  1. That's still my plan
  2. Well I just had a pretty good day on the water while everyone else is working too. No fishing but rather good scenery!
  3. If the commercial boys are respecting the protection and judging from the big increase in numbers and size of the undulates round here they are for undulates then I am quite hopeful for the 'common' skate round here. Maybe my shark/tarpon gear will be put to a new use.[emoji6]
  4. I don't think common skate require water that deep. Off Ireland they are caught at lower depths. It would be great for them to make some sort of comeback, I think I read somewhere they are protected, did I get that right?
  5. Ok so they work, thats good to know, thanks. I've never caught one that I remember, how do you catch them on the banks?
  6. So pleased it was a good trip after all the effort and no little stress with the weather and all. Great to see the big ones come out and Dave doing a top maiden trip. I'm still planning to go in early July, although I have been told we don't need any more Pollock.... I'm not sure about using weaver fish as bait, is it worth the risk?
  7. Looks the reel deal Dave, I'm sure you will put it to good use.
  8. I hear you Adam . Ok thanks, sounds normal then, I did google it but found nothing, poor choice of search words used I guess. Waste of my time polishing! I assume the 4 blade jobbies will turn at some point as well.
  9. This year I polished up the all the props on the duoprop DPH drive. They are made from I think Nibral (nickel-aluminium-bronze) or something like that, previously they had 'appeared' to have been painted black. I checked the props yesterday, the 3 bladed ones fitted nearest to the leg have gone black while the 4 bladed ones have remained a polished bronze colour. They all appeared to be fairly clean and the props on both legs have changed. So a prop changing colour to black is a new one to me. I'm not sure if I have a got a problem on not, would appreciate your thoughts. Steve
  10. Looks the business Dave Not long to wait now!
  11. I can't do June either but would be up for an early July one.
  12. Geez Nigel, really frustrating. Seems like it is taking forever.
  13. Good plan Dave, you bag up with fish and somebody else gives it a through clean down, neat!
  14. Tigerfish was a bit slower off the mark today kingfisher and alfresco had already caught a load when we showed up. No big pollock for us, but plenty around 8lb, including a couple of triple hookups (all rods in action). We tried a few wrecks new to me and they all produced. No sign of the infamous dirty water. As the afternoon wore on the cod started showing, the best 2 going 15-8 and 15. We had 5 in all. One had a fresh whole launce inside. A great day out, the fish we pretty evenly split between the 3 of us which makes a nice change.
  15. Looking good Dave, some decent size scuppers there! really looks the business. Steve
  16. Yes indeed, . It's a long time since the forecast was this changeable that I can remember.
  17. Yep nasty out there at the moment. If the forecast is right late afternoon it will all start to settle down, a dropping sea is way better than a building sea. Currently mid channel is 3.3ft. If the forecast is correct and it all starts to drop off we are going, leaving around 17:00 otherwise it will be leave tomorrow morning.
  18. Thanks Adam, I think. Current plan is for us is to leave afternoon/late afternoon so basically a travel day.
  19. Malcolm, so how was the fishing round Alderney on your trip?
  20. Thanks guys, we will do our best! I'm also starting to think of not being it too much of a rush tomorrow, getting better as the day moves on but not less than a F4. We will decide tonight I think and then last review in the morning.
  21. There is no need to book the pontoon I understand. It's a 30yard row, we will have a dinghy, I expect others will too, so not too much of a problem. There is a water taxi but not that reliable I'm told. Socialise, erm, i dare say we will have the odd chat and maybe even share some mineral water... Steve
  22. Well guy's, it seems I still have some influence 'upstairs' , this one has been pulled out of the bag. That has turned from ok to go to a pretty good forecast, getting excited now. Just given the Wife the food shopping list, bacon and eggs figure pretty highly and my guilty pleasure, nuts. Turning over the garage I've found a keepnet to overnight the Launce, last used 19nn probably.
  23. Has it got a chart with it?.......
  24. Woke up, checked forecast on xcweather looking ok I think for Guernsey and for a Friday trip over. Maybe we could get lucky this time. Good to meet up last night, I think tonight will be prep night .
  25. Oh, sorry about that Adam, wasting your time so about as much use as a chocolate fire guard. Your description doesn't ring any bells, I guess I just didn't know it.
