    Hooks

Not something that I really think about a great deal, as long as they are sharp and strong enough to do the job I'll just buy whats in the shop. Speaking to a match angler the other day though and was amazed at just how many different types of hook he uses. When fishing a summer match for smaller species he will not use any hook unless it is silver as he then stands a chance of catching a Mackeral or Gar on the retrieve. Just goes to show how much preperation some people put in. Maybe thats why everyone else catches more than me.
  2. Well done Adam, A plaice out of Poole is no easy task, nice one mate. Me and the old man are out doing the same 2mo so fingers crossed. Where abouts inside the harbour were you? D
  3. Cheers Guys, just surfaced from my pit after a very enjoyable if a little hazy evening/morning. Heads o.k just need to keep the shades on
  4. You kept that boat really well Adam. I bet the new owner is well chuffed. Just need to find your new one now!
  5. Dont worry. His old scrubber will be on board! Thats me by the way before anyone gets any funny ideas!!
  6. Flattie bashing is always a good bet. Even I have managed a few of the beach this year. The big plus is that you dont have to cast far so if you havent got the kit or just cant cast far its not a problem. At high tide fish can be literally right under your feet ! Rockley always fishes well for flatties but I have been told that to the right hand side of Evening hill is also fishing well with quite a few fish coming out. The good thing with Evening Hill is that if the weather turns nasty you can sit in your car! Tight lines and let us know how you get on.
  7. Curry dosent really taste too good the second time around!
  8. well done mate. Sounds like an eventfull day both fish and weather wise. shame about the lost fish but suppose thats fishing. well done again for a great result.
  9. No Adam, we were out on my friends boat which is a 17' benetau sports fisher. Thankfully the weather wasnt actually that bad when we got round to Arne and it did calm down. when we steamed back home 7.00 in the morning the wind had gone and the harbour was like a mill pond. glad it didnt go the other way cos that would have been another story.
  10. A friend and I had planned an all night fishathon on Friday night. The weather was some what wet and just a little windy but being the hardened (mad) fisherman that we are, we left Wareham about 4.00pm with the rain lashing down and a very gusty force 6-7 blowing us all over the show. We had only planned to fish the harbour for flatties and once we got settled close in shore at Arne it was very comfortable. The fishing did not set the world alight with a few small bass and flounder but we did have rather an interesting encounter. At about 11.30pm the police helicopter was circling the harbour. We heard on the vhf the police rib spaeking with the Bournemouth Belle and it became clear they were looking for thieves who had been active in the harbour that night. The helicopter then started to circle the area we were fishing. All of a sudden the night became day as its searchlight lit us and the boat well and truly up. Blimey that light is bright. Next thing we know spotted in the distance we saw police launch ALARM steaming towards us under cover with no lights on. Oh dear! On arrival it turns out that they had seen our flashlights and presumed that we were in fact the robbers. It was obvious that we weren't as right on que just as they arrived I pulled in a small bass. After taking our details they left us to carry on the nights fishing and dicuss this interesting experience. OK so this time they caught the wrong guys but it proves that although the Police are fighting a losing battle with marine theft they are at least making an effort. Keep up the good work!
  11. Brian had another one out of the beach at rockley boat park last night. Had loads of other bites but they wern't really having it due to the small tides.
  12. yes rich you tend to get the larger fish in Holes Bay but better numbers Wareham way.
  13. Excellent news James, I wish you the very best of luck (not that you need it!).
  14. Hi Rich, Spoke to a few lads who fished holes bay of the beach over the weekend with no joy. I myself caught one of the beach at rockley last week. Wareham end I think tends to fish better early on with Holes Bay starting a little later.
  15. We have always dropped the hook well up tide of a bank and trotted back sinking the hook as the bank starts to come up on the sounder. When the tide is running you are then trotting back as bob says fishing from the top of the bank all the way to the bottom. Having always fished that way I cant say that fishing in to the bank wouldn't work but I would certainly prefer to fish the downtide side. A lot of fish will patrol the top half of the bank waiting for food items and small fish to be swept over the bank by the tide/caught in the turbulence just behind the banks peak. On the other hand I suppose you could say that the fish will be were the food is and if its elsewhere they will be too.
  16. Les, I think we will be taking Maverick out on Sunday. Not sure where yet but might see you out.
  17. Coddy, Try using sandell, live if poss or a slither of mackeral on a 6 foot flowing trace and drift. Try drifting the gravel patches by Boscombe pier or just out from the cafe on the beach at southbourne.
  18. there are a few small brill/turbot being caught off Southbourne beach at the mo.
  19. Cheers Guys. Its nice to be back on form. As Charlie says it has certainly helped to erase memories of Alderney. The money will come in handy too. Thanks to Mark and Rich for making the effort to come back and support your fellow club member. Nice to keep the Poole Bay Small Boat Flag flying!
  20. I too had an enjoyable morning. That was until the excess alcohol drunk the night before made an appearance. I'll never learn! Still nice to get out. looking forward to the next time we leave Weymouth when it will be over the horizon to fill our boots with turbot over the banks of Alderney
  21. I personally had a craking day. Makes a change to be pulling in Thornbacks as quickly as we pick up dogs back home. Shame we couldnt connect with a cod or two but an excellent days fishing and nice to try something new. Charlie, dont worry about the rod. Accidents do happen. It performed well throughout the day and did not spoil the fishing at all. Appolagies for biting your head off in the morning. My patience/temper isn't what it should be after certain events that I wont go in to. Thanks to those that organised it all and I will look forward to seeing the Burnham boys down here.
  22. Apparantly digging worms at the moment is a bit of a mare. They are spawning at the mo making them hard to dig as they fall apart on first contact leaving a nice green gooey mess. most people i have talked to even dragging on a boat are finding it a bit difficult.
  23. i will check with the other half but i have told her i wasnt fishing this weekend so might not go down to well. will let you know if i get any joy.
  24. whoops not logged in!!
