelers but generally outfish squid.
  8. Good result Mike, well done.
  9. I think applying superglue could be counter productive. The principle seems to be that the braid tightens round the mono as the line pressure is increased stopping it slipping out superglue round the braid knot would stop that. Will need to try.
  10. Thanks for posting. Well that is a new one to me. Looks strong if the mono does not slip out. I will give it a try at home first.

    Bits n bobs

I am sure I will have a use for some of these just can't think of it at the moment.... Thanks

    Salt removal

I've always used tap water with nothing added to flush my dinghy OB, I haven't encountered any issues doing that. I have a tank of it which I change when it looks a bit yucky which is faster with a 2 stroke.

    Anchor Trip

I am not sure I would want to be at anchor knowing a sharp pull and the boat is on the drift. That could come from wake, chop, a change of wind direction. my trip is low diameter rope, knotted. The boat has to be over the anchor and considerable force applied before the rope breaks. I did use to use tyraps and to be fair I never had a them trip while at anchor however I found they would often trip before they needed to on the retrieve I got up to 6 being used thought this is this is getting crazy so tried thin rope. Obviously the knot must not come loose.... I use a double overhand loop.
  14. Happy birthday Charlie
  15. Well that was interesting..... which charter boat?
  16. Nice work Adam Those Volvo trim motor/really holders really are rubbish, if ever there was a case for using stainless sheet or even galvanised that it is, the engine bay is no place for painted mild steel and Volvo must know this. I stripped and repainted mine, they were in a worse state than yours, they get sprayed once a year with fogging oil now. Mind you the trim motor bracket for the Mercruiser I used to have was just as bad, a rusting eyesore.
  17. I enjoyed reading your report Oli. Well done on having a great trip. The banks round Alderney do seem to be fishing consistently well this year.

    Maccy Cam

Good stuff Rob. There is going to be a lot to be learned by using this kit.
  19. Rydlyme is for the raw water side. You redirect the inlet into a bucket of the stuff run the engine until it appears to be coming out the outlet. Stop the engine, make a cup of tea, break out the rods etc. 4 hours later reconnect to the sea water inlet. Run engine, watch some yucky looking stuff exit the outlet, job done.
  20. Think of it as a learning opportunity Mike! Something to reinvigorate the old gray matter. I had an overheating problem on my Volvo' s on WOT rather than strip them down I tried Rydlyme first. You fill up the cooling system with it and wait 4 hours or so. That was nearly 2 years ago now and they have been fine since. It is an easy fix, it does sound however yours had got beyond that. Rydlyme is worth considering on systems that are prone to overheating under stress situations.
  21. We (Tigerfish - Alun, Ian, Clive, Steve) are planning on Sun 10th to Wed 13th. Has been looking good/acceptable for the past 3 days now, I'm almost starting to believe it will happen in spite of the gales as I look outside the window. The tides are reasonably favorable. It would be good for some other members boats to be going as well. Steve
  22. Somewhat a belated Happy Birthday guys.
  23. That's great, thanks Charlie

    Transducer

Micron extra should be fine. I think I saw it as an approved paint over lowrance transducers
  25. I am sure these will do the job but the problem is they are all a bit complicated at the business end which by its very nature is going to get bashed around a bit. I did think about getting one a year or so back for mooring to a ring on a swinging mooring decided in the end I would just manage with a hook and a bit stretching.
