Hi Graham Even though the weather was a bit breezy when we arrived at the boat the overall opinion was to go for it and head to the island. Obviously with the bigger craft we have a larger window of opportunity but we still put faith in the forecast, that gave a slight lull then a swing in the breeze towards the south. The breeze swung a little. We set off at three to make the run in daylight it took 30 mins loger than going as we deliberatly headed 10 degrees north of course to make the ride better. it flattened nearer to shore so we corrected then. Charlie

We were out yesterday Decided that we would go to the car park, but had considered staying nearer to Poole. Glad that we didn't, as all reports seem to indicate it was much slower there. Mind you the needles area was rather bouncy and we had to take it steady on the way home. Shame that the weather finished up nothing like the original forecast of a few days ago, let hope that does not happen again for Sunday. Charlie

What a nice break in the weather Craig called me and easily talked me into a run out. 0715 saw us laving the Marina anchor was going down at 0815 By the time we settled down more and more boats were arriving, several were Club boats over from Poole for a spot of Poaching to the East of Club waters. It started oK with several bites as we got used to fishing amongst the red weed again, a small Cod was followed by a pou that had its whole stomach section removed by a Conger that missed both hooks. We got a fiesty conger to the boat that proved a little tricky to T bar In the easing tide more pout , Lsd and a few whiting and shed loads of weed kept us interested/busy. [i am so glad we do not get that weed neerer to home] To be honest fishing was slow, but at least that gave me time to fry the bacon and keep the teapot hot. Nigel you deserve that smell on the breeze, for the text picture you sent me on Tuesday A few more fish would have been nice, but other boats including charters were having a slow time so we persisted. 1600 and time for home with just 1 small Cod and a few whiting. It was a nice day to be out Craig and his son Ashley were great company, we will try again soon. Charlie

Dave it would be good to know if these fish extend to the closer marks yet. It is a much shorter run and not bad if you only have 5 hrs or so. If weather is not good tomorrow we may try to find out. Charlie

Marks problem can sometimes be the main one with SS props. If they hit something they do not bend easily, so either the bush goes or worse the spline can twist. Bushes can also go due to the additional weight and inertia of the prop. Charlie

I would like to say a huge well done to the Organisers, Sponsors and Anglers that all made yesterday a success. It is hard enough to run an Open without poor weather. To have to postpone 4 times, and persevere to get it sorted is a really great effort. Well done also to all that supported the event by fishing or helping with the jobs ashore. Alfie you may be aware, that not only does the rope have to fit the windlass but if it is fitted with a chain gypsy it has to have calibrated chain as well. The rope chain splice is a bit special but not too difficult as long as its a three ply rope. I could help you with that if you wish. Charlie

Lofty They are the stable diet of cod, its well reported that they make a good live bait for them, but to be honest I have never had much luck. We tend only to keep a few of the bigger ones, [1.5lb plus] for the table. But any over 1lb are good to eat In the open next week we will be running on a minimum size at the scales of 50% specimen size , for whiting that will be 1lb 12oz Charlie

Lofty definatly whiting or "Channels" Very good eating and prefered by some to cod we usually try to only keep a few larger ones over 1.5 lb as they are best fresh. 20 in the Kayak is a good catch well done.
