  1. Cheers Guys, I must be getting old, I only sank one pint last night and I drove, even the old man drank more than me. I have ear marked friday night for a session down the pub though so I am sure I can make up for it! Charlie you are right not even I am venturing out in this weather to go fishing, might give the beaches a bash after this blow though, a bit of surf to stir things up normaly brings the fish in, mind you this time of year I dont hold out to much hope Cheers again guys.
  2. If anyone is looking for a walkaround type sports boat can vouch for her as being a decent boat having had a few trips out on her. She is in very good condition.
  3. Competion Postponed Until 27th January I have just spoken to Alan at castaways and the flounder competition has been postponed due to the weather forecast. It will now be held on Sunday the 27th. Signing in is as before with entry forms to be received by Saturday 26th.
  4. Castaways flounder competition is on sunday the 12th. You need to register by the friday I think, phone tim or alan at the shop 739202 or you can pop in and pick up an entry form.
  5. Hi Steve, Looking at your avatar I think you boat name is very apt, great photo.
  6. Well done to the all the organisers and those that helped the day run smoothly! A great competition with a superb prize table and excellent raffle. Great to be able to raise money for a good cause and good to see Spike at the prize giving too.
  7. Well done Neal, Perseverance paid off in the end. Like you say just need to do that in one of the competitions next year.
  8. I received a reply from DEFRA to an email I sent off a couple of weeks ago today. Copied below; Dear Mr Burt, Southern Sea Fisheries Committee Thank you for your email of 29 November to Jonathan Shaw about the impact of a Southern Sea Fisheries Committee (SFC) byelaw on the activities of charter angling vessels. I have been asked to reply. The background to this issue is a byelaw introduced in 1996 by Southern SFC which prohibits any vessel over 12 metres fishing within the District. Inshore fisheries management in England and Wales is the responsibility of SFCs and other SFCs have similar byelaws in place. We have spoken with the SFC about the concerns that you and others have brought to our attention. We understand from the SFC that it has recently come to their attention that, since introducing the byelaw, a number of charter vessels over 12 metres in length are operating in the District. The SFC has written to angling businesses in the area to make them aware of the byelaw. Although byelaws require confirmation from the Secretary of State (SoS), Defra has no powers to direct SFCs in the conservation and management of their local fisheries. The SoS does have powers to revoke byelaws but we need to be careful in exercising these powers: to do so in this case, for example, could open the District to larger commercial fishing vessels with potentially serious implications for stocks and habitats. I understand the operation of the byelaw is to be discussed at the next Committee meeting in January. Meetings of the Committee are open to members of the public though there may be restrictions on who can speak. We hope that a solution that is proportionate and practical can be identified by the SFC. In the meantime, if you have not already done so, I suggest you also raise your concerns direct with the Clerk and Chief Fishery Officer to the Committee, Mr Ian Carrier whose contact details are below: 64 Ashley Road Poole Dorset BH14 9BN Tel: 01202 721373 Mr Carrier would also be able to advise you of the arrangements for the next Committee meeting if you would like to attend. I hope that this letter addresses your concerns. Yours sincerely, J B Perse Customer Contact Unit Defra
  9. Happy birthday Neal, Hope you have had a goodun. Dont let that weather get you down, it just makes the good weather even better. if we ever get any
  10. Fished Holton Heath off the beach this afternoon, no flounder but had 5 or 6 schoolies. Had to wet a line one way or another.
  11. I thought it was quite funny, but then I am still drunk from last night
  12. What a result, thats great fishing, well done!
  13. yes I nice fish and I was well chuffed, just a shame it was caught on cod gear, would have been much more fun to catch it on a light spinning outfit. Still I'm not complaining to much.
  14. Almost forgot to say a big thank ypu to Neal for arranging our participation and the bait in this comp and the Lymington one as well. Really enjoyed the last two days and will be well up for it again next year. Cheers Neal, top man!
  15. Mike, That is about right, one boat managed 7 cod on the first day. A lot of the fish were small though in the 4lb-8lb bracket. I managed a fish that was weighed at 12lb 9 The only problem was it was silver and shiny and so didnt win any prizes.
  16. Well done Alun, great result. Lets hope you can replcate it on wed/thursday. Cant wait!
  17. Very Smart.
  18. What a nightmare Mike! George must be well cheesed off, he's waited a while to catch that fish. Don't know anything about cameras but good luck getting it sorted.
  19. Could be up for that Neal, will check out the work situation and let you know.
  20. Nice boat congratulations. That South Easterly on Saturday was a real pig. We travelled 10 miles SE offshore and after deciding it wouldnt be comfortable to sit out there at anchor cut across to the Needles so have got an idea as to how your trip may have been. Not to sure I would want to have been travelling for 8 Hours. Certainly a good way to get used to the boat though. Nice one.
  21. Glad that everybody had a good day and we all caught, two very nice fish Paul well, done. I have got a cracking photo of you and the 21lber on my phone, I will send it to you later. Well chuffed for George getting his biggest ever Blonde, I know he has been after one for a while. Reputation as skipper now back in tact. For the record my catch today, 2 blonde Ray 1 mackeral 1 bream 3 dogfish
  22. Today really was a waste of time. Wind made me think twice about venturing out to the planned mark so headed off to the island as well. Should have stayed at home! dogfish and strap conger was our lot. Venturing a few more miles out to try and find some more tide bought more bites but wind against what little tide there was meant we were beem on to the chop. Not that nice really. Now feeling a little unmotivated for 2mo.
  23. AWOL is now fully booked. will be out both days so hope to see you all out there.
  24. Mike, sorry mate but almost as soon as I posted Saturday was filled. I have just had a call from Paul D confirming he is available for Sunday but can take one more if George or A N other would like to come. Adam, Good news that the boat is back! Not to sure what the plan is for Saturday as yet, havent even looked at the weather properly yet but will be going as far as it allows, maybe IOW, Y RAY or similar. Sunday will depend on how Saturday goes. Dean
  25. Paul, I do have space for Sunday, have pencilled you in. Let me know.
