There is no transom ply in the area being discussed - we are talking about fitting an auxilliary outboard bracket on the back of a Warrior to the right or left and above the level of the main transom. There is only fibreglass in this area and Warrior recommend a backing plate. Harry S

Coddy, Warrior do recommend a plate on the inside - I bought a 20hp mounting bracket from them for a 4HP motor and they supplied a painted ply plate about twice the size of the foot of the bracket and 3/4" thick. They also recommended mixing up some car filler, smearing it over the whole of one side of the plate and 'sticking' it in place on the inside before drilling from the outside (once set). The wooden plate on the inside of the boat can also be quite useful for attaching electric junction boxes etc. Hope this makes sense! Regards, Harry

Dear All, I expect that this has been the subject of previous posts but, if so, I cannot find them! I have a Mk 1 Warrior 165 and want to fit an auxiliary outboard. Most pictures I have seen show the auxiliary mounted on the port side. Is there a good reason for this, as it seems to make the tiller arm difficult to reach? Is the reason weight distribution (to counter the starboard battery box and/or the helm when running on main) or is it to do with the direction of torque? Any advice gratefully received before I drill large holes in a perfectly serviceable hull. I also hesitate to ask whether I should buy a 2 or 4 stroke auxiliary having read recent posts! My main engine is a Mariner 60hp Bigfoot 2 stroke which is going really well. Looking forward to the new season. Best regards, Harry S

Thanks Mike - I was too late - which was a pity! Regards, Harry

I'm after a second outboard for my Warrior 165 - ideally a Mariner 5HP 4 stroke longshaft in tip top condition complete with fuel line and a very low price - well its worth a try! Any sensible compromises considered. Harry S

....and we cycled or walked miles to school on our own in all weather, in uniform with a cap on and felt good to be independent and trusted to get on with it.....I think its called responsibility (now of course a government department)...

Nice 'as new' Warrior 165 for sale on ebay - if you can afford it (I can't!). http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WARRIOR-165-BUILT-20...1QQcmdZViewItem

Guys, Thanks for the all the advice. The problem I have is that there is no visible number on the key - it has a squarish heat shrunk/moulded black plastic cover on the top of the key with the 'Quicksilver' logo embossed on it. Would there be a number on the remote itself? Its about 5-6 years old. Regards, Harry

Does anyone know where I could get a spare key made for a Quicksilver remote control attached to a Mariner 60hp Bigfoot? A source of Quicksilver key blanks would also do the trick. I live too far inland for any local keycutters to stock boat bits! Hopefully, Harry

Duncan, Yes that was me looking for a safe place for the kids to swim ashore! Will return there next time for a picnic and a few beers! I expect my pennant was conspicuous as it is still free of engine oil and coffee stains. Harry

Mike, Keith, Martin, Duncan, Charlie, Sorry I missed you all on Sunday - some last minute chores at home delayed my departure and I finally launched at 1100 from Cobbs. Very impressed with the facilities, ease of launch & parking etc. Just cleared under the bridge and found my way out to sea and had a great day fiddling about in Studland & Swanage Bays. Caught half a dozen mackeral off Old Harry and kids swam ashore etc. Exciting tidal races here and there - altogether a good day out. Didn't see a single club pennant! Hope to meet you all on another day! Regards, Harry & son

Mike, Keith, Martin, Duncan, Thanks for the replies. I hope to be at Cobbs at around 0930 for a 1000 launch. Nice to know that there will be boats around. I have no idea of local area so would like to tag along with whoever I can. Will be flying the club pennant and looking lost/bewildered. All the best, Harry

Is anyone going out this Sunday? Forecast looks good. Hoping to launch for first time from Cobbs Quay and would appreciate a buddy boat. Regards, Harry

Thanks for that - well under 1500kgs even with the kitchen sink! All the best, Harry

There was a post some time ago about trailer noseweights which prompted the answer of 7% of the all up weight. Someone guessed that a Warrior 165(?) + engine + kit + trailer would weigh approximately 1300 kgs giving a noseweight in the order of 90kgs. Did anyone ever weigh their boat and trailer? I'm keen to find out because my new motor has a braked towing limit of 1500kgs and I have a Warrior 165 + Mariner 60hp Bigfoot + Rollercoaster 3 + fuel + anchor + kitchen sink etc and no local weighbridge. All the best, Harry

What a great bunch of guys you all are and what a terrific club to belong to. I will be flying my pennant with pride. All the best, Harry

Thank you all very much for the advice - I will try Bath Road this Sunday and report back! Harry

Does anyone launch regularly from Lymington? If so, which slipway is best - Town Quay or Bath Road? Any advice/tips on using Lymington most welcome. All the best, Harry

Thanks for the reply Terry. I have the owners manual in forty languages but it doesn't go down to the detail of changing a thermostat etc. I need the equivalent of a Haynes Workshop Manual - or an expert! All the best, Harry

Thanks for the advice Mike. Does anyone have a worksop manual on CD who could email me the page dealing with the thermostat on a Mariner 60hp Bigfoot?

I have a 5 year old Mariner 60hp 2 stroke on a Warrior 165. Have used the boat a couple of times in a variety of conditions and didn't notice anything untoward until last weekend. Launched from Wick and engine started first time. Slowly motored out towards sea at 4 knots for 30 minutes and then went at 20 knots for 20 -25 minutes until joining Neo and dropping the anchor. Left motor idling for about 10 - 15 minutes and the engine warning buzzer went off. Noticed slightly more than usual exhaust smoke but put this down to the fact that the engine was still trimmed up a bit. Visibly, the tell tale was performing OK. Switched off engine. Tried not to panic. Fished for about an hour or so and then decided to move off. Engine started first time, tell tale OK, no buzzer and so set off at 20 knots for about 15 minutes. Dropped anchor and then checked tell tale. Nearly scalded myself. Switched off engine. Beginning to think there may be a problem. After another hour, engine started OK and so cut anchor warp (another story) and headed back to Christchurch following Neo at about 15-20 knots and then 4 - 8 knots back to Wick. Tell tale working OK. No more buzzer. Switched off as soon as reached slipway. Next day put on engine muffs at home and flushed out with fresh water. Tell tale temperature was cool at tick over at 800 rpm for 15 minutes or so but rapidly became very hot at 2000 rpm. Is all of this normal? Am I paranoid? Is there a problem? The only thing I did to the engine before this particular trip was to top up the 2 stroke oil resevoir with Quicksilver 2 stroke oil where I noticed that the new oil was a darker blue than that which was already in the tank. Any advice/reassurance greatly appreciated. Harry

I suppose I should post a reply here! First trip out ever on Hook'n'Eye. Decided to launch boat from Wick on good advice from Paul D. Arrived at 0900, parked car & trailer, bought

The previous owner of my boat stuck a piece of wood (18" x 6") to the inside of the inner transom to mount a homemade rod holder. I have since removed the piece of wood to be left with an unsightly area of rock hard glue which will not peel off. It looks like it could be 'no more nails'. Any suggestions on how to remove it short of chiselling and sand paper?

Paul, Thanks for the offer to tag along on Sunday from Wick. Still undecided as to Sunday or Monday - weather looks good on Monday too (at the moment). If I have to stay at home for Sunday lunch + in-laws + kids + valium etc, is anyone venturing out on the Bank Holiday Monday? Harry
