  1. Thank you Duncan. Sounds a bit complicated - I'll stick to the 'click on thumbnail to expand type' as it took me a while to master that one! Regards, Harry
  2. Very nice boat - how did you post those large pictures? Harry S
  3. ....final one.
  4. And another...

  8. Reluctant sale due to not having enough time to make full use of her. Bought by me in 2005 with no expense spared since to keep the boat, engine and trailer in full working order. Fitted with a Mariner 60hp 2 stroke which has been dealer serviced every year, last one in Apr 08. Trailer is an Indispension Rollercoaster 3 which was fully serviced at the end of 2007. The boat has always been kept undercover when not being trailered to the sea and is currently near SWINDON. The boat is completely kitted out and ready for use - I would not hesitate to present her for a safety check - the only thing I am retaining is my grab bag and its contents. Please PM me if interested and I will get in touch. Also advertised on BoatsandOutboards.
  9. Thanks for all your advice. Seems I should get up earlier and stick with Lymington & Poole! But then again I may have to sell the boat or move closer to the sea. Anyone interested in a Warrior 165? All the best, Harry
  10. I have looked on www.boatlaunch.co.uk at sites on the Hamble but am still uncertain as to the best or the most cost effective place to launch. I have a Warrior 165 towed by a 4x4. I'm looking for an alternative to Poole, Lymington and Christchurch as I live near Swindon and am getting fed up with all the driving! Any local knowledge would be appreciated. From available information on the internet, Hamble Point looks good. Am I right? Regards, Harry P.S. I am used to the excessive charges at Cobbs Quay but I do like the facilities and parking it offers.
  11. Seems there is a one day fair weather opportunity to go out on the water tomorrow - is anyone else venturing out? Planning to launch from Cobbs Quay at around midday. Would like to meet up with another boat if possible. Regards, Harry S
  12. Some thoughts of mine... I mount a 4hp auxiliary on Hook'n'Eye (Warrior 165 + 60hp 2 stroke) and I believe the advantages do outweigh the disadvantages. The auxiliary will comfortably push the heavy Warrior along at 3 - 4 knots if the main fails. Essentially, I have 2 different fuels as the 60hp drinks neat petrol and mixes in the oil in the engine, whereas the auxiliary is a straight 2 stroke. To get over this I carry a small 5 litre plastic can of ready mixed 2 stroke which, together with a full integral tank in the auxiliary, will give me well over 3 hours of running (enough to get out of trouble). Apart from the peace of mind an auxiliary gives in the event of main engine failure, it would also be useful if running short of fuel for the main (for whatever reason). I can travel further for less fuel with the auxiliary even if it does take a lot longer. One further advantage with my particular auxiliary (4hp Mariner Sailmate) is that it has a charging circuit which I can connect to my battery terminals to maintain some power for radio and lights in an emergency. Its also great at trolling speed and avoids sooting up the main! Best regards, Harry S
  13. To help you compare prices, I bought my 1999 Mk1 Warrior 165 with a 60hp 2 stroke Mariner 2 years ago for
  14. Coddy, I am getting braver by the launch at not reversing my trailer and 165 too far into the water but still manage to submerge the whole brake drum. Is there a rule of thumb or a way of working out if the slope is steep enough to not wet the brakes but also avoid grounding the back of the boat on launch? Trial and error could be expensive and embarrassing! Regards, Harry
  15. Oh well I guess there haven't been many trail aways to Milford Haven! I'll report back after the weekend. Hopefully I will catch something before I get to Cork. H
  16. Thanks Mike - that's what I think too. I'll have to test it when next on the water! Regards, Harry
  17. Having managed to avoid breaking my arial on Poole bridge by lowering it well in advance , I have had the top taken off by a conker tree in Oxfordshire on the way home . Can I effect a repair by placing a suitably sized pen top on the end or would I be undoing some cunning design strategy where the white cap was in fact an integral part of the antenna? I am currently looking at a 1" long thick piece of copper/brass wire sticking out of the white composite tube where the tip used to be. I am sure that the length of the wire is the same as before. Looking down the tube from the top, the wire is zig-zag shaped. Or do I just need to bite the bullet and buy a new antenna at around
  18. Off to Milford Haven next weekend to visit the outlaws - knew the boat would be useful one day! Does anyone have any local knowledge about where to fish there? Otherwise I will be launching at Neyland and following the ferry to Cork! Any inside information most welcome. Regards, Harry

    Alderney Ring

I bought one of these kits from a seller on ebay and found it to be very good quality and reasonably priced. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/50-BUOY-ANCHOR-RETRI...oQQcmdZViewItem He does 2 sizes - I got the bigger one! 50" (A2) buoy for anchors up to 16kg at around
  21. If I launch from Cobbs Quay and pay the fee, am I exempt harbour dues? Harry.
  22. Duncan, Paul, Many thanks for your advice. I'll attach it to the boat, find a way of locking it onto the bracket and leave it there. Its insured if it gets stolen. Hope to see you on the water this year. Regards, Harry
  23. I now have Mariner 4hp 2 stroke mounted on a bracket on the rear of Hook'n'Eye as an auxiliary engine but I need some advice as to how to keep it there! Should I leave it mounted when trailering? How can I stop someone from nicking it? How can I ensure it doesn't fall off? If it does fall off at sea, how can I stop it disappearing forever? All advice etc welcome. Harry
  24. where did it go? can we hav it back? please
  25. Terry, Let me know how you get on - I need to replace one on my 165 too! Any tips gratefully received. Are you having your engine serviced by the man in Abingdon this year? Harry
