The Poole and District Sea Angling Association ( represents 19 local clubs) are hosting an open meeting to discuss the Minimum landing size for Bass on Thursday March 22nd next to Poole Harbour. Nigel Horsman will be presenting the proposal to increase the minimum landing size for Bass to 48cms This is an excellent opportunity for fisherman, anglers and the public to learn and ask questions about the issues relating to this species. Wow great post Mike, it certainly puts a few things into perspective A difficult task prioritising this lot, it's very complex but i'll get the ball rolling with my simplistic view Quick wins you say: 1) MLS 2)Beam trawling restrictions 3)Golden Mile Pair trawling bans would probably have the biggest impact but i dont see it as a quick win unless we can agree it with the french ( some positive rumours on that front at the moment) but from what i can see we cant agree amoungst ourselves very often PJ

Thanks guys, only 13lb but, It was a good scrap on my whiting setup, fortunately it was lip hooked cause i only had a 15lb trace. It put a nice bend in the rod and took line which was fun. Inshore means not quite as far as the needles and close to the dolphin sands PJ

We managed a Cod and a couple of Whiting fishing between two trawlers yesterday. Not too bad considering our noisy destructive neighbours PJ :

Nigel Horsman gave a public talk at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton University, entitled "How to restore bass stocks - and why bother". This is a really comprehensive presentation on Bass which is broken down into 4 parts Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Nigel will be at our club meeting on Thursday to see the Angling trust bit PJ

According to Icom my VFH is not repairable ( intermittant fault = open squelch and loss of backlight and function buttons) so i need a new one. Before i splash the cash on a new one, anyone got one they want rid of? It would need to be a fairly recent model with DSC which can cope with the open boat environment Cheers PJ

Reg, Thanks for your post, good to see you on here, i shall look more into the MCS. RE MLS, dont you think that if the commercials (Nets etc) cant sell watch they catch they will either move to where bigger fish are found or increase the mesh size anyway? No-one wants to work for nothing. Same apples to catch and land policy, they will want to maximise profits so will adjust accordingly without us having to ditate it and complicate the proposal PJ
