  1. thanks Tiddler, i think that may have to be the answer if i cant raise the winch post, or if anyone thinks it is a bad idea.
  2. sorry yes, old setup was the black rollers. but i replaced them last weekend after they didnt prevent the metal bar between them rubbing on the hull in transit. having the boat 100 miles away makes it hard to plan these things! have to work from photos and memory. My 'common sense' approach would be to raise the whole winch post slightly so both of the snubbers are touching the hull on points where it has the same angle. but i wanted to make sure i wasnt doing something incredibly stupid. I have searched the internet, but havent been able to find any guidance on this.
  3. what i found that metal bar that links the two rollers together can rub on the hull because of the change of angle in the hull at the front chine. I am thinking that i should try to raise the whole mechanism a bit higher? whereas your hull doesnt seem to have the drastic change in angle that mine does
  4. A couple of pics. Thanks guys
  5. Hi everyone, Sorry being a bit of a pain at the moment as i am trying to get everything right. Has anyone seen any good resources on setting up the bow snubber on trailers? I have an indespension trailer with a hinged snubber post with two snubbers. Doesnt sit very well on my boat and caused damage, i was wondering if i have it set correctly (from when i bought it). My boat has a 'chine' between the upper and lower hull, but the current setup has the top and bottom rollers touching different parts of the hull. I wonder if this is wrong.
  6. anyone targeting makos?
  7. indeed! any time someone asks why the british car industry fell into decline should be made aware of this phrase. i was a bit annoyed that a 3 year old boat has seen something fail that has lasted 20 years on other boats i have owned. I have never had to replace a teleflex cable before. the engine end of the cable had locked up and the steering box end had exploded to let the inner cable escape when under load.
  8. i fished Chichester harbour a few times, doing some sport fly fishing for bass and wading out on the gravel bars. If you want to see some sail vs motor chaos, go in there on a day when the kids sailing school is out. it is utter carnage
  9. I was almost there..... Got as far as putting the tail in the water before I found my steering had seized. Very annoying as it was a glorious day. 5 hours later, we managed to free the steering cable with some liberal use of the universal adjustment tool. Not such a successful first trip of the year.

welcome. you are in the right place for the advice! I have been interested to go after bass on the fly, have tried it in chichester harbour, but there are fewer spots to try it in Poole. I have been looking at the shingle bar near the harbour entrance, lots of gulleys and 6ft water, and it is outside the bass nursery area. lots of traffic through. let me know how you get on.
  12. finally, someone with common sense, who can spell it out
  13. i agree, it is frustrating. It is the government leaving the rules as ambiguous. All i can find is that from the 29th, the message changes from "stay at home" to "stay local" If they dont want us to travel, just spell it out
  14. Thanks Hooky. I think i recognize some of those places he is fishing. Looks like he is on the wreck of SS Stanwood outside falmouth in some parts. plus, i am with you on the lures. I dont like icky stuff in my boat
  15. 12th of April for me. got the service in the works new ski pole mounted bait table is under construction and on schedule.
  16. thanks Ian. I have got some work to do on the boat before i can even think about getting out!
  17. for me it is more about the travel. I live in west London and we have been banned from crossing county lines, which i am fine with, I just think some clear guidance on when that will be lifted would be a good idea. I wont be coming down before the 12th of April, but I am sure there will be a lot heading your way on the 29th of March.
  18. yes, the rules arent very clear. 29th of march is when "stay at home" ends, and the message shifts to "stay local". But holiday sites open up from the 12th, so i guess that means we can travel. Some clear rules would be nice, as opposed to some vague inference. either way, anchors away!
  19. So it looks like 12th of April is the date we can start coming again. Looking forward to it.
  20. I dont want this to look like i am "team sussex's" because i really don't care what they or the royal family do. I do my best to avoid it, but it is getting rammed down my throat from every angle. I don't understand why everyone cares more about made up stories about a couple than the fact that national press are willing to make up stories about someone (to paint them as a villain) to sell papers because the public will have moved on and forgotten about it by the time the newspapers lose their libel case and are forced to publish a retraction in a small corner on page 27.
  21. The property price differential isnt quite what it used to be! Covid fixed that one. Problem is jobs, while i can earn a good living in London, not much call for economist/datascientist/investment strategists outside of the big smoke. Putting two kids through univerisity is going to cost a pretty packet by the time they go and there probably wont be a state pension by the time i want to retire so it is a case of save, save and save. Times have changed. But on the plus side, if they get a scholarship, daddy will move to the coast early and buy a huge boat!
  22. no fishing in gunnesbury park for some time now. They actually drained all the lakes in front of the house a good many years ago. Only the small pond was left at the bottom corner and the duck pond at the top. But last summer they did a massive refurb of the park and have reinstated the ponds in front of the house after many years of neglect. Such a shame that they left such an historic site fall into disrepair - but it all looks great again now. I use to play cricket and football in Gunnesbury Park, and i took the kids there last weekend. Checkered Flag! wow that was a blast from he past. I cant remember if that was even there before i moved into Chiswick. I remember it (maybe from visits before i moved there), but it may have been gone for more than 25 years. I would love to move to Dorset, but i have a wife, 2 kids and a boat to feed!
  23. I know this is seems to be an important topic for lots of people, but to me it just seems like the country is losing its mind over this. But on this point of Edward and Mrs Simpson being models of decorum and just stepping gracefully out of the limelight, it is completely untrue. The media circus didnt exist back then, and in reality they were they were actively thrusting themselves into global politics. They were Nazi sympathizers and were lobbying US politicians constantly to try to get them to stay out of the war and align with the Nazis. Not exactly your model patriots.
  24. I am not from there, but i have lived in Chiswick, Ealing and now Isleworth for about 25 years.
  25. welcome Nigel. i joined about three years ago, haven't regretted it. everyone is very helpful and friendly. I too am looking forward to being able to get down and get out. I live in West London, so i am not allowed to travel to the boat either.
