  1. Without a doubt bream, with a distinct pink hue? Red Bream???? OK, well certainly not an eel, can we start from there and go forward? Please send fish identity chart asap OR you guys are just whimps that can't catch red bream Mad Mike
  2. Went out about mid day in sunshine and a bit of a breeze, off to a mark that I had not tried before (Sadler). Just like the cartoon Peanuts as soon as the anchor gripped a large band of black cloud came up to sit on top of us and the wind rose to about a 5 with a long fetch all the way from Cornwall . But we thought we would at least have a go... Impossible to get any bait down to the bottom without it being stripped by minute bream. Eventually as a point of principal and going down to a freshwater size 10 hook I did hook one and after a vicious fight lasting all of 15 seconds I scooped up a 4" long red bream . By now it wasn't comfortable being out there with lumpy short waves bouncing us arround, so we upped the hook and went off to join all the other angling boats sitting in the shelter of Brownsea. Minute bream wereonce again a pest but Marks son did hook and land a very nice plump red bream of I guess a pound and a bit. After an enforced four weeks of not being out it was lovely to be out there again even if the fishing was not brill'. Friday coming looks a fair day and Monday next week looks even better so here's hoping. Mad Mike

  7. Charged out to the Saddler ??? The Lenny ??? I have never heard of these marks? Or are they private code for marks you keep secret ?? By the way, you seem to have hammered the fuel tank Or are you blessed with a diesel Mad Mike
  8. Well done you guys who stuck to your guns in the face of a forecast of rain rain and more rain. I don't knw about the western solent but in Bournemouth it was a lovely lovely day. I hope the catches were up to the weather and look forward to hearing all about it. Me I spent most of the day making the house spotless for Carols return from hospital in the afternoon. Mad Mike
  9. Cobbs Quay (google it to get the details) have some temporary berths available by the week or day. Any berth in Poole will be expensive! Mad Mike
  10. I think it is a first class idea. I would go as far as sugesting a specific comp or comps where just that happens, sorta like a mixed double 1 novice + 1 competition expert per boat. Whatever way the idea gets my vote. Mad Mike

    Slip Way

It is a free public slip way, but it's use has been tailored to suit the commercial fishermen who need a dinghy to get to their boats in Holes bay. The slip has been constructed in such a manner as to make launching anything but a light dinghy virtually impossible due to a dog leg in the final approach by road. The other down side is the EXTREME parochial attitude of the commercial fishermen who feel and act as thought it is THEIR slip way, as they did with the older slip nearer the bridge. I would not advise parking (if one can indeed find a space) or attempting to leave a dinghy unattended there. The new slip has no benifit at all to those wanting to launch anything over 12ft. To our trailer boating lads it is a crock of ****. Mad Mike

  13. For the novice and nervous amongst us: What qualifies as favourable please? And is it the same as comfortable? Morning looks fairly sunny but intermittent to steady rain in the PM and 10 to 12 mph Southerly winds. My Carol is in hospital at the moment and due to be 'sprung' on Sunday PM. If the weather forcast looks a bit better (less rain) on Sat' the MIL has offered to pick Carol up and spend the day with her so I can go fishing the comp'. How late can I leave it to enter??????? Mad Mike
  14. According to the report on the TV they were from Birmingham down on holiday and had been seen earlier wave jumping in the tide rip off Bembrige Ledges. Fools rush in where angels etc Mad Mike
  15. Well there is that explination of course. Has anyone noticed an increase in the number of dead cockerels with their throats cut but minus entrails? Or, and this is a long shot, a goats skull nailed to a tree somewhere around Parkstone? There is certainly a noticable lack of virgins in Poole, and the way to a gods heart is through sacrifice as my old Druid Master used to say Mad Mike
  16. Charlie, I feel humbled yet at the same time rather special Thank you I think????? Mad Mike
  17. As I said in previous mails this years poor weather has been caused by a shift in the west to east Atlantic jet stream, and once this shift establishes it's self |(as it has done) the trend is set for at least 6 to 8 weeks. So for those planning trips/comps here is a forcast for the next two weeks........ Wet, windy and in some areas exceptional but short lived weather phenomena like Tornados, heavy hail, thunderstorms and flash floods. This is not I am afraid a wind up it is what to expect for the next 2 weeks AT LEAST. IMO we are not going to see a miraculous change come August the 1st and possibly no change at all until the autumnal equinox, but that's only my pessimistic feeling. Hopefully I am wrong and we get an Indian Summer in September and October. This late period of settled weather in the early autumn is one feature that is often seen after very poor summers caused by the sway in the jet stream.... Here's hoping Mad Mike
  18. Trying to compete in off the wall remarks with MM will send you the same way as him. Charlie, Is that a compliment or an insult? Mad Mike
  19. Plot what plot? It's only fishing Mark Not life or death Take a chill pill before ambition overtakes enjoyment Mad Mike
  20. Mark is very possessive about his ticktacks, he once lost one between the car seats and has never recovered. Mark mate chill out I have all the notes I need on the way you fish, spy plane U2's over Porland. Dark men in dark cloaks slipping through the shadows placing miniturised cameras the size of 3 atoms in your tackle box. Actually it's a bit of an insult to suggest that I would want to be on your boat after all the trouble I have been to to stalk you. I mean it's not as though I would play around over a matter a serious as this Mad Mike PS Trust no one, paranoia is OK
  21. Charlie, are you going to have a very private launching ceremony or invite us over to have a cheer? I for one would love to see her launched and drink a glass of milk stout to her success. Mad Mike PS I'll bring me own stout
  22. I have my own little mints thank you very much. Mad Mike
  23. A great moment Charlie well done. Mad Mike
  24. Spoken in the true spirit of friendship and co-operation, that's what the club is all about Mark....... Isn't it? Just pop an X on all the fish you feel are yours and I'll not fish for them. Mad Mike
  25. Thank's Rich I think I will take you up on that. I have a smallish blue bin that holds about 5gallons is that too small? Yes I still have those little rigs I will try next time I am out. Mad Mike
