  1. What bream!!?? I didn't catch one all day, and I was 200 yds from BW!! But of course young Robert caught one just to out-fish his dad again. He'd been picking up wrasse and pout on virtually every drop and was getting a bit cocky with how easy it was to bring in these fish. But then his little spinning rod bent double and he had his first ever bream on. This was a different matter all together as he struggled to gain control over the powerful dives and darts. You should have seen his shock at how powerful a bream can fight, and then his shout of WOW!! when he saw the beautiful blue sceen when it hit the surface. He was well chuffed. Measured it back home on calibrated scales - 2lb 4.25oz. Yes, he's having in on the BBQ this evening. Bob F.
  2. Nice one Charlie and Sam. Adventurous bit of bait.

Mike, It wont work with 12v. A transformer will not work from a DC input. You need AC. You can buy DC to DC converters, but it's not worth the expense and effort. Wiring two 12v batteries in series will give you 24v, but again, not worth the effort. Look for a 12v wiper. cheers Bob F.
  7. That's over 40lb, so it could be correct.
  8. cheers chaps. Bob F.
  9. Jeeze, that'll do me.

  11. Can anyone give an update on the state of the sand bar at Christchurch entrance. Is it ok for getting in/out, or do we have to lift our skirts? Bob F.
  12. Nice report, Sinbad.

    Help N?

Oooooh 'eck. That shouldn't happen. When you say "then nothing", does the Search window appear? Or does the computer just hang?? Have you tried restarting the computer?
  14. Well, I'd worked that much out.

    Horn!

I've got a hand held, but it's almost a waste of time. I'd like a fixed one powered by the battery, too.
  16. Sounds great, but where are the Ripps?

Adam, Page 27 of your manual. "The bearing pointer, bearing bug and/or compass ring may point in various directions when you are stationary or at very low speeds. Once you start moving, the pointer will be correct." This makes sense because the GPS has no idea which way you are pointing when you are stationary. It can only get information about when way you are pointing when you are moving. I guess it assumes you are always moving forwards. And of course, this explains why you GPS's and Compass readings are different. So, nothing is wrong with your set up!!! We learn something new every day. Nice one. Bob F.

Adam, If you are sat in your boat on the drive, your GPS compass reading should be rock steady, so something is amiss. Are you getting at least 4 or 5 satellite signals? You are surrounded by walls so you may not be getting full reception. Or is it in simulation mode or something silly like that? Bob F.
  19. I'll be away all week. Otherwise I'd jump at the chance. Really enjoyed it last Friday.
  20. Coddy, You are right to ask Adam about the position of the front rollers. The position of the rear rollers is equally important because they carry most of the weight of the engine. If you have moved the boat too far back, the rear rollers will be moved too far forward causing stress fractures due to the over hanging weight of the engine. I think warrior recommend that the rear rollers should be about 6in in from the transom. I'd be very careful about repositioning a Warrior on the trailer, because they are prone to stress fractures during trailering. If the nose weght is too heavy I would look at the distribution of the load in the boat, first. Perhaps there is too much stuff in the bow or there's a spare trailer wheel bolted on the front of the trailer (I used to have my spare wheel on the trailer but took it off due to the weight and because there was a phase of people slashing tyres at the slip and the buggers would slash the spares aswell if I kept it on the trailer. I now keep it in the car). This is teaching you to suck eggs because I know you are aware of all this, but it's worth repeating for others benefit. cheers Bob F.
  21. Mark B, Remember the problem you had on your 182C when you are zoomed in and manouvering around a mark, the position arrow sometimes jumps or does a 180? I think this is to do with the update rate for the Track setting. Goto the Menu and select the "Track" setting. Select the "Active" tab (as apposed to "Record"). In the Interval window, make sure "Resolution" is selected. Note the value shown in the Number window. Halve the number and then enter this value in the Number window. In resolution mode, the plotter records a plot every time you move a certain distance. The distance is defined by you in the number widow. So, if the resolution value is too high the plotter will not update the track postion marker (the arrow on the screen) often enough and thus causing the jumping arrow when you are zoomed in and turning circles around a mark. So, reduce the resolution value. The downside of reducing the value is that it will use up the track memory quicker, 'cus it's recording more often. This just means you will have to clear the track log more often. Experiment with the resolution setting until you are happy. Instead of using "Resolution" for the Interval you can select "Time". This then determines the time between each Track update (instead of distance). But, using Time is less efficient on Track memory, so stick with Resolution and see how you get on. See pages 59 and 60 of your manual. Bob F.

Adam, approx what is the difference in the bearing readings? Does your GPS and Plotter give the exact same numbers for your current location? Bob F.
  23. Went out with Charlie and Rich on Great White yesterday evening. We we armed with frozen hermit, rag, squid and frozen mackerel. The plan was to hit the Whitehouse Grounds for Bream and smoothies, but things didn't go as hoped. First stop was a small wreck just west of Ballard. Only got wrasse and pout. Then steamed over to Evans Rock, but nothing put dogs there, so we moved out to the Whitehouse Grounds to settle in for the smoothies and hopefully a few bream. But the tide was much too strong. Struggled to hold bottom with a 1lb 8oz. We stuck it out for an hour but it was difficult fishing and nothing was biting. So moved back into Swanage bay and anchored up where a couple of charther boats had been earlier. Fished into the night until around 11:30, but nothing but dog city and pout. The wind was really beginning to pick up, so we called it a night. Really impressed with Great White. She handled the waves beautifully, just brushing them aside. You get spray over the top, but who cares when you're tucked inside the cabin, warm and dry. No slamming and a really comfortable ride. OK, so she doesn't do more than 10-12 knts cruising, but you arrive unbruised and ready for action. Impressed with the Lowrance plotter as well. The track update seemed to be better than Mark's new Garmin. On Mark's 182C when you are zoomed in and manouvering around a mark the position arrow sometimes jumps and does a 180. Mark, I think this might be the update setting on your unit. I think you can adjust it so that it updates more frequently. Have a look in the manual. Thanks for the company Rich and Charlie. Another nice night out. cheers Bob F.
  24. Duncan, going out around 5pm. Mostly around the Whitehouse Grounds. Back by midnight. Bob F.
  25. Well, the lads didn't get out again today, so it was another session on the rocks. Adam had a wrasse and a Bass. Don't know about anyone else. I really hope they manage to get out to the banks tomorrow. Adam deserves better after all the effort he put into organizing it. Safe trip home lads.
