    aux engine

I assume it has a long shaft - if so, it should get you going at up to 6 knots in a 165. Harry S
  5. I miss my boat...
  6. The boat is now SOLD. All the best, Harry S

  8. The boat is now SOLD. Warrior 165 MkI built in 1999 and fully refurbished by Warrior in 2004. Bought by me in 2005 with no expense spared since to keep the boat, engines and trailer in full working order. Fitted with a Mariner 60hp 2 stroke main & matching Mariner 4hp 2 stroke auxiliary, both of which have been dealer serviced every year. Trailer is an Indispension Rollercoaster 3 which has also been serviced at the end of every year. The boat has always been kept undercover when not being trailered to the sea and is currently near SWINDON. The boat is completely kitted out and ready for use - I would not hesitate to present her for a safety check - the only thing I am retaining is my grab bag and its contents. Only selling because the sea is too far away from me! PM me if interested and I will send more photos and a full inventory. Boat is also advertised on BoatsandOutboards at

    trailer park

Also be aware that one of the traffic wardens at Wick tried to give me a parking ticket because I had displayed the 2 valid tickets on the windscreen of my car instead of one on the car and one on the trailer! I tried to point out that if I had put one on the trailer it would have either blown off or have been 'borrowed' by someone else. He suggested that next time I put my trailer in the trailer park (having removed the trailer board or number plate) and not paid at all! Do not expect logic to prevail. Harry S
  10. Hi Mike, I have fitted a Warrior provided mounting bracket (rated for 15 hp) following their instructions and its works well. I used a ply backing plate smeared with car filler and mounted it on the starboard hand side as the bilge outlet was already located on the port side. This has the benefit of being able to stand in the middle of the boat to steer when using a tiller extension. I would advise lifting the main engine rather than using it as a rudder in order to decrease drag when powering the boat with a small 4 hp engine. I will try to attach a photo! Please PM me for any detailed fitting advice you might require. As the others have said - a long shaft is required! Best regards, Harry
  11. Thanks for the information guys and thank you for your kind offer Clive. I'm off to Milford Haven this weekend and so I will try some Quicksilvers for size at the chandlers. All the best, Harry
  12. To any unofficial Warrior Owners Club members, I have the standard 45 litre red Tempo oblong fuel tank which fits pretty well into the recess at the rear of the boat. Trouble is its very heavy to carry about when full so the whole boat has to go to the pumps to avoid a hernia. Has anyone got 2 x 25 litre tanks instead which fit snuggly into the well? If so, what make and size are they? There are loads of 25 litre tanks advertised but I dont want to take a risk on them being too big or small. Any advice welcome. All the best, Harry
  13. Good point about the RYA Level 2 Powerboat course - I did one through the PBSBAC and found it invaluable even though I already had an RYA Coastal Skipper ticket. Jim - that makes 7 Warriors! Regards, Harry
  14. Hi Barney, Some things I discovered on Hook'n'Eye: If you are going to have an auxiliary engine, place the mounting bracket on the starboard side - this means that the tiller will be inside the boat and, if you have a tiller extension, you can stand in the centre of the boat to steer. Put a couple of extra deck cleats forward about level with the leading edge of the side windows - there is space on mine in the non slip deck coating. This is just where you need to put a 30+ cm ball type fender to avoid pontoon rash when coming alongside! Don't put the trailer too far in the water when retrieving the boat as there will be a possibility in wind and tide for the boat to fall off the front roller and get trailer rash either side if the keelband. You only need to get the bow engaged with the first set of swivelling rollers and then use the winch. On a reasonably sloping ramp, the trailer wheels only need to be half submerged. Remember to lower your antenna when trailing - I lost mine to a conker tree in Wiltshire! The nice guys at Warrior will usually supply you with replacement swivel clips FOC for the trailing canopy when they eventually corode and snap off. They have also sent me some new Warrior stickers and a length of the red & blue coach stripes. If you have a minor bump and scratch the gelcoat - don't panic! Gelcoat Filler is brilliant, easy to apply and the repair is virtually invisible on a white hull (not so easy to match on the blue hulls though). Hope to see you on the water one day. Regards, Harry
  15. Thanks for the advice. I have decided to keep the boat and give it one more season - here's hoping that 2009 will bring a better summer than the last two! Regards to all, Harry
  16. Hi Gary, I have had some interest - about a dozen enquiries through boats & outboards for more information - but still no visits! I won't be dropping the price anymore and so will probably keep her - no point in giving a good boat away. I guess the credit crunch is hitting everyone. Thanks for the moral support. Regards, Harry

  20. Had an excellent day out from Poole yesterday - glorious sunshine, the Red Arrows, swimming in Swanage Bay and plenty of mackeral too. Hook'n'Eye behaved perfectly - engines started first time and everything worked as expected. However, it makes for a very long day with the round trip from Swindon, so I am going to sell her. Price has been reduced to

    ICOM GPS lead

Hi Coddy, I have used Waters & Stanton PLC for ICOM spares and they are quick to deliver. Go to www.wsplc.com and select 'marine band' from the product menu and then follow your nose. Phoning them up should help if you draw a blank. Regards, Harry
  22. Hi Terry, Glad to be of help - the delivery from Marine Megastore was very quick. Yes, I still have the boat - can't get myself to part with it just yet. I have also renewed my membership. Hoping for some better opportunities this summer to build up my local knowledge and confidence. Let me know when you are passing and we could start a Warrior convoy! All the best, Harry
  23. Hi Terry, I have recently replaced the antenna on my Warrior 165 'A' frame - I sent for this one from Marine Megastore and it fitted perfectly on the drilled horizontal plate on the 'A' frame. Quality is good and it rotates easily to the horizontal (which is what I forgot to do with the last one!) plus plenty of coax and a good connector. You will need to borrow a soldering iron though - I have one near Faringdon. http://www.marinemegastore.com/product.asp?pf_id=AQU_Q06341 There is 10% off your first order too! All the best, Harry

  25. Tom, I'll come with you - I've actually gone after Tarpon before - but it was from a helicopter in Central America and with a rifle! Massive great fish - however, we never got to weigh them as the crocodiles moved in too quickly. Don't expect that technique will go down too well with the Welsh Tourist Board. Harry P.S. How big are the crocodiles at Abertawe?
