  2. Paul D not satisfied by the top speed of his Orkney moves the bar upward!!! Marines unveil stealth boat as latest weapon in war on terror Last updated at 18:08pm on 2nd July 2007 Comments (3) This new secret superboat is the latest British weapon to help fight the war on terror. The stealth boat, to be used by the Royal Marines, is thought to be capable of reaching speeds of about 70mph. The vessel will be used in various roles including the insertion of troops in enemy territory and the hunting of drugs smugglers. It is believed to have been designed and built by VT Halmatic, based in Portsmouth, Hants, as a replacement for two boats currently used by the elite SBS. Experts believe the dull-grey boat will have been designed using stealth technology to help it avoid radar detection. The new stealth superboat is believed to be capable of reaching 70mph - which, on the water, is terrifyingly fast One of the boats has been spotted being put through its paces off the coast in Poole, Dorset, where the SBS is based. It will then be rolled out for service around the world. With special services on operations in numerous theatres of war around the world, the new craft will see plenty of action. They will be used to insert and extract troops, patrol dangerous waters and hunt down drug smugglers in the Caribbean. The new boats are thought to be replacing the VSV - very slim vessel - and a more traditional-looking interceptor craft that have been in service for some years. An anonymous source said: "The thing certainly has a menacing style and is incredibly quick and quite quiet. "I daresay it is extremely versatile and can be adapted so it can be employed in a number of roles. "Apparently it is a replacement for two boats that are used by the SBS at the moment, but of course will have to undergo very tough trials. "Other boats used by the special services have angled designs to help avoid detection by radar and they are coated in radar-absorbent materials. "The hulls are designed to produce a small wake and with a top speed of anything up to 60 knots they are formidable craft - and this is the newest design. "Nobody knows too much because there has been a lot of secrecy about them, but they are British built and have been spotted in Poole going very quickly." Mad Mike
  3. Trailaway Sun Another weekend with a strong chance of change at the last moment. Currently Friday will be wet and windy as the tail end of a low goes through, Saturday a ridge will form giving gentle winds and a pleasant but somewhat cloudy day, Sunday the ridge collapses and the next front comes our way bringing higher or even high winds and rain. However the 12 to 15 hours of the ridge of high pressure influencing our weather can be earlier or later than Saturday day time. It may be late giving a a nice evening and a gentle night into Sunday, or early and form in the early hours of Saturday morning and fade away by Saturday lunch time. It may end up as one of those last minute calls again. Mad Mike
  4. so I am sure it will be quite reasonably priced Ha hahahaha Oh the innocence of the man, the poor fellah. Paul, take both gold cards, the deeds of the house and sell the kids into slavery Actually I do hope you prove my cynicism wrong as it would go a long way to improving my dark thoughts about O/B manufacturers and their pricing policies. 5. That's a cracking good roach and a very nice Bream. Christchurch certainly offers a lot. Mad Mike
  6. But then again I could be wrong! Mad Mike
  7. Oh I have just remembered. The crate and facilities for the animal in transit MUST comply with the UK regulations, not the regulations (if any) at the point of departure. The length, hight, width, and air circulation of the crate have to meet the requirements. So too must access to water and food during the flight be arranged. I would Google 'importing a dog into the UK and follow the leads you get from that. Mad Mike
  8. Kam you need to have all quarantine proceedures fixed in advance of import. The animal will be removed from the plane by the airports Animal Welfare people and moved directly to their quarantine quaters. You may visit the animal there but its removal to it's permanent quarantine quarters has to be done by the regestered quarantine kennels. It is an expensive process and very tightly controled. 9. Following through to the last barometric chart although there is a low mid Atlantic to the SW of us, there is the beginings of a ridge of high pressure building up between the Bay of Biscay and the sw approaches of the UK. This if it continues to develop could mean a few days of good weather in about a weeks time. Mad Mike
  10. Adam, my first port of call for odd lengths of S/S is Walter Shaw scrap metal at Nuffield estate Poole. You have to go and scratch round their shed or S/S pile yourself but if they have something like what your after you might have to pay up to

  13. I was reading a Met Office doc yesterday that suggested that the current trend of northerly biased winds with continual lows tracking WSW to NE is due to a slow down in the west/east jet stream. This is due to exceptionally warm weather over the Canadian prairies (the cause of the vicious tornadoes they are having at the moment). The bad news for us is that these conditions usualy last for a long time (3 to 4 weeks). Based on current estimates they do not expect any great change in the outlook for another 10 to 14 days. In fact even more gloomily if they have not changed by then the trend will continue throughout the 'summer'. Mad Mike

  16. No he meant Wafi's. You and yours Mr Fox have the unique and well justified position of being a sane and sensible Motorboat/Fisherman dude, that carries a mast and sails purely for the dubious status they might inspire at Cowes or Newtown Creek. "Ai see may min, is that a mickirill one has caught?" Mad Mike
  17. As we are talking about reels, has anyone heard of Toothy Critter baitcaster multipliers. I have a brand new one coming my way. Apparantly they are machined from a solid marine/aircraft spec ally billet. Mad Mike
