  5. Charlie On the point of watt (excuse the pun) power to use. I frequently hear charter boats that fish the IOW grounds and beyond who have stated on the radio they can see each other, They then carry on chatting, these guys must be on full power for me to pick them up 14/15 miles away so who are the idiots. I always (well almost) try to use low power on first calling then switch to full/high power if no response is heard. I think some of the so-called professionals are not so courteous in their use of radio as they would like others to be. Most of us so called idiots are more professional than the professionals in the use of radio. Gripes aside we should all try and use low power whenever possible. And obviously don

  10. Correct if they aint on the wessex specimen list they won't count in the open comp as we have no reference point but there is nothing to say you cannot claim a club record with a herring. Martin
  11. Hi Harry Firstly welcome to our home on the net and hope you enjoy the site. Regarding your purchase of a Warrior 165 there are several in the club now and I have heard nothing but good reports about them so it looks like you chose wisely there. In Poole you have several options for launching. The first is Baiter slipway that is off of Labrador Drive. The slip is a good tarmac surface that extends about 70/80 metres seaward. There is plenty of parking for both car and trailer. The downside is that it is shallow and you will have to unhitch and push the boat into deeper water to get your boat of the trailer. Cost wise its about
  12. Most of the harbour is mud so my guess is that
  13. Guys A shrimp rig is either a very small hockeye rig or tiny feather type lures. You can catch herring usually in the main shipping channel but could be anywhere in it. A good place to start is around Aunt Betty and work your way down the channel until you find them. Martin
  14. You bet he will Martin
  15. Tom I think you would struggle when in deep water with a tide running full chat, even with creeping up on the anchor it would be hard work, bin there had the blisters but thankfully recovered Martin
  16. Tom You have email with the latest members list attached, this has Rich's home no on it Martin
  17. As Adam said a beautiful start in the harbour and down the swash. It did get progressively worse the further out we went with the winds as forecast a strong 4 occasionally 5. As we were going across it could still maintain about 18knots. Got to the gully and turned into the sea in preparation for dropping the hook, down to 5 knots with water crashing over the cuddy but anchored with no mishaps. Got the rods out baited up and dropped them down. Knock knock yep into a decent eel, couldn
  18. Chris Nice report The water temp is still quite high so expect the unexpected. When are you taking Helena out this year? not before our open comp I hope Martin
  19. Tom Do you buoy your anchor alderney ring style? You (or Sam) would struggle to haul up by hand Martin
  20. Pete You are welcome out on Maverick any time you like so long as you dont mind slumming it on a craft a little smaller than you are used to Martin
