Could this be achieved and does anyone currently drift for tope or is it all done at anchor, was thinking of a 75ft sliding 4oz float kit with flappered haverst maccy, 2oz shoudl keep him down near bottom but not sink drifting whitehouse grounds 80-100ft deep, any opinions on this, what should my max drift speed be?

Snuck out a 18:30 after low water, managed 15 bream to 2 1/2lb, 6 doggies to 2lb, 7 pout to 1 1/2lb, a 2lb smut and a 1 3/4lb bass all on the same mark, Nick missed a good run on half a maccy. A landing craft was out in the bay when we came back in at 11ish. No fishing this weekend as of to prague on stag do Thursday-Sunday!

I think I must of had the float slightly over depthed sometimes you cant get out of the course fishing habits!

After a poor start, crew (Me) leaving bait on the pontoon went out me and nick managed just over 30 bream to over 2lb, doggies, pout, wrasse and a 2 1/2lb codling on float kit! missed some big hits on maccy baits, maybe small tope? but couldnt find the maccy on feathers. Also had a trawler less than 1/4 mile from us. Cracking day

I was missing a lot of bream bites on size 2 circle hooks and got informed that my hooklength was too long, Mike at UK hooks suggested 10-12 inches instead of the 5ft I use, anyone else use circle hooks and what hook length do they use?

fished whitehouse gorunds thursday evening, doggies, doggies, pout, doggies, pout, etc etc... I managed a 3lb 8oz bream on rag with squid tip. saw the dolphins again just of the training bank, hope they are not eating all the mackerel!

We managed to bag 12 small wrasse to 1lb, 3 cuckoo wrasse to 3/4lb, 9 pout to 1/2lb, a dozen bream to 3lb, a pollack and 4 gobies. No maccy on feathers and no doggies. "Ow Much" was out she just come back from "9miles from the lighthouse?" and had had tope to 22lb

Must of been alot of them as at some times saw 3-4 breaking the surface doing the porpoise thing we was sat at anchor @ 1/2 E-SE of outer patch and they came along they were @100 yds of the boat, tried to take pictures but that was a fruitless exercise. Think porpoises as they were darker, really messed up the fishing @1/2hr before and after they came through, we have had them closer to the boat in Feb @50ft away from boat!

We are looking at buying some digital scales anyone know if these are any good and any accurate/cheap ones to get think

There was also another group of boats following the pourpoises around

Minced out sunday morning to west of the outer patch. Dogfish, dogfish, dogfish oh and some more dogfish managed to haul 3 up on a pennel rig and also caught some more dogfish biggest was 2lb 8oz (mine). Caught some maccy on feathers and had some gar follow bait up but none taken. Also managed a 1lb dab (mine)on worm bait, went really well for its size. Nick had a cuttlefish. Nice day but no bream unfortunately. Is great using fresh maccy bait as well. Next trip hopefully on tuesday. Also didnt lose any tackle for a change!

Fished canford cliffs with nick last night hoping for some big swale and a big tide run for some bass, alas was realitively flat so could of perhaps snuck out on boat? Anyway I managed a plaice and 2 schoolies. Thought the plaice was a ray as there was a spider crab on the bottom hook and the plaice on the top doh! Nick although having bites blanked.

Friday evening fished outer patch was looking pretty poor then.... Nick has a 4lb 4oz ballan wrasse, followed by some bream of which he has a 4lb (PB) and 3lb 3oz, alas I only managed a 3lber we also both lost some better fish maybe the magical 5lber? We also forget to take our live peeler crabs which may of produced some bigger specimens!. We had loads of other bream all betwen 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 lb and some more wrasse, pout and doggies. Sun Eve was not as productive with only a couple of bream to 2 1/2lb, doggies, pout and 2 gobies on the same mark. Monday day went to evans rock where we had only 5 bream biggest 2lb, 1 doggie and a mackerel, weather was a bit wet but was flat enough to fish. Was a large naval vessel out in the bay also.

Heard of some bass to 4lb falling to shads in the harbour last year. We use a diving vane and feathers /lures for mackerel in the summer. Picked up mackerel and schoolies on a chug plug last year drifting hook sands.

