    MMSI Number?

well there's potentialy even better news on the horizon re licences because in a rare and probably doomed bid to actualy improve efficiency there is currently a consultative document out on making the ships radio licence a one off issue valid for the ownership of the vessel. it may even be free to online self service (print your own) application. way to much sense - I think the EU will block it somehow

    MMSI Number?

Adam, ofcom site's a nightmare so I have linked right through here to the existing ships radio licence ammendement page. You will need your customer reference number as well as your callsign then just go on from there to request an MMSI for your existing ships radio licence. It will come through in about a week, but you can 'cheat' and go into MARS against your callsign in a few days and it will probably be there by then. OK? Duncan

excellent - just stay clear of "dad, will I ever be able to afford my own fishing boat" and we can all stay rational!

  11. Don't worry Jack - they won't self destruct 10 minutes after posting so you can switch off for 3 days, decorate, then come back and they will still all be here!
  12. hence the use of a 2 way switch to ensure the starter battery is always topped up before moving on to the aux. we seem to be starting to repeat previous threads here - but it's always god fun! Paul (J) I wouldn't have any qualms about sticking the batteries under the seat - the runs aren't going to be that long and your engine isn't going to need much in the way of CCA really - you could even hand start that surely? Normal battery cable will be fine. I would get a couple of new batteries (matching) from Macro and keep the receipts (3 year warante) then alternate the one used as aux each trip. link to the 12v handbook is 12v handbook it's a big pdf file and if you are going to download it (recommended) then push the button and go off to make some rigs / coffee. I've checked the link today. I don't think the club should hold the link in any reference area though.

BB are these 'streamer hooks' the ones that got so much press last year? Couldn't remember the name. Wasn't it Adam that had some too?
  14. Adam, mucho sympathy (and glad the Okuma is solid inside after the various discussions last year - just need the fish to really test it!) having spent all weekend (I was reliably informed) on my Penns the difference between the reels was noticable GLS25 LD - 15 minutes tops; almost no internal corrosion, touch of verdigris on some of the external metal 320Gti - 4 hours (including a bit of bother putting it back together!); extensive green and brown bits, bearing a little less than smooth etc (and it really didn't feel as if there was anything needed at all before I got stuck in) 310 Gti - 1 hour (learn't!) less used in the winter and it showed as there was little evidence that salt water had got in and just the odd bit to clean up - bearing sweet too. fuelled by sucess went back to the 975LD and it's now sorted - the drag wasn't releasing properly previously but now OK. The Formula remains outstanding until I get the service book back from the van next month because despite taking all the screws I could see out couldn't get it apart! It seems OK but after the experience of the 320Gti I have decided to pull it apart anyway. Braids will have to last another year - but I don't get out enough with most of them!

I think Jack was recommending the water container for the boat ballast rather than the drifting weight!!!! If you can find a 28lb weight I will swap it for a 56lb for your drift weight - 56 is a little OTT for me! pm me if you need the swap.
  16. anyone want to bet on it surviving the year? Not suggesting Charlie won't hold the new one but I think it's going to come under serious pressure if we get any decent weather this summer. even heard a local tackle shop has had a run on larger scale sizes........

    56lbs

you aren't going to drift with 2 x 56lb weights over the side in much under a 5 ton boat! i've heard the charter skippers want you to bring your own weights but that's pushing it surely?

Thursday souds as though it would have been a great day to test theory! Really sad I missed it - especially as I didn't actually do a lot that day!!!!! The more positively a fish turns it's head as it moves away the better chance for hooking; equally, or possibly more important, the whole gap of the hook must be kept clear or you have no chance. I think you have about a 50% chance to hook the fish each time it takes the biat (and you try and pull it out!) harder/tougher baits give you a few goes - hence my love for a nice piece of cuttle or really fresh mackerel. I would summarise as follows - When you hook up it's going to be the lips Some fish don't hook up well in the throat anyway (rays/tope) others you don't want to hook in the throat or lower (dogs, spurs, smoothies, huss and the above etc). Some you really want to hook in the lips to avoid your trace being in their mouth/jaws through the fight.....(you know them!) You will be better off fishing baits on the small side for the species targetted when using circles - if you want to fish really bit baits then point out hooks will score better. I wouldn't fish circles for plaice or flounder because of the baits but look forward to trying them out for turbot (single sand eel or mackerel strip) in the spring!

First model was the 159, named after the bus route that passed the factory in Brixton. 1958 March 10 Decca HQ moves from Brixton Rd to Albert Embankment although not sure if the factory went with it and I think it, the factory, subsequently went to Raynes Park?

Sorry Kam but neither hook stands much chance here. The rear one is totally dead and the front one is 99% dead as a circle. re T barring circle - absolutely no problem whatsover; works a treat. The bend is going to be exposed so you simply put the Tbar on it and lift. Admit you have to give a good shake at the last minute - and have good tension on the leader - but they come out pretty easy in my experience. PaulJ may comment here...........

thanks Adam - sounds like they weren't just sucking the baits in then; maybe a factor of teh light tide but on the other had it certainly sounds like there was some feeding competition down there, btw the smaller hook is packeted as a 10/0 by Mustad, the next (added this time) is an 8/0 tuna circle (probably the same as the one you were using and the largest one (shown previously) is a 16/0! for comparison I have added a 10/0 o'shaunessey and added an 8/0 light circle by Miriabu - OK it's red but maybe a touch big for bream.......?
  23. duncan

    Bream 'ooks

OK that's 2 for the red ones then so I am going with 1 up 1 down rigs using the red one up top and No 3 on the bottom 'cos it's a bit stronger and should handle anything that accidently comes along. Adam, you know I love circles too - concerned about your implied hook up rate last Thursday though? When you say you wern't hooking up on the circles relative to the others can you explain a little more? How are you hooking the bait? I know James hooks fish baits the same way I do - cut off tail and though the 'root' once so it hangs clear on the bend; how much of the fish you use as bait related to size of prey............. Here's some more hooks - same size 2 aberdeen included for reference and then there's the hok I caught just about everything on this winter together with the one I would use wrecking for conger............

Haven't spent far too much time servicing reels I felt it was time to make up this seasons bream rigs. But which hooks?.......... Here's a selection from the box - which, if any, would you use and why? If you have another suggestion I would love to here about that too! For reference I have put in a standard size 2 aberdeen..............and for reference let's number them from the left (the aberdeen is therefore No 7)
