  1. No need to edit my post, just copy it, paste it and add to it - it keeps it at the front of the thread. Like here: (although thanks Martin for updaing it!) 1.) Joint Venture - Adam, Bob and Alun - 4 day trip, leaving 6.30am Poole 2.) Awol - Martin, Dean, PJ - 4 day trip, Timings still open Poole 3.) Quest Two - Tom + Crew - 4 day trip, leaving Poole 5.30 start ? 4.) Phaeton - Duncan + crew timings still open 5.) Alfresco - Charlie, Gordon , Will, Sam, Dan - 4 day trip leave Poole 5.30am 6.) Just Perfick - Tomo, Paul D - 4 day trip, leave Xchurch 5am 7.) Wight Magic - Dave, Gordon H ,Bri, Leaving 6.30 Poole Looking good. It seems the Poole boats are planning on leaving between 5.30 and 6.30am - so we can either have two flotillas or agree on a time, say 6am and all go together? I'd suggest we aim to rendezvous with Just Perfick somehwere midchannel if they want company across, alterntively will they head over towards Poole first? Q - Has anyone got access to Ice? If not - Greenslades? If the weather is good, I'd like to raft up the boats one eve and have an onboard BBQ rather than down the pub?
  2. An update on who is going would be helpful, as it is now getting near the time when we need to plan leaving times etc. If I start a new list then people can reconfim as we had quite alot of interest early on: 1.) Joint Venture - Adam, Bob and Alun - 4 day trip, leaving 6.30am Poole 2.) Awol - Martin, Dean, PJ - 4 day trip, Timings still open Poole 3.) Quest Two - Tom + Crew - 4 day trip, leaving Poole 5.30 start ? 4.) Phaeton - Duncan + crew timings still open 5.) Alfresco - Charlie, Gordon , Will, Sam, Dan - 4 day trip leave Poole 5.30am 6.) Just Perfick - Tomo, Paul D - 4 day trip, leave Xchurch 5am 7.) Wight Magic - Dave, Gordon H ,Bri, Leaving 6.30 Poole
  3. Seiwa Explorer - http://www.seiwa-marine.com/seiwa_explorer3.htm IMHO the ones that run on a PC only are fine for yachts where you are running slow and have access to a chart table. For our style of boats, the Seiwa explorer is ideal in that it displays on a PC or LCD screen, but has the full functionality of a fixed unit plotter.
  4. Dan, Are these Aero's or not? Is it
  5. Sam Tricket (07810 561520) Looks after a number of members boats, is mobile and rates good.

Umm.... as per the title?? Untrue??
  8. Happy Birthday Dean!! Have a great day.
  9. Long range outlook for May: May Temperature: Above average Precipitation: Slightly below average The first half of the month is expected to bring spells of dry and increasingly warm conditions to much of the country, although in northern areas it may well remain less settled and cooler with showers or longer outbreaks of rain at times. The second half of the month should see temperatures continuing above average with some significant warmth at times. Across much of the country it may turn rather unsettled at times with heavy showery rain developing widely, although a reasonable amount of dry, sunny and warm weather is still expected. Forecast Issued 01/03/2009 Pretty much hedges it's bets!...
  10. Is that 9.30 slack mid-channel or Alderney? Not fussed about anchoring so would be looking at leaving circa 7am? 8 weeks to go!
  11. Well just looking at the comparative sizes - 1st is 1.7 - 5.07 and the smaller tides seem to be circa 2m - 4m??

Still sounds cruel to me, even if you are going to eat it - speared and left to tire and die?? I'm sure with a bit of organisation they can be bought onboard - if 100lb + common skate can be boarded on Warrior 165's, then their must be a better way than that??
  13. They look reasonably big when we are planning? Suit me just fine - but maybe not those who want to fish for eels??
  14. I might be able to do a day next week Al - except Thurs. Discuss on phone?
  15. Hehe!! PMSL! You wernt that jolly at the time! I might re-post the link on the forum just to re-ignite the action! As far as I can remember it is the most dramatic situation faced by a member since we joined? PS: Why is it whenever 'something' happens to me at sea either james or bob are onboard!!!

    vhf ring

    Answer it?
  17. Brilliant!! What HAS the Navy come to!!
  18. Nice one buddy! Bob - maybe I'll start taking him rather than you!!
  19. Brian, Get them - simple as. Cheap and hugely effective - IMO, all 165's should leave the factory with them. Contrary to what Dave says, although they do help stop porposing at top speed, the main benefit is a smoother ride - they force the bow down to a better wave cutting position and allow greater use of the engine trim. I did a report on here when I fitted mine. Adam

    Galley Update

A gas stove?? We looked into an invertor (not a microwave) for JV and decided against it - to be of any real use a big unit was needed, but Bob would tell you in more detail. Personally I wouldnt bother on a day boat - stick with a simple gas ring / stove / cooker.
  21. How?? This sounds dodgy... do you mean temporary doel fins? If you mean temp trim tabs, how will you do that? Persoanlly, I'd suggest a power issue, as 130hp should be more than enough to plane the boat - unless it is heavier than it should be, i.e water logged, and than tabs will be a temp cure, and not really solving the main problem.... Its hard to tell over the internet.

    Free Boat

Well done Brian - great news! I'd love the trailer, perfect for when JV needs to come out, but I cant really justify having it sat round for one use a year - it's a cracking trailer though. Have you put it on the trailer section of boats and outboards?
  23. Neal's reply sums it up for me - not actually taming the fish, but fishing the lead. Was proven on Sun when the tide dropped and we swung away from the wreck, I was fishing a 12lb class no problem at all - 7000 sized reel and 6oz lead. Reels are also crucial - sure my 20/30 Abu will handle 1.5 or 2lb of lead but winching that and a big squid bait up from 100' takes it's toll on the gears.
  24. Brilliant!!
  25. It's not that extreme surely? Water over 100' with 2lb leads is pretty common what sat on the hook around here? Yep, seriously hence this post - change my views on this.... What would you use then?
