If the two house batteries are connected in parallel ( + TO +, - TO -), then a monitor will only read the state of both batteries together. To read a single battery of the pair, it would be necessary to have wiring that unlinks them, not an economically sensible method. Make sure that both house batteries are of the deep discharge type, often referred to as leisure batteries. Engine starter batteries dont need to be.

To complete this little tale, I updated my HDS7, and met Nigel with his HDS5X. My lack of familiarity with the upgrade procedure for the 5X led to a total cock-up. Nigel's unit still needs updating and my HDS7 suffered software failure and has gone back to Navico for repair. I would suggest to Nigel that the nice people at Marine Electronic Supplies, here in Poole could arrange a faultfree upgrade for him. To cap it all my alternator has gone bang, so I am having my charging system upgraded to twin batteries, etc. I hate the thought of drifting towards Old Harry and the engine failing to start. John

Navico phoned me at 09:15 this morning, agreed that there is a windows 7 problem, but said that they believe the number of people with Win7 is insignificant (??????). Promised to mail me an SD card with update this am. John

I even downloaded a separate FTP tool, but could not get the file

is there anyone with a vista or older OS can download this file and email it to me please? john

Now I have a problem. After ages downloading to get the update file onto my PC (win 7), I get the message 'system not supported'. Tried the other method given, and I get a zero length file with an error alert. Anyone??? John

went down to boat late this pm to check software version. old one: 2.08, new one is 2.51. Going to download update in a few minutes, then we can get together after I have put it in the boat tomorrow. john
