  1. Having had a new windscreen fitted on Friday am we were a little later leaving than the rest of the pack. With the weather being perfect for travelling and others bait fishing we made good time so soon caught everyone else up. We decided to go straight to the shambles and take our chances on the bait front. We soon got some bait although it was decidedly hard work with both mackerel and launce coming aboard sporadically. First proper drop and Dean was into a turbot of around 4lb. Then...........................nothing. We decided to try Portland race to try for bass. It was a tad lumpy in there and with just one small bass being caught for our efforts. Soon gave up and opted for a last drift on the bank but without any luck. A quick run into Portland harbour wash and brush up then walk into town? for a very nice curry. Up on Saturday just in time to see Alfresco leave port to plunder those offshore wrecks. We along with most others decided to have a late start so after breakfast and a lot of fiddling about we left for another day on the banks. As there was enough bait left on ice from Friday we started fishing straight away. First drop and Dean is into a small Brill that was about sizable but went back to fight another day. Very slow today with Dean catching a gurnard and a couple of Weavers and that was it. Dean fished as hard as ever I have seen him fish but all to no avail and I blanked, not a blooming fish but still enjoyed the day. The evening gathering at

  6. Nice report James Don't let the seemingly benign conditions you encountered at Peveril Ledge fool you. I have wished I wasn't there a couple of times in a 27' boat, it can be very scary at times and it doesn't need a lot of wind either Martin
  7. For those that might ask Mark has made a donation to the club for having this post pinned here Martin

  11. Hi Toby and welcome to PBSBAC Good boats the 165's I'm sure you will have loads of fun with her Re the rips in one? yes a couple of members with 165's have ventured out to the rips indeed a Raider 16 has also made the journey. You must however be 100% about your and your boats ability and be 110% sure of a settled forecast. If it cuts up and you have to slow down to displacement speeds its a long way home Good luck with your new boat and hopefully meet you soon Martin
  12. I think the England fans needed those towels to wipe away the tears......again Martin
  13. Ben You first have to set a what you want out of a boat list? ie: fishing, overnighting, skiing, tow toys, diving and all the other things we do on water. An example is my boat 27' deep vee for speed, with sleeping for 2 or 3, cooker, fridge, wc and other niceties, tows toys easily and makes a lovely family boat but all those cruising bits compromise the fishing space. I had to choose a boat this way to justify the expense to Mrs Burt. Every boat is a compromise some are more so than others. Make your list and narrow your choice then go looking Martin
