  1. Looks like you'll need one of these then? http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/ipb/topic/14461-quicksilver-25l-fuel-tank-gauge/
  2. Finally got this sorted. Coastal rides sent me out the wrong prop last week, right size but was too short in the hub. After a lot of to and fro, they offered to do send me a new Volvo prop at a good price. So for the record I had a 3 bladed Ali prop 14.25x21" I was getting 3600 rpm. Max rpm for the D3 Volvo is 4000 rpm. I now have a 4 bladed Ali prop 14.25x19". I went out today for a short blast up the harbour, a full tank of fuel, Little Reub and a huge bucket of tools onboard. In summary it is a better set up but it will take a few hours of use in varying conditions to really get a feel for it. The old prop wasn't that far off, but with this new prop I feel I'm getting the most out of the engine, and the right pitching and extra blade seem to do what everyone said they would: hole shot seems faster, I'm now planning at much lower speed, just over 10 knots, I get lower revs at cruising sped, for example I used to cruise at 18 knots for 2800rpm, I now get the same speed at 2600rpm. I did give it a WOT run.... That was scary! I've never wound the engine up to 4000 before! It felt like it was screaming and I was concerned that I'd go over.... But nope, at the throttle stop I was bang on 4000 so that was good news - this gave me 34 knots! I've also got the benefit if having a spare prop to carry just in case. So really chuffed and I look forward to trying it out a bit more this spring.
  3. Mmmmmm!
  4. Awesome Rob!
  5. Worth a watch: Some of these beasts are travelling over 150mph! Stick with it... 10 mins in has a few good shots!
  6. I've got for sale a Quicksilver 25l Fuel Tank, with built in gauge. It's in reasonable condition. These are £50 on eBay. I'd like £20 for it. Collection from Poole. Adam

    Fuel Tank

The link doesn't work? If a 115hp came of it, why are you fitting an engine half the HP?
  8. I'll be up for a trip if the weather is OK. It will only be 1 night, 2 days but sounds like a laugh if a few of us are going. I'll sort crew nearer the time. 1. Awol 2. Wishing Too 3. Alfresco 4. Freeboys 5. Joint Venture

    Fuel Tank

When I ran my Warrior 165 with a 60hp 4 stroke Mariner, I used to carry 50l, about 11 gallons. I used just about 0.75l per mile so this gave me about 60 mile range. When wrecking mid channel, I used to take an extra 25l. Outboard tanks will have one of maybe 3 or 4 different connections on them. Provided all your tanks have the same connection you can simply unplug and switch tanks, this saves decanting fuel at sea. I'd suggest you need minimum 5 gallon (25l) tank, ideally 2 of these. Hope that is helpful. Adam

    Sunday?

Window starting to hold for Sunday. Might go west for flatties or out for pollacks. I think I'm crewed up but does anyone want to buddy up? Adam
  13. Don't suppose anyone has a copy of the one where BFM covered our open comp a few years back?
  14. But not this big! http://www.vincelewis.net/bigengine.html Fascinating reading!
  15. If your sleeping onboard a tender is really handy, if not I think it's just as easy to manage with the water taxi. It's also helpful to reserve your mooring if its busy.
  16. Anyone taking a tender this year, or are most using the water taxi?

  18. Steve, I wouldn't worry too much about bait. If its a cold spring and the mackerel are scare early on, it can be worth taking half a dozen to get started, but launce and mack can usually be found easily enough throughout the day. Other baits aren't usually worth bothering with. Lure and artificials for the wrecks and reef pollock are worth stocking up on. Ice? I think there is a sticky topic on here somewhere but the guys either use greenslades or Simon in Southborne.
  19. Right, getting somewhere. Had a good chat with Coastalrides - who supplied the engine orginally. My D3 should max out at 4000rpm - it doesnt so, I'm over propped as I can only get 3600... so thats good news. He has also got a 2nd hand 4 blader that isnt much money - Ive bought it and going to give that a bash - if it works and I want to upgrade to a SS one he will take this one back in exchange, or if it doesnt work out, he'll take it back for a 20% restocking charge - sounds fair to me. Fingers crossed with a 2" reduction in pitch and an extra blade I should get more revs, a better hole shot and a better cruise. I'll know tomorrow as it will be here in the morning!
  20. Rain-x awesome stuff! Is it a glass or plastic screen Peter?
  21. It's hard to see without seeing them. However on both Alfresco and Jv we had tight space to mount them between the roof and window but they went in ok, and they are commercial spec so designed to work continuously in poor weather. http://www.vetus-shop.com/vetus-wiper-motor-12v-package-25mm-spindle-p-2463.html
  22. I did the same mate. I was ranting around the living room too! As you say, he wasn't the best spokesperson was he. I appreciate commercial pressures and I know it's easily for us who go and catch a few sustainable table fish to be holier than thou... Most people can't do this and need to buy fish... And with the recent upsurge in TV chefs its En vogue.... But just because 'that's the way it's always been' it doesn't make it right. Hanging used to be the 'way it's always been' and than doesn't happen anymore. I've dived both Lyme bay and the Lulworth banks extensively and I can tell you he is talking utter bo$$ocks... These areas are not sand and stone they are small reefs, ledges and banks covered in hard and soft coral and invertebrates. The areas that have been scallop dredged need to be seen to be beloved. They are like deserts with oasis around them. NOTHING is left... Nothing at all.
  23. Stop it Charlie....! Ah.. The Nannels Pollock! Can't wait!
  24. 'Not enough evidence on the 100+ rejected zones' No.... What you really mean is that commercial pressure was greater in these areas as opposed to enough evidence.
