  1. The course I was on they gave you most of the answers, so you'd have to work really hard to fail. But if you do, you see teacher straight away and do it again.
  2. Yep, that would be my choice at the moment (cos it's cheap) but reasonable quality, local support, and full DSC in one box. The only other thing I can think of is the VHF DSC license if you haven't already got one. Once you have the license you need to send away for your MMSI number which you will enter into the unit when you power it up for the first time. In some older models of DSC VHF's you had to enter the MMSI number during the first power up, otherwise you couldn't go any further with the set up. With most new models you can enter the MMSI number later if you don't have it.
  3. Yes, a new forum topic.
  4. Talked to Adam. He's sat on the shore with the rest of them trying to spin and float fish for whatever is about. Nothing much caught yet. Mixed results on the wreck on the way over. Adam had a couple and Martin next to him was catching on every drop. Confirmed that the plan is to get out on to the banks tomorrow. Change of plan on Thursday, instead of stopping on a mid-channel wreck they will fish the banks for as long as possible and then head home non-stop. Adam said the skippers gave them the option to call the trip off on Monday before they left, but the all voted to go for it. They had a good session on the way out, and should get another 2 days fishing, so probably a good decision. Bob F
  5. Just talked to Mark B. He's sat in a pub in Alderney, bored stiff. They couldn't get out today due to the weather. The rest have gone down to the Lighthouse for a spot of very wet shore fishing (it's raining). On the way out yesterday they stopped at a mid-channel wreck in 350ft of water over an old Passenger Liner. Ling, Pollack and Pout were caught. Everyone had fish except Mark. Biggest Ling was 20lb to Paul J. Biggest Pollack was 14-15lb to Les(?). Forecast tomorrow is 3-5, so they hope to get out to the banks. On the bright side, Mark says the accommodation is excellent. Good job really...
  6. Charlie, I've updated the news on the front page to mention Gary's record and referred to the forum for more details. So, can you open a new thread in the forum? If you have a picture I could put it on the front page also. Bob F.
  7. Worth making a new thread when someone breaks a club record. Any photos or story of how/where it was caught, Charlie? Bob F.
  8. Nice fish!! I've updated the record list on the web site. I make it 130.36% of specimen weight. Bob F.
  9. Bl@@dy weather!!
  10. Charlie recons if they can get out of the harbour they can find good shelter on the lee side of the island but will not be able to get out to the banks. I assume they got across yesterday. Must've been a bumpy ride though. Good call on the gum shields, Pete.
  11. Bit like down here, Malc. It's in between the time of the winter and summer species, so a little hit and miss. Not a bad session, though. No blanking and a fair variety of fish.
  12. 4lb and 3lb bream!! That's pretty good going. Club record is 4lb 6oz. Specimen size is 3llb 8oz, so 4lb is around 114% isn't it? Make sure they are all recorded. Could win the May trophey.
  13. Yeh, a 5-7 SW is too rough for me. I'll be on standby just incase, though. Bob F.
  14. Like London Buses.
  15. 200lb plus from 400ft!! Ruddy 'ell, I'm gunna need to year to get into shape!
  16. Cheers Billy. Have fun, matey!
  17. Adam, Dave, James, I have had to cancel the Scotland Skate trip that we had tentatively planned for Sept 10-13. Too many things have got in the way for most of us (excluding Dave), and the rest of the year has already filled up for Davy (our host in Scotland) and for me. We'll give it another try next year. The big ladies will still be there, especially after the way Davy has been looking after them for us. cheers Bob F.
  18. Billy, Charlie and I have settled on Tuesday evening. Is that ok with you? Plan would be to meet at Charlies boat as close to 5pm as you can make it. We'll stay out till 11-12 if the weather and fishing is good. Can you pick up the hermits?? Not sure how many we'll need, probably at least 20 each, I guess (assuming they're not too expensive). Charlie, can you give directions to Great White? cheers Bob F.

    4WD for towing boat

Trailer, nice insight. Great idea to get the written guarantee. I'll have to remember that one, it's a real test of the maker's confidence in their product. But the proof is in the pudding, I guess. We'll just have to wait and see how you get on. Malc, gotta agree about the 4 strokes, they're great. Very quiet, no smoke, no vibrations, and start like a dream. I have the 14 1/2" prop and used to get 30knts until I fitted a Dolphin Fin which reduced the top end to 28knts but gives the boat a much smoother ride and more adjustment on the tilt control. It comes onto the plane quicker too. Bob F.
  20. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Codfather. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Billy.

    4WD for towing boat

Wow! What a story. Must have been heart braking at the time. Around our area we don't do any launching from the beach, so we have little experience of the pit falls. But we are doing alot of trail-aways and one day we may have to perform beach launches, so your story is a valuable insight to some of the hazards and tips for safe launching and retrieving. Thanks for sharing the info. By the way, what boat setup do you have now? Mine is a 2002 Model Alaska 500 with 70HP Suzuki Four Stroke. But we have all sorts in the club (members and boats ) all the way up to 35ft. Bob F

    Garmin 182C

Would that be the Lounge? (The other forum) Our site has only been going a year and has been growing like a storm (thanks to Paul D who designed and developed it). We've got more articles to go on the main site (species section, boating techniques, etc) but it takes time to get them all written. Good fun though. Adam, can you post the address for the Danish Web shop on this thread?

    4WD for towing boat

So buyer beware for Landrovers. You have been warned!! I too have an automatic 4x4 and find it fantastic for towing and manouvering the boat. Especially good on the slip where you don't have to worry about clutch control whilst worrying about all the other things your thinking about when pulling the boat out of the water...like will I loose my car to the sea!!! Did I read that right Malroy? You lost the car to the sea?? Pray expand. Bob F.
