A while ago I sent a letter to my local MP regarding the Marine Charter, thought others might be interested in the response: Dave ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for your recent email regarding the Marine Charter. You will be pleased to know that I have signed the Marine Charter and am fully committed to the creation of an ecologically coherent network of Marine Protected Areas. I was delighted to have Dorset included in the original list of marine conservation zones, but like you, I agree that more needs to be done regarding the issue. This week during DEFRA Oral Question Time in the House of Commons, I questioned Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, George Eustice MP on the Marine Charter. Please see the question and answer below: Annette Brooke (Mid Dorset and North Poole) (LD): What recent representations she has received on the marine charter and marine protected areas. The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (George Eustice): We regularly receive correspondence about marine protected areas, including on the marine charter put forward by Link. I will be attending the marine charter parliamentary reception on 19 November. Annette Brooke: As we approach the fifth anniversary of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009, let me say how pleased I am that Dorset was included in the original 27 marine conservation zones. However, does the Minister agree that there is a long way to go before we can achieve a full network of marine protected areas by 2016, as set out in the Act, and can he say what level of commitment the Government are giving to achieve those important objectives? George Eustice: Earlier this year we announced 37 candidate sites for the second tranche of marine conservation zones and we intend to publish a consultation on the second tranche in the New Year. It is our intention to have a third tranche in 2016, so the work to take forward additional marine conservation zones is well under way. I hope you find these informative. Thank you again for your email. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch again on this or any other issue. Yours sincerely, Annette Brooke MP

From what I have read, I don't think she was worried about insurance for the car

Looking at the letters and numbers on the side of the boat I would think it's been imported from Europe. Hope it's got all the paperwork! I see in the crash the Peugeot was a 13 plate, bet the owner wasn't happy, the Puma car is now a bit of a mess as well!

I use a diamond stone for sharpening, a few strokes and the edge comes back on all blades. Not sure of costs but they are not cheap as chips but it is small and I carry it with me in my tackle box It came from a game fair a few years ago Dave

Just so that members are aware, Southern IFCA are boarding angling craft both recreational and commercial to inspect catches for minimum sizes. They recently caught a commercial bass angler with under sized fish. They confiscated the catch & fishing equipment but they don't have the power to retain the craft. The person has been to court and was fined. I am sure this person/boat will be visited again! I was advised that to date, no recreational angler has been found with under sized fish. SIFCA have also been on both piers recently again warning various groups of people NOT to retain undersized fish. Dave

Belated Birthday wishes Allan Hope you had a good one and a great holiday Dave

On a safety note you, do keep a close eye on the cable and hook as any damage it could break and with the weight of the boat, in or outwards, it could cause a nasty injury with the whiplash. This is why most people use straps on their trailer winch. Sorry to be a bit of a kill joy but would hate to see anyone hurt. (this could cost you a fortune without insurance cover) Dave

Well my eldest son said he was down here for a weeks holiday and could I get the boat ready to use! He did supply me a new fuel line and priming bulb so I installed this and tested out all the engines. All seemed good to go. Due to try out the launch on Sunday but due to various things it didn't happen but at least she is ready, just need to fill the tank with fresh fuel and oil (2-stroke) and have a quiet day down at Baiter. Still have to wire up the electrics on my car but both sons have 4x4 cars with tow-bars and working electrics so no problem in getting down to the water. Watch this space, she might get a bum wet in 2014 and may be catch a fish to get off 0 in the boat species comp!
