  1. OOps forgot I will lighten the mood when I can post the video footage Toms laughing policman impression when a line parted is well worth listening too , I wish I had the skill to edit it to play it back over and over as Dan does using the camera. and Tom's tiptoe around the conger in flip flops is also worth a look. as soon as I can I will try and get it on here, I may brin it over to you Tom Charlie
  2. Hi Duncan/Neal When I talked to Tom last week about trying to get him out fishing while his boat is in for repair, he said he would love to come on a general offshore trip. With the hope to get his line pulled by a weighty fish and also maybe a go at cod/pollack. I offered him a trip at the weekend when the weather gave us a green light for both days, even if it meant it would have to be at short notice if he could change Abbeys mind. When he did get the go ahead he booked in for the comp even before he could confirm with me, {we were offshore] I expect he hoped for a large specimen, but also wanted too support Adams request for more Members to take part. [ better not get on to that subject ] This is just background I know Tom can give and take stick, he got enough on Sunday and I will leave that too him But I wonder that if these fish are so average where the above average ones are? [answers on a post card please phone ,e mail anything Please ] I make no excuse or secret that the boys and I enjoy congering : , but in all the years I have done so, I have never managed to get over a wreck that produces fish to make these mediocre. [62lb is my PB by the way] That includes fishing large comps and conger championships in weymouth and Plymouth when it had a reputation for the odd 100lb eel. That aside its only fishing and its only for fun. We don't fish for eels for badges or trophies we do it because they fight back. and they go back well afterwards Tom I would love to join you as soon as Dan and the boys have sorted that engine. If it drags on, you are more than welcome on Alfresco, Duncan you are also welcome any time. Charlie
  3. Dan have a look at the Bayzand range through Alderney angling on his mail order pages. Mark has a good selection of artificials Charlie
  4. I have heard that said many times by a few Members, and no doubt its a friendly tongue in cheek comment. But I put the record list together a few years ago, using information from the catch recording book that was started when the Club was first formed in I believe 1992. and those two meadiocre eels are the two best in all that time. Tom caught them on balanced kit using a lot of angling skill and competitive or not has IMHO earned the right to talk about it. Charlie
  5. Sure looks like you needed a good fish this year to get into the top 10 no matter the top three spots. well done all I look forward to seeing the final results Charlie

  11. Brilliant mate Well done Charlie
  12. Alun, Not possible to win more than 1 as you can only count best specimen Never seen first and second, but I would have done 1st and 3rd before if that had been allowed. Not sure if my best was 35lb conger or 15oz herring [Which equals the Club record BTW, so I suppose we had three on the boat this weekend] I am sure Tom wont mind sharing that with me LOL not a fair swap Adam please advise on herring Dans was 30lb eel Thanks Charlie

    reapir

Adam One thing you will need to know is, to get gelcoat to set hard you need to exclude air On a small repair that is easy by putting tape over the gel and leave it to go off. on bigger repairs 2% styrene wax is added, this come to the surface and keeps air out. Profesionals take great time and effort to match colours so that after flattening and smoothing with various grades of wet and dry the repair can not be seen and no need for painting. on newer boats gelcoat can be obtained from the makers to match hope that helps Charlie

    Knots

There is also the double grinner knot, search for it on youtube and a guy [Mike???] runs through it in detail and then also the allbright. Or look on WSF search J knot, I have yet to try that one but it looks simple enough. Charlie
  16. Nice fish mate well done Charlie
  17. Great report Tom Been to tired to do one yet. 4 very good fish and a bloody good day. Dan and I now have a reason to try harder. Still not sure about the footwear, but you moved quick when they got near to the tope or eels Well done on the New Club record, thats the second time we have broken one twice in a day, last year it was turbot. Charlie
  18. I Texted Adam a couple of times today They had a couple of drifts to break up the trip and a few pollack to about 10lb. and then on to the banks by about 11. I believe JV had 5 Turbot and a brill on the banks today in about 4 hrs and are there all day tomorrow. Sounds fun Charlie

  25. I am still looking for a good PC system that I can use at home when passage/trip planning. I use mapcreate to load/save info to from my plotter and thats much easier than putting marks in on the plotter. I also use sonar viewer to replay the recordings taken through the Lowrance combo unit, again that is great But I would love to be able to get Navionics gold info on Mapcreate or simular. I am considering getting PC plotter, as it uses navionics . With laptop, 12 volt adaptor, navionics card and gps ariel it would be another plotter with AIS. I have downloaded the demo, and as its the solent Isle of wight it does show what this can do and it does look impressive on the large monitor in my study. just need to justify the cost now!! If anyone knows of a cost effective way of getting this facility on a PC please let me know. Charlie
