  1. Alfresco will be going if the weather plays ball and if I can get crew probably with the plan discussed on here so plenty of variety leave Poole early Friday , return late Sunday at the moment I have at least one space available It will mean sleeping ashore Friday in Alderney and Sat in Cherbourg anyone interested you know the drill call, PM or add to this thread Charlie
  2. Nice report and pictures Dave Thanks
  3. Peter it was great to meet you and Matt It was nice to get to know you a bit over the trip, over the odd pint. and do not worry about getting close mate , in those conditions it was no problem. Your boat is an impressive bit of kit with excellent sea keeping qualities for her size Glad you got back OK I expect like us you may be tempted back over in a few weeks if the weather is better. Charlie
  4. I have booked the time off this afternoon And also had a look at the tides that seem as you say a tad smaller than last weekend. I will have to firm up on the crew I too will not go twice in one summer on that forecast are we thinking the same? early start Fri, stop only for bait, then to schole via races [tide changes at noon] up for fuel speedy time is about 1645 [comp start time] Sat after breakfast East to wrecks/reefs en route tide would be against. but if we leave early we get a push past C de le Hague Slack is 0730 If you fish banks for the morning Sat the tide goes back in our favour to head west at 1330 Sat, [could fish en route] Sun Slack off Cherbourg about 0830 I would like to anchor a lump at slack that is about 20 miles out on the way home then go drifting It all looks like hard fishing and some early starts only possible on a good forecast Craig love the french mate For Members like me In google translate they read "Poole is my world, so no need now for a passport, if the time arises when I want to go further a field, can I apply for a passport, but thank you Adam" "Neil Bristol people should not need a passport to visit any country in our place and for the bridge, it depends on your side of town, our should I say the head of planning." "Craig just get a passport and stop being stupid you will need to follow your buddy boat Wight Magic everywhere in France!" "Craig, As a Boy Scout, always be prepared"
  5. Duncan The water taxi was great mate, they simply charged
  6. Well done guys Great report, nice pictures and good angling chaps, you certainly did fish ard. We were a little subdued for various reasons this trip, so you can Borrow "first out last in", which is normally our tag. Windy Weather aside it was all very enjoyable, and we are already discussing what we can do in one months time. With hopefully a fully fit crew Thanks for your company Charlie
  7. Hi Mate very glad that you enjoyed the 4 day trip, caught so many of your favorite fish and the trophy got home safe Also nce to meet Ashley and see how much he was enjoying it all. None of us enjoyed the ride home, but it was great that all had taken the precautions and well intended advice and stayed in constant touch. its the first time we have done it on Alfresco without a fishing stop, Dave and I had thought we may sneek a few drifts half way home and let you overtake us, but it was not going to happen in those seas. we went there and back without managing to make a brew of tea, another first on Alfresco. Charlie
  8. Nice one Jas Enjoy the boat and good fishing Charlie
  9. Welcome Martin With a thread title like that I think that you may have come to the right Club Join in as much as possible and you will get plenty back from the Club and its Members Charlie
  10. Morning just woke Sam, first thing he said was " Have you even been asleep dad" LETS GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Charlie
  11. Thanks Graham I hope that it is a good game and the correct outcome for you Charlie
  12. That's good Tom and Craig Tom are you going to be Water Taxi when we roll down the hill from the Marais Hall If you are up early and have your phone, give us a bell for a weather update. Charlie
  13. I can not believe that I am up an hour before my alarm goes off and a day early just to check weather sites again. Peter PM me your email address and I will forward you some info passed to other crews and a probable RV mid channel several of us are leaving Poole at about 7, so in good weather would be there at about 0900-0930 depending if we stop for bait. Or give me a call later 07887 794716 Charlie
  14. Just text Sam to say we are currently looking at going, as long as we have at least one buddy boat. Thur, Fri looks fishable, Sat should also be ok and we may well be looking at a return Sat evening dependant on the weather forecast for sunday as it gets nearer. I will now have a bit to do to get fueled, loaded, baited up etc, so lets hope that weather gods do their bit too. Of course we still reserve the right to change our call, if the weather changes. But Sam is coming home tomorrow, and we are all keen to get going Charlie
  15. Fed up with sitting here checkiing weather reports, I thought I would look at the Aldeney Angling catch reports Even more depressed now that I may not make it over, with constant good fishing being recorded. Then a thought struck me, that their quarry seems to hold some fun fish, and may offer somthing other than drinking if the boats can not get out. Now you could write on a stamp what I know about course or fly fishing, But if we go and someone wants to take a rod and an absolute beginner to the quarry It may be fun Rather be at speedy though Charlie
  16. Usually refered too as the "Olympic Torch" which is something else that "never goes out" Charlie
  17. I hate the indesision of the forcasts this may help, but still no definate pattern http://www.weathercharts.org/ukmomslp.htm Charlie We still want to go, but sense may have to prevail as Sam has to go back to the Navy on monday.
  18. Sorry to lose you Steve, I was looking forward to meeting you at last and talking in the evenings again. I also need to make a decision for the sake of my crew as Sam has time off from the Navy and they tend to like some notice, especially if we are going at a later date. So my call will probably be made tomorrow evening Charlie
  19. Derek We as a Club addressed that many years ago Except for the open, and our flounder comp [when we encourage anglers to try to bring fish alive to the scales] all of our other comps are taken on weights done by our members on their boats. While this can never be 100% accurate as differant scales are used, it is done on trust so that all fish can be released if the Member wishes to. Charlie
  20. well said Peter I must state that you lead by example. After our recent bream trip we too 8 [and I has six of those] from a catch well in excess of 60. Plus a few mackeral and both rays went back. The reason I find WSF hard to swallow at times, is their anglers constant need to show how many they took. and a need to belittle all that like to catch and release. If we want good sport in the future we all need to do our bit. Charlie
  21. Hi again sometimes with jigging/hopping you just have to accept that not all fish get hooked correctly, some are just nicked and during the fight they get off. we have seen a few get to the net like that so it certainly happens. If however you are losing them and others with stiffer rods are not you may want to change rods. I usually use a kensaki 12-20, but itf I am using bigger hooks or losing fish I sometimes change to my 20-30. Nigle I must be a tart too, as I have a new shiny gold avetSX just waiting for line ready for the much awaited alderney trip. Charlie
  22. After talking to Chris Tett outside the Marais Hall last year we adoted and stuck to that principle We still took fish home and will be looking to do so again this year Charlie
  23. Good to see you last night Nige. I hope that you do not have to keep saving fuel and taking your wife shopping for much longer. Charlie
  24. Oh I don't know Neal, looks as though it would put up a pretty good fight with a 10/0 in it I can probably still put up a bit of a struggle , even without the 10/0 and you wanted some numbers and tips Bloody cheeky these grockles Charlie
  25. Oli can you give me some idea of what you intend fishing for and how Ie, wrecking, flatfish drifiting, Bass tope etc I may be able to PM you some info Charlie
