  2. I hear that Prodigy is going to join in As Alfresco is currently hiding in the big shed at work, she is ready to launch but could do with a bit more polishing. I may blag a trip with Gary, Big Bob's old floundering partner [and he has a heater] to see if I can remember how to catch some flounders. Charlie
  3. Looks a cracker mate I had better let you have your bait dropper back I am sure Annie would like some antifoul for Christmas Or maybe a few anodes suitable for brackish water Charlie

  5. Nice report mate So glad to hear that you had a couple of fish for tea while the rest of us were at work NOT Well done Charlie
  6. Well done Martin Good of Phil to respond and no doubt it has put some of our warrior owners minds at rest. The deck I changed was on an older dory that had suffered water damage via various screws and fixings. Hard to stop water inress especially if the boat has stood uncovered for long periods. Had we known that this boat was a Mk1, 12 years old no doubt the replies would have been differant. Charlie

    History?

There are some classics in here. 1. Years ago a History teacher collected errors from the students papers and strung together a wacky view of World History.... The inhabitants of Egypt were called mummies. They lived in the Sarah Dessert and traveled by Camelot. The climate of the Sarah is such that the inhabitants have to live elsewhere, so certain areas of the dessert are cultivated by irritation. The Egyptians built the Pyramids in the shape of a huge triangular cube. The Pyramids are a range of mountains between France and Spain. The Bible is full of interesting caricatures. In the first book of the Bible, Guinesses, Adam and Eve were created from an apple tree. One of their children, Cain, asked
  8. Hi Terry I think your move is good mate, the tides suit those dates and the weather is a lottery whatever dates we pick. From replies to my earlier thread the members seem to be as keen as ever to make our annual trip over in May, This far ahead I can not be sure who would crew with me and therefore do not know what accomadation we need. Perhaps you could pencil in two places for Alfresco crew. I would think that at this sort of notice your contact on the Island will be happy to have bookings for the accomadation, what is their cancelation policy? I am fairly sure that others like me will not be going unless the forecast is better than it was last year. Charlie
  9. Thanks for the replies guys 2 years ago in Alderney I had an absolute demonstration of how a shiny pipe type pirk attracted the launce. It made a huge differance Plain lead no launce, shiny pirk loads last winter I made a few and this year they have caught bass pollack mackerel launce and even a turbot on the shambles. Some Club boats use pirks and get a fair number of pollack and Cod on them. I started to have a look into this after seeing some great youtube moments. Three things to consider 1. I have never enjoyed pirking, [and I think that they spook the fish.] 2. The cost of the jigs, if they get lost as often as pirks 3. It looks like hard work, if all it does is attract a few pollock any more thoughts? Charlie
  10. Hi all as usual at this time of year, the weather is keeping me from going fishing and I keep on getting asked what I want for Christmas. So I start having a look around the internet and following up on a bit of an idea that I may have a look into using speed jigs over wrecks in the summer. When you look at Shimano ones the price of them is bad enough to simply forget it, but there are many on ebay and such that are about a fiver. I know that abroad they have huge success with these and tend to use specialised kit, but I intended to try with my normal rod and reels for now. Has anyone tried it? Did it work? Or is it just a hard work way of catching a few more pollack? Charlie
  11. I read this with interest only really. I have never owned a warrior. But having changed decks in previous boats I know what a pain it is. I would have thought that although your boat is out of Warranty, the builder could be approached regarding the build quality and the materials used. The use of sterling board for anything on a boat is one cost cutting excercise to far IMHO.. As the boat is now believed to be over 12 years old , I doubt very much that it was sterling board, just plywood with some sort of hidden joint. I had problems with an engine just out of warranty a year ago, but Volvo supplied parts at a very good discount as a "Good Will" gesture. If Warrior can offer nothing else, perhaps you could approach them from that angle. materials and gelcoat? Charlie
  12. I can see why you are getting annoyed, but no point using caps lock to make your point on here, its Warrior that need to get the message. That said I am sure our Warrior owners are more than interested. Ref the Warranty, if the boat has not been made correctly using methods and materials advertised by them I would think that there could be some come back on the builder. Good luck Charlie
  13. Well done Chris You certainly did better than we did on Sunday Charlie

Welcome Gino and very tight lines tomorrow. Charlie
  15. Great to see that you are back Trev The fish can stand by now. Or will have too when you get fed up with the playing Hell of a day for a sea full power trial Charlie
  16. Very interesting to read the last two posts Bait running out , reduced size of baits and then success Currently we are using baits far bigger than we would have only a few years ago, and some hook rigs that are so big that they prevent doggies and such taking them [Nigle you know what I mean] But are we doing the right thing? We can not be doing too much wrong, as it worked a few days ago , but it does raise an interesting point. Well done to all that caught Cod [Oh yes and PB Bass Craig ] especially the three over the magic 20lb mark. Charlie
  17. What a day that was a run out into a lumpy sea in fog One of the crew ill as soon as the anchor went down, but to his credit he did not want us to stop fishing. We sat waiting for hours for just a few bits and pieces and a couple of very small congers, constantly changing baits and removing weed We counted over 70 boats in view at one point, so the scent trail was well spread Eventually we tried a move in an attempt to get a bit calmer for the sake of Stu, but I parked at the dogs home. They enjoyed the fourth box of squid of the day, and were about as popular as the red weed. By 4 It was time to head in early for everyones sake Not the best trip ever, well done to the other boats that found some cod. We really felt for the lads on the smaller boats yesterday in that weather. Lets hope for some calmer weather soon Charlie
  18. Hi Dave I have found it better in the breezy weather to stay in an area with some tide, especially when wind and tide are togerther. You may finish up fishing off to one side as she will not stay exactly nose into the tide but at least you can fish and do not swing all over the place. That swing of the wind helped us get back from the car park without beating directly into the weather. Charlie
  19. I upgraded Great White not long before I sold her to Lowrance I liked the idea of two sets so had the 4" FF and 5" Global Map colour plotter. On Alfresco I have just one combined unit, again a lowrance its a 10" set. Now replaced with teh HD set nigle has onboard. To be honest I thought I would have added another in 4 years but have not as this one does all I want it to do. There are obvious drawbacks to a single unit, but they are compensated by the recordability of sonar, the size of the screen and the ability to play back at home and get GPS numbers off of the playback. and of course the ability to record and back up info such as marks routes etc on to an SD card. On that point Paul, I know that you lost all of your info when the bastards nicked your kit, but I have some that we have shared before written down, you are of course welcome to them when you need them. Charlie
  20. Hi Graham Even though the weather was a bit breezy when we arrived at the boat the overall opinion was to go for it and head to the island. Obviously with the bigger craft we have a larger window of opportunity but we still put faith in the forecast, that gave a slight lull then a swing in the breeze towards the south. The breeze swung a little. We set off at three to make the run in daylight it took 30 mins loger than going as we deliberatly headed 10 degrees north of course to make the ride better. it flattened nearer to shore so we corrected then. Charlie
  21. We were out yesterday Decided that we would go to the car park, but had considered staying nearer to Poole. Glad that we didn't, as all reports seem to indicate it was much slower there. Mind you the needles area was rather bouncy and we had to take it steady on the way home. Shame that the weather finished up nothing like the original forecast of a few days ago, let hope that does not happen again for Sunday. Charlie
  22. Well done Guys It was a tad lumpy even today when originally they were giving great weather. Nigel you did not want to put him on your marks then Well done Chris 6th out of 180 is good going indeed. Charlie
