Can I suggest that you seal the tube so that water can not enter and sit in it as this will kill the antenna as quick as anything. Black sticky tape is a good start until you have time to make a perminant fix. Coddy

The best way is not to get the brakes wet in the first place! Unless you use Baiter, there is no need to get water into the drums when launching a 165. I back in so the water is just under the drums and the boat goes on and off easily. Save loads of problems and maintenance. Coddy

Went out on from Christchurch, first time this year, as it was the club's Bream comp so thinking Christchurch Ledge was a good mark both Bill and I headed out having stopped in the river to allow the low tide to increase before going over the bar. Both of us managed to catch our first thin lipped mullet, my fish was the first at about 1.5lbs and Bill managed to get one that came in a 3.5lbs and then got another at 3lb! We have tried for these before without success but today we managed it. When the tide had flooded enough to get out over the bar we headed to the car park on the ledge. Bill and I were into small fish, pout and wrasse and I managed a single dogfish but no Bream! Came to move but the anchor was stuck fast and no matter what we did it would not budge, suspect the chain wrapped around a rock when the tide turned. Shiela Marie was watching and called up on the radio and said he would have a try for us if I buoyed the anchor off, which we did, just got to wait to see if he managed to free it. Coddy

Terry that is a nightmare road especially if you get stuck behind a boat on a trailer! Oh it's you! Coddy

Terry If you want to buy a ready to fit kit see here http://www.hubflush.com/index.html or you could make your own with hozlok fittings and pipes to each wheel backplate. Coddy

Hi Mike I have the same set up as you and have experiance the same problems. 1/ Remove the road wheel 2/ Do as Gary suggests and undo the manual brake adjustment nut 3/ Get a large hammer and fairly gently tap (hit) the drum going all around the drum edge, the brakes will normally free off after a while unless the linnings have come away from the shoes. Not that un-common! 4/ If all else fails, gently tap from side to side the bearing savers to ease them off the hub. Do not remove the spring etc inside the saver. 5/ Remove the split pin and undo the castlated nut 6/ Return with the hammer and try to tap off the drum. It will eventually come off with enough effort. I suspect you drive your trailer into the water over the brake drum level, this has a corrosive action on all brake parts. Suggest you fit a flushing kit or ensure that when you finish using the boat you wash out the drums with fresh water every time. Try not to get the brakes wet when launching, Warriors will float in very little water. If you overhaul the brakes, normally needed every 6 months, don't forget to give the cables a good greasing as they corroide up inside the sheathing. A good soak in desiel helps to free them and keep them free before pouring oil down the cables. Tips Never leave the brake on as the shoes will always stick on. When backing the boat back into position after use, always pull forward at the end to take the shoes off the anti-reverse position. Never dunk the trailer into water if the hubs/drums are hot as the cold water shrinks the hubs and draws water into the bearings. Allow to cool normally. Hope the above helps, as you may tell I have worked a fair bit on my brakes before! Coddy

Hi Trev Interesting that in Swanage Bay they show the Castlereagh SS and a little below the Firth Fisher, as both names belong to the same boat! The boat was first named Firth Fisher in 1910 but when she sunk in Feb 1925 she had changed ownership and name to Castlereagh. Of course there may have been two ships named the same! Coddy

Thanks for the info about the regulator but it will be a pain to keep changing it so I thought I would stick with flo-gas Thanks Paul for the offer but may find a use for it soon if it is not sold. Coddy

Hi all Went out and bought a color gas butane bottle for the BBQ last week-end. Problem is the old bottle was a Flo-Gas which uses and differant regulator! So I have a brand new, full Color 13kg bottle of butane which I can't use. Tried to take it back but they said they can't accept it as it may have been used or loss gas or something similar. So if anyone wants one I have one for sale at

If you fancy a good read about shipwrecks, this book, South Coast Shipwrecks off East Dorset and Wight 1870 - 1979 is a good read. Loads of pictures and details. Gives good positions of wrecks and details of which way it lies. Some interesting information on how and why the ship went down. Author is David Wendes, who is a diver, published by; Wight Sprit Charters, PO Box 502, Eastleigh, SO50 0BU - Cost

All sounds a bit "fishy" to me but I think all this talk of super sizes needs to be "scaled" down. Seems many have been taken in "hook line and sinker" by these reports I better "fin"ish this post and get my coat! Sorry couldn't resist. Coddy

Bit of a late report as I have just back from being away. Bill and I took Sammy out to Poole Patch on Sunday, should have gone Saturday as the weather was much kinder :-( We flew out to the mark and dropped the pick and from the off we started to catch fish, for a change! Bill ended up as the wrasse king as he managed to pull up Ballen and a Corkwing wrasse plus another that we didn't know what it was at the time. I thought a GoldSinny but turns out to be a female cockoo wrasse. Bill also managed a couple of Pollock plus a Tom Pot Blenny, I got a black bream of about 1.25lb Wind started to get up to a F4 to 5 so we had a slow wet ride in back to Poole harbour. On the way in I saw a jet skier fall off his bike and start waving for help but just as we arrived his mates turned up to help out. He wasn't hurt but ended up a long way from his jetski. We tried the harbour but nothing wanted to play so came in a little earlier than expected but as usual it was good to be out. Coddy

Well done Moz Nice fish, I can see the bream are appearing all over now. Welcome to the forum Coddy

Hi Adam Perhaps if you did a report I could add it to my web site. Sounds interesting, did think about the smaller unit for the 165 but they do say you really need a larger engine than a 60 4-stroke for best results. Coddy

Duncan that is a good picture showing the ray getting highly stressed by the amount of pink around the wings edges. The more pink and brighter it gets the more stressed the fish is and needs to be returned or dispatched. Coddy
