  1. Nice one buddy! Bob - maybe I'll start taking him rather than you!!
  2. Brian, Get them - simple as. Cheap and hugely effective - IMO, all 165's should leave the factory with them. Contrary to what Dave says, although they do help stop porposing at top speed, the main benefit is a smoother ride - they force the bow down to a better wave cutting position and allow greater use of the engine trim. I did a report on here when I fitted mine. Adam

    Galley Update

A gas stove?? We looked into an invertor (not a microwave) for JV and decided against it - to be of any real use a big unit was needed, but Bob would tell you in more detail. Personally I wouldnt bother on a day boat - stick with a simple gas ring / stove / cooker.
  4. How?? This sounds dodgy... do you mean temporary doel fins? If you mean temp trim tabs, how will you do that? Persoanlly, I'd suggest a power issue, as 130hp should be more than enough to plane the boat - unless it is heavier than it should be, i.e water logged, and than tabs will be a temp cure, and not really solving the main problem.... Its hard to tell over the internet.

Well done Brian - great news! I'd love the trailer, perfect for when JV needs to come out, but I cant really justify having it sat round for one use a year - it's a cracking trailer though. Have you put it on the trailer section of boats and outboards?
  6. Neal's reply sums it up for me - not actually taming the fish, but fishing the lead. Was proven on Sun when the tide dropped and we swung away from the wreck, I was fishing a 12lb class no problem at all - 7000 sized reel and 6oz lead. Reels are also crucial - sure my 20/30 Abu will handle 1.5 or 2lb of lead but winching that and a big squid bait up from 100' takes it's toll on the gears.
  7. Brilliant!!
  8. It's not that extreme surely? Water over 100' with 2lb leads is pretty common what sat on the hook around here? Yep, seriously hence this post - change my views on this.... What would you use then?
  9. Done - takes about 1 min.
  10. Thanks Dan - I'm talking rods that pair up with a TLD 20/25 size reel and will easily handle 2lb of lead in 100'+ of water - so quite specialist tools as not used that often, just wondered what others used.
  11. My current weapons of choice for big fish (deep water wreck conger, big tide blonde ray and sharking) are a pair of 7' 50lb class tippy action Abu Conolons. The plus side is that they seem to give plenty of leaverage (but are hard work) and are tippy/fast actiion with tons of backbone (as opposed to the old fashioned through action) Anyway - Ive seen the short 5' stand-up style rods, and guess that these are easier to wrok, but give less leaverage? I'm not sure what is best? What do others think, and what do others use?
  12. Just had a quick look. In principle it's worth a look. Cheap, all the features you need and flexible. It says its 10 mins from the golf course, which would make it about 30 min walk or 15 min cycle to the harbour. Bear in mind the island is far, far from flat! I'd say a taxi is the way to go - time is tight when you get on land after a day at sea.

Easy one - 75hp, no questions. I had a 50hp on mine first time round, it was too small and struggled to plane the boat when fully loaded. When I upgraded I put a 60hp on, which was better but a fast cruise meant running the revs quite high. Gordon Moore (Manic Moore) who has Enticer, has a 75hp Etec on his - and it is superb. The 4 strokes are quieter on tick over, but when running they are about the same. The 75hp Etec pushes the Warrior along effortlessly and is frugal on fuel. If you cant find / get an Etec or want a 4 stroke then either a Suzuki or Honda in that order. Hope that helps. Adam

Best of luck with the sale Brian. I dont think you'll get the same 'arguments' on here if you ask for boat advice! Warrior 165, Raider 18, MF580 etc - ask away, there is as much experiance on here as over on WSF without all the crap! Adam
  15. I guessed A for the record Bob - soon as you thought my earlier on was a fluke!
  16. Pete, I for one appluade you and your work. I must admit to being a little confused by the whole situaton. Not having alot of spare time, I find it hard to keep up to date with who is saying what, but it is alot of comfort to have someone such as yourself to speak on out behalf. I try where and when I can to lobby MP's other others that I need to. Paradoxically, I also side with some of what Tom and others say - it really is a whole nightmare which effects, what should be a gentle and basic pastime! Well done. Adam
  17. Ah-ha! I knew about about this stuff than I thought.... or is it all common sense??

    ais

... and if it isnt, and it is with a Lowrance I'll have it!
  19. Brilliant!! Well done. I agree - a wider audiance would be beneficial, although I'm sure this will spread like wildfire! It's just gone off to Burnham.....

    AIS

As soon as it will plug and play on the Lowrance kit I'll add it - until then, I dont want a seperate unit. It isnt too expensive is it?
  21. Woaah.... too much for me. Vaiguely remember doing this stuff about 12 years ago.....

    AIS

What do you think of AIS on a small boat Graham? It sounds good and I like the system - but is it better than radar / worth have with a radar? How much and where from? Can I interface it with my Lowrance kit?
  23. This is how I use a multi-meter..... 1 - Find multimeter 2 - Turn on 3 - Find mobile phone 4 - Ring Bob 5 - Bob comes over 6 - Picks up multi-meter and does ti for me. I havnt got a clue so would like to learn!
  24. Not good Charlie, hope it's not serious and gets sorted? Keep us posted?
  25. I suspect the difference between 'most effective' and 'best' may be different?