Ben I would suggest following other boats to start with. Poole Patch will be like a car park at the weekend depending on the weather and you can get bream, wrasse, pout and doggies and is a good place to start. The gully was to the west and is about 100ft deep with 80ft on either side make sure you have enough anchor rope etc etc. The Barfleur and Condors pass quite close here under alot of power and push a big wake so be careful. It may be best to fish the patch until you are confident with the boat and work out the equipment you require also there are alot of other boats there if you get into any difficulties, break down etc.

Fishing at anchor we use:- Running leger light a weight as possible, 6ft trace 12-15lb line as then you have a small knot if feeding bait (rag worm/peeler) up the hook(bead or no beads, if use beads and flashy stuff when bait been robbed and you reel in may hook into a mackerel or garfish or bream), size 1/0's (if using peeler can hook into smoothies if about) 3/0 if no small bait robbing bream about or targeting smoothies as well. If at anchor sometimes you have no bites but when move the bait you get a take straight afterwards!

Started of friday evening fishing outer patch had 25 bream between 1 1/2- 2 1/2 lb and wrasse doggies pout and a huge scorpion fish Saturday decided to shoot out further to get away from the traffic and invariably other people fishing so shot out to a gully on edge of whithouse grounds a nice 8lb blonde ray on first drop then a mixture of wrasse, pout and doggies, biggest pout going to 3lb 4oz Sunday hangover after a party Monday took day off and went to whitehouse ground managed plaice, doggies, pout, wrasse, pollack (3lb) a lonely mackerel then on slack water managed 7 garfish to 1lb 4oz on a 1/2 oz float kit fished at 30ft. Nick managed a double header when one was on the hook and another one get tangled around the beads! SUMMERS HERE!!!

One of my dad's work colleagues has an Arvor 20 and because of where the fuel cap is managed to get water into his fuel tank and ended up being towed back in, he brought the boat second hand and it looks as is the thread to the fuel tank had been worn away (most probably brute force by previous owner rather than over use) luckily the filters did their bit so only new ones were required oh and a new fuel cap section. Just thought let people know if they have fuel caps in a similar place on the stern or are looking at second hand arvor/quicksilver boats of this type.

After not being able to fish the comp on sunday as nick was in hospital, (he was freed on sunday pm) and looking at forecast while sat at work looking over holes bay decided to take afternoon off and me and nick went for some of these early bream, anyway monster swale (quite long so not to uncomfortable) we picked a mark to the west of poole middle patch. Was wind against tide against swale so so boat was swinging about all other the place and managed nothing. Then True Blue II came in and was drifing a couple of hundred yards away so with a boost in our confidence we moved mark and we had nothing and then some time later when deciding if it was worth drifting the swash we had bites hoorah!! anyway managed 5 doggies and a smoothhound between us. Lots of missed bites which think were small doggies?

Blanked yesterday after trying the patch, swash and harbour. Was fun in the mist drifting the swash infront of the Barfleur (Joke!) Glad had chart plotter to come back through harbour with and the compass was a huge help!

Thank you Adam for offering your services, however I gave it a bash last night:- Have inserted a 6 inch section of an old spinning rod into the rod after trimming back 1inch either side fo the break slotted in lovely on the top section but a bit lose on the bottom so built it up with araldite for a snug fit, then glued it in. Luckily the break is just below the 2nd eye so the rod action will not be comprised. Just have to whip(insultaion tape temporary to spread the load at the joint). loaded her up with a dead weigth and she seemed pukka. New rod turns up today fingers crossed so will keep this one as a spare.

My Shimano Ultegra uptide rod decided to break half way along the top section while trying to get out of a lock down on sunday, do I a: Canabilise an old rod and put a section inside the broken rod and glue it together or b: Buy a new rod (have recently brought a Abu 20-30 Sauveron Pro and 7000c3 so would find it hard to justify the expenditure) If anyone has carried out any repairs similar to this any advice would be appreciated!

Went bait digging last night due to big tides to try to get some worms Managed 1 1/2lb of rag (bigger than ones getting from bait supplier recently with some cracking big-uns in there), 30 whites and some lug in just over an hour. The lug were not the usual yellow tails but were pink/orangey in colour and @2-3inches long, are these any good for bait and does anyone know what type of lug they are? Is it me but some other bait digger came along and started digging 10yds away from me when there was no one else bait digging down there, why couldnt of he moved 50 or so yds up or down from me!

Do you spoon with the drift or uptide?
