  1. Considering the meet went ahead and was a success with around a dozen fish being caught , comments seem rather negative , but i didnt expect much else , , its not all about the prizes , thanks for the offer like i said to lofty but last year we gave most prizes away for nothing , I was asked to let Bournemouth canoes deal with the prizes and we had other offers too , please dont take it personally even though its possibly a case of sour grapes , maybe if more pbsbac members had entered and caught fish this would have been a different report . . Merry Christmas all . . . Ben
  2. Nice report and pictures Lofty,
  3. Brilliant James, well done again ,

  5. Lovely fish
  6. Nice report and pics lofty, looked like a cracking day for it ,
  7. Unlucky lofty , thats the way it goes sometimes . . If i could just give you one bit of advice without it sounding condescending. In surf launches or when there is a big shore dump try to jump on the yak like you would on a bike so you have a leg over each side giving you stability then paddle a few strokes to get straight and out of trouble before putting your feet in to the footwells. Its worked for me on some nasty launches , give it a try Good luck if you get out at the weekend. Regards Ben
  8. Happy Birthday Martin , hope you had a good day
  9. The Poole Kayak Flounder Comp 2011 was attended by 25 competitors all of which had turned out on a day more akin to sitting indoors watching TV but even though it was getting very close to being cancelled each brave soul took to the water at 11.00am in search of one thing "Flounder" . It wasnt going to be an easy 3 hours as winds were increasing F5/6 as the comp went on and the rain got heavier with it. Our safety boat was constantly keeping a close eye or should i say lip on everthing as within half an hour of the start Geordie Brian made a call on the radio to say that he had a size 2 hook stuck in his lip. After being handed some pliers by the safety boat crew he continued fishing , , Hardcore or what, , The radio stayed quiet so i took a paddle out and sailed down to rockley and back to see how everyone was getting on On my return a few had checked back in but without fish, it was starting to look like it could be a total day of blanks but just as the scales were closing Neil Wilson came rushing across the car park with a 1lb 8.6oz flounder , , At Last, , it turned out to be the only one caught so he was a worthy winner , , i dont have a picture of the fish but here he is on the yak. . Back at base camp where my good wife Claire ,her friend Vicky and Rachael(mrs maver )were busy keeping everyone warm with burgers and coffee , they had done a great job over the two days and i have now used all my brownie points until next year, Thanks Girls x x Anyway , on to the raffle which was a rod and reel kindly donated by Steve(maver) and all proceeds went into the RNLI fund , , The worthy winner after taking a few dunkings while we were playing with the lifeboat on saturday was "Big Dave Neil" So for the main prizes which were donated by Poole bay small boat angling club , Bournemouth Canoes and Castaways tackle. First prize to local man Neil Wilson was a

  11. Graham , it was a shame you didnt get on with the yakking, i still believe there are more stable ones than those that you had and with a little training you could have really enjoyed it, as for the freedom hawk kayaks they are designed more for standing when fishing flat water , not something you would really want to go to sea with . I know you are having a ball with your new boat now but if you still have your drysuit and can get to the flounder meet next week there will be some very stable kayaks for you to try . It would be good to have you out with the " Nutters " again . Ben
  12. According to Royal Navy experts the only problem they could find with the new Ocean Kayak submarine was the possiblity of being spotted whilst surfacing !

  20. Now i know this has been discussed and disputed before about the sensitivity of using an iphone at sea but with the RNLI advising that we carry a moblie as well as vhf i am looking for a case that i can safely keep the water out and be able to keep in my pfd pocket. As well as that i have been stewing over wether or not to get a handheld GPS as i cant afford to upgrade my F/F and to be honest in my opinion it would be great to be able to use one for all, , therefore i have found this but i am not sure if its available in the UK http://www.magellangps.com/lp/toughcase/index.html Also if anyone has used the navionics blue charts app for the iphone how easy is it to use and how accurate is it .I know James (overun) has been using the navionics for a couple of years now ? I really like the way the iphone works and to be able to load my fishing marks in and to plan trips while i am at work would be ideal . Sorry to ask lots of questions about this but it would be good to keep it all in one thread Thanks, look forward to the replies Ben
