  1. This came up at a club meet once. If I remember correctly, it was agreed that you are still boat fishing. This appears to be confirmed by Species comps I have seen in the magazines that show anglers fishing from Charter boats moored to the side of the quay for a last minute mini-spicies. Charlie or Martin, can you confirm? Bob F.
  2. Oooh, hermit crabs. Bring on the Smoothies!!
  3. The same thing happened to Enticer on her maiden voyage. The bung had come out during the drive to the slip. Good way of washing the deck. We only found out that the bait wells contained the same bung a couple of hours later.

    Doh!

Mike, Thanks for the giggle and the bottle of wine tonight. I've downloaded the manual of your GPS. So, if you get stuck you can either reference the page in the manual or just give me a call. No need to wait till the next club meeting. cheers Bob F. p.s T'was nice to meet your better halve. Who said Carol was a dragon? You's a big fibber!!!
  5. Sounds ok to me. I think Mark A said he would be coming, so we should include Enticer. So, would are the crew on each boat? Maverick - Bob H, and Pete Blue Warrior - ? Splash Out - BoyBilly (Weymouth local) Loyal Royal - Paul J Enticer - John F Who else wanted to come? Bob F.
  6. Apparently the Hanson Group have applied for a license to dredge the Overfalls area of SE of the IOW, and a group has been set up to raise objections. The recent Blonde Ray record came from these banks, and many rays and large bass are caught a returned by recreational sea anglers in this area. If you have fished this area, contact "tonywilliams@quarrow.fsnet.co.uk" or 01983 568469.
  7. Another article in the NFSA report is that BASS (Bass Anglers Sportfishing Society) are campaigning to increase the minimum landing size (mls) and to have a closed season for bass from Dec 31st to Mar 30th within the 12 mile limit. More information is available from Bass Restoration Chairman Steve Pitts on steve@pitts18.freeserve.co.uk Bob F.
  8. Another snipped I was shocked to read in the March NFSA report was Chairman Ted Tuckerman's target of achieving 7,500 to 8,000 Individual and Personal Memberships. That means there are less than 7,500 members of the NFSA in a sport where "more than one million men, women and children are active sea anglers"!!! So, are all these people just not bothered about the future of their sport? It makes you feel like forcing them to pay attention by making it mandatory to have a fishing license. Just think of the funds if every adult had to pay just a
  9. Saw this article by D. Rowe in the Conservation section of the March 2004 of the NFSA report. NFSA GILL NET CAMPAIGN - UPDATE The NFSA campaign to remove illegal gill nets progresses as we continue to collect and collate information on the sea angler's experiences of these nets and it is encouraging that some prosecutions have taken place over the last couple of months and here are two instances where prosecutions have been successfully brought. The first followed and incident last year which resulted in prosections being brought against two men after they were caught red-handed in Poole Harbour with and illegal fixed net. Environment Agency fisheries officers pounced after they returned to their gill net to recover their catch. The net was discovered during a rountine boat patrol in July of last year and on inspection it was found to contain several fish which included bass, mullet and flounder. The net was secured by an anchor and attached to two floats and a rope near a catamaran moored off Lake Road, Hamworthy. It was not visible from the surface. The two men were apprehended after they returned to the net in a small dinghy to retrieve the net and remove any fish. When questioned one of the defendents said that, "they only wanted the fish for a barbecue". One of the men was fined

Mike, we could meet in a pub if you prefer. I know what these wifey's are like about having strangers in the house. You get all sorts of pre-conditions. If you know a quiet pub local to you, let me know where and when. I could probably do it any evening next week, also, if you prefer. Upto you matey. Bob F

  14. They are rods made by the Spanish manufacturer, Grauvell. Weymouth Angling Center are selling them. There's a review on them in this months Boat Fishing mag. The Grauvell Anagra it is called. Basically, they are a light boat rod that comes with two interchangable tips, for light or slightly heavier work. Price is around
  15. Here's breakdown for todays comp on the bank (Shambles) given by BoyBilly on another Forum. BoyBilly will be meeting us at Weymouth. Two boats, Topcat and Flamer. Topcat had seven anglers, 32 Plaice to 3.5lb, 1 Turbot 12lb, 2 dogfish and numerous sandeels on feathers. Flamer had eight anglers, 36 Plaice to 6.25 ( 4 over 4lb ). Of these 15 anglers at least 9 were using the Gruvell quiver rods. It may have been more but there were 3 anglers on Flamer that I didn,t know. All fish were taken on ragworm with either squid or sandeel strip. Every angler used braid and the most lead I used all day was 5 ozs plus a little ball lead about 12 inches from the hook to pin the bait down. I personally had 6 plaice and dropped four. If the weather stays good you should have a cracker next week mate. BB.

    Hayling?

I believe she was Serviced fairly recently, Charlie. She certainly had new spark plugs. The engine seemed to be flooding all the time, and petrol kept dripping out of the carb. We suspected that the float was stuck. But I think she was just p**sed at Adam for leaving her for a new love...
  25. Saw plenty of fish around the first wreck we went to today, but a charter boat was already on it.
