happy birthday, Rob john

One Saturday morning he gets up early, dresses quietly, gets his lunch made, puts on his long johns, grabs his dog and goes to the garage to hook up his boat to the car and down to the driveway he goes Coming out of his garage the rain is pouring down: it is like a torrential downpour. There is snow and sleet mixed in with the rain. The wind is blowing at over 50mph. Minutes later he returns to the garage. He comes back into the house. Turns the TV to the weather channel and he finds it is going to be very bad weather all day long, so he puts his boat back in the garage, quietly undresses and slips back into bed. There he cuddles up to his wife's back, now with a different anticipation and whispers, "The weather out there is terrible". To which she sleepily replies, "Yeah, can you believe my stupid husband is out fishing in it?" Another? It was a hot summer's day, and Luke was in the marina fishing and having a few beers aboard his boat, patriotically named the "Fourth of July." He was waiting for his friend, Opie, to arrive so they could go for a cruise. Opie was late, unfortunately, because he had to pick up his wife from her appointment with the obstetrician. Her examinations were cheap because the doctor, a fellow named Juan, was Opie's cousin. Anyway, the appointment went over time, and Opie was late getting to the marina. Luke had been drinking all this time, and was feeling no pain. When he saw Opie finally walking down the pier, he jumped up, staggered to the side of the boat to wave to his friend, and nearly fell in. Opie got there just in time to grab Luke. Thus, it was that OB., Juan's kin, Opie, saved Luke from falling to the dock side of the Fourth.

An old man rocking on his porch sees a young kid and his fishing pole walking down the dirt road. "Where you goin' with that pole?" he calls. "Gonna git me some fish with this here fishing pole!" answers the kid. Sure enough, as the sun is setting the old man sees the kid going home with a bucket of fish. Next day, old man rocking on his porch sees the kid walking down the dirt road with some duck tape. "Where you goin' with that?" he calls. "Gonna git me some ducks with this here tape!" answers the kid. "You can't git no ducks with tape!" hollers the old man. But sure enough, as the sun is setting the old man sees the kid going home with the tape strung out behind him and ducks stuck all over it! Next day, old man rocking on his porch sees the kid walking down the dirt road with some chicken wire. "Where you going with that?" he calls. "Gonna get me some chickens with this wire!" answers the kid. "You can't get no chickens with wire!" hollers the old man. But sure enough, as the sun is setting the old man sees the kid going home with the wire strung out behind him and chickens stuck all through it! Next day, old man rocking on his porch sees the kid walking down the dirt road with some pussy willows. "Now hold on just a minute" calls the old man, "wait while I get my hat!!"

Forgot to mention at last night's club meeting, following upgrade to Lowrance HDS and Navionics platinum cartography, my old b/w Simrad CE33 plotter / echosounder is going begging. no chart chip, no transducer, just the bare box, mounting bracket, instructions and cables. (uses airmar transducer). Worked well in South Wales, uses C-Map charts. If anyone needs a plotter, just pm me. if nobody wants it free, I will put it on ebay for a fiver. john

Brilliant day, great weather, superb instructor, learned so much about getting in and out of Poole. Even got the boat into the air on one occasion! No fish, but you can't have everything. Thanks Dave

many thanks, guys for all of the offers of help John

at this moment, the furthest that I have been is to the end of the marina, at which point, by the chart, I should bear to starboard to follow the green marker poles around. Once past Poole bridge, it will be much easier, even the ferry. I would be happy to follow you, Alfie, but I suspect that you are not going from CQ marina It is a bit nervewracking, first time in a strange place. john

Now that I am settled in, and my internet is at last connected (2 weeks without it is HARD!), I would appreciate it if a knowledgeable chap would like to show me about the harbour and outside, marks, etc. Due to cock-ups, I missed my VHF course, but will be doing one soon. My boat is straining at the leash in Cobbs Quay. any offers? john

sorry, I was just joking john

are any/all of the above safe to sluice into the marina when washing off? Are they good for the mullet? John
-
mine will only cover me for up to 11 miles out John

the problem with Vaseline, imo, is that it can attack some plastics, I believe. John PS, looked around the web and am no longer sure that this is true. May just be old wives tale.

Is this the right forum???

How would it be done? After all, the bladder is very vulnerable. John

sounds good Moa'ki Warrior (still with name of Mary Lou??) now on way to Poole after successful transfer to trailer by HUGE crane, after boat lift broke. I really hope that my luck changes with new name. btw, enormous crop of barnacles completely covering stainless steel prop, causing heavy shaft vibration. First time that the boat has moved since April, and it is FILTHY, but now that I can get to it, I will have it spruced up and shipshape in no time John
