I think personally Ray, if you only have £6k then your not going to get anything good within that budget, you will have to spend loads to keep what you get up together. Mike Sea start are well worth the money (even for piece of mind). I’ve had my own boat towed back from Chichester to southampton a few years ago, and a friend has had his boat towed to Bembridge, then the seastart guy ran us back to southampton in his rib at 30knots ! I realise you are a marine engineer Charlie and do your own engine and leg servicing but, with a petrol outboard the cheaper maintenance will surely offset against the steeper fuel bills ?
