  14. Had been meaning for a while to try to catch my first squid , conditions today looked right from the info i'd managed to dig up -not much moon or tide so headed out from wick at 3 pm ish with Phil V. who d been up at the crack of dawn shore fishing for bass in the purbecks with some success. Plan was to try and find some mackerel for bass live bait and hopefully winter bait for the freezer as this was probably going to be the last chance to get some mackerel this year.Met PJ on the way out who told us where the few still around were hiding , but we struggled to catch just five in a couple of hours, all of which were exactly where PJ had directed us, not the usual spot. Phil had attaches a lure to the end of his feathers and when he pulled up a titchy little squid about 2 inches long on the lure, i switched to the squid gear, The plan had been to hang a spot light over the side but the light decided not to work so i used a weight with a small flashing led lightl just below the jig. Had a take within 10 minutes as dusk began to fall and up comes sidney squid ,about a foot long.We fished on till about 8 without success but keen to try again and if any members have any experience or knowledge of targeting squid would be grateful if they could post

    Squid

i was planning an evening trip from christchurch to target them in next few days and would welcome company, alternatively if any of you trailering to weymouth i would join you. Never tried jigging for them before, does Weymouth fish much better than Christchurch/Southbourne?
  18. hi Alun sorry never saw your post for crew( no easy pc access in bournemouth) otherwise would have called. Like you was freelining one rod float the other had a bass on each. Was able to anchor right over the bream spot and although the fish were smaller than last time i was there in the early summer they were plentiful until i lost my berkley thingie. On subject of groundbaiting should mention that was bassing couple of weeks ago and when i opened up my tea found the stomach full of the maccy chunks Gordon M. had chopped up minutes earlier Les
