Hi Guys , Thanks for all your kind words, and you are all more than welcome to come out and tell me what i'm doing wrong. Obviously boat handling is just a small part of the big picture but i could really do with knowing about trip planning ( tides, wind, etc,) Can we do a trip planning for dummies at one of our monthly meets ?. Well i will be based at Weymouth marina, as the boat was on a mooring already so i just took it over. Went down to see her last night with a couple of friends and had my first fish and chips onboard.....GREAT. I am having her name changed from Annie to Marichelle which is a combination of two names Maria and Michelle. These lovely young filly's were two nurses at Southmead hospital Bristol whom i had the pleasure of meeting whilst in for my op, but unfortunately i didnt have the pleasure of them working under me. Any way i have just found out that i will not be able to get her wet on Sunday because she is overdue her first service by some 20 hrs so i will be trying to sort this out and coincide it with her getting antifouled anodes changed and renamed. I hope to get her out within 2 weeks with the help of Tom's mate Mike at Weymouth whom has been extremely good and helped me every step of the way. Thanks to you all. If you need crew over this weekend give me a shout. Jas

Hi Tom , I'm hoping to get down to the boat on saturday and have a boat handling lesson from the previous owner, so i will give you a call on saturday and pop on down to portland to see you. Cheers mate Jas

Hi all, Just wanted to let you know that i have at long last bought the boat of my dreams and it's a Merry Fisher 695 moored at Weymouth. I have to get her antifouled soon and give her a full service for peace of mind and it would probably help if i knew what i was doing in the first place so i will be hoping to get out with some experienced crew to teach me what, when ,how, why , and are used to boat handling a boat with an inboard engine. Can you help ? Hoping to get out on Sunday with Bob F + Rob so space is available for my maiden voyage if you can put up with an inexperienced skipper and a boat that needs fine fettling to get it up to fishy standards, as she has only been used as a diving boat. Hope to see you out there ........Jas

Hi guys, i've just got out of hospital so i haven't been able to reply. Well it certainly looks the part and i would have taken her out for a sea trial if i had known it was up for sale earlier. I have managed to source a boat which is currently moored in Weymouth and i will be writing out a lovely big cheque to pay for her on saturday. Cheers Jas

Well done mate . Me thinks you'll be grinning like a cheshire cat for a long long time . And of course at 34 knots you won't be able to stop yourself grinning. I think they call it the instant face lift, whether you need one or not. Reel em in Jas

Thanks Martin . I have called poole quay boat haven and they have no spaces available. Back to the drawing board...... I am starting to realise that ringing around all of these marinas in a bid to save a couple of quid is becoming quite fruitless. As i say new territory for me.... Any more ideas guys ? Cheers Jas

Thanks to you all for the info given. Now not keen to put boat down at Rockley and now considering swinging mooring . Being a complete boat novice this is all very daunting, and it doesnt help going in for this op because i will be laid up for most of March and need to sort this out asap. The mooring that the boat is on is paid up until 1st April. So really looking for the cheapest/ safest option available for about 6mths until berth is available at Weymouth . PANIC MODE IS SETTING IN. HHHHHEEEEEEELLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPP. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !! ! !! ! ! ! ! ! ! Jas

Hi Martin , been down to rockley today and saw Andy . I got their price list etc and he advised me to get a summer mooring. To be honest i came away more confused than when i went in, but no doubt it will be as clear as mud once i've read through the paperwork. Cheers mate Jas

Hi Rich . I didnt realise that extras were included into the equation. Just thought they worked the mooring fees out on the basic length of hull. May be time to get the spanners out if the price difference is vast.
-
Hi Martin, Hull length is 6.8m/ 22.31ft with max being 6.99m /22.93 ft. I don't know if this includes the bathing deck though.. Beam is 2.36m / 9.06ft and weighs 2217 kgs. Do Rockley do the launching and retieving if given fair notice etc ? Cheers mate Jas

Hi All, I am getting closer to being a boat owner...ie have found the one i want and price is agreed subject to etc. The trouble is it is moored down in the expensive private marina at Weymouth which is paid for up to the 1st April. As you may or may not know i am due for another op on my leg and will be out of action for a while , so i am looking for a temporary mooring solution in the poole area, dry stack, pay per week/ per launch etc until my council berth is available at Weymouth . possible 6mths. Any help will be very appreciated. Cheers guys Jas

Hi All, I passed my driving test after '97 and have recently passed the test to allow me to tow a large trailer. After years of towing cars back from Glascow, not realising at the time that it was illegal i thought that i could just turn up at the test centre and wing it. But after phoning a driver training centre and booking up an assessment lesson they went through what it involved. I was shocked at what you had to do. There is a sequence to couple and uncouple which you have to learn, this includes asking the instructor to check your lights, letting him know that you have put on the number plate before you drive off,and take it off afterwards, reversing around a cone and into a parking bay, emergency stop, and about a 40 minute drive. So my advice is to seek expert instruction and to do the test asap because they are changing the rules again somewhen soon. I was lucky and was able to use a dropside trailer so i was able to sneek a peek out of the back window whilst reversing, but they are soon to not allow the use of these trailers for test purposes and you will have to use a horsebox like trailer which will make reversing alot harder to do. I hope this helps mate but if you need any more help pm me, but i wont be about until next weekend as off to do more casualty simulation. Jas

Hi Duncan, Does that mean that if i purchase a used boat in France, i don't have any legal duty to pay Vat because this would have been paid for already and as far as i am aware import duty is not payable at all on top of the asking price ? Cheers Jas
