  2. Did you use "magic" tape to seal it? Coddy No he was the one with the bad 'spell'-ing that Pete was talking about. Mad Mike
  3. I don't know if you guys have seen the forcast for Saturday? It is forcast to be sunny all day with gentle breezes! Mad Mike
  4. Generally Kam IMO chandlers are the last place to go. I view almost all of the Marine retail trade as rip off merchants. The prices charged are outrageous. Right, rant over Somewhere in your area will be a specialist stockist of small bore thread and pipe fittings. They usualy trade in the automotive and truck market. Use Yellow pages to find one. Take the pipes and tanks etc with you and say "I want to join this to that, and it carries petrol". He will sort it out easily. If you have a problem, there is a guy down here that I use. Mad Mike
  5. Looking at these two postings , then the weather and knowing that we have a birthday bash at home the night before, I think I might be cowardly and back out. I don't mind getting the 'Killer Looks' from the Dear Lady Wife if it's a warm and sunny days fishing but............ Forcast is for 13/15mph SW winds with torrential rain and bloody cold (14deg). So may I please make a tactical withdrawal from the crew list. Knowing 'sods law' Sundays weather will now be tropical calm!! Mad Mike

Charlie, what a brilliant story I would have loved to have been there as a spectator. I am still giggling every time I think of it. As they say "You wouldn't believe it if it were in a film". Have you ever thought of writing these sort of memories down in story form? It may seem daft to you now but your kids kids and others will love them in fifty years time. I am being serious (for a change), as we (our society) change to a sms verbal/ electronic culture one on one story telling is disapearing. Our grandchildren will know less about us than we know about our grandparents. Your story has charm, humour and is well told. Write it down and others too they might become the most valuable thing you leave behind you. Mad Mike
  7. Well bugger me I didn't see the bit about yours being a four stroke That's a whole kettle of a differant worm A very good question and one I admit to not knowing the answer to but......... A cars engine has a pressurised water cooling system that works above the normal boiling point of water. Therefore the lubricant is designed to work within the temperature gradients apparant in a modern 4 stroke cars (pressureised cooling) system. However I think that your O/B will have a direct water cooling system and therefore work at under the boiling point of water. This being the case the specified O/B oil may be of a lower viscosity because it runs at lower temperature than automobile engines. Having said that there are some high spec low viscosity oils available for the motorist but I bet they cost more than the pukka O/B stuff. Mad Mike
  8. Aaaaaaaaaaagh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK maybe a bit over the top but......... O/B oil is especialy formulated to burn yet lubricate at the running temperature of an O/B. In a pinch one can use ordinary two stroke oil for use in aircooled M/C engines which run just a bit hotter than O/B's . BUT car engine oil NEVER!! Car engine oil lubricates in an entierly differant way. Firstly it is designed to be recycled by going through the engie via the filter many times. This means that it's burn temperature is much higher so if used in a two stroke it will not be fully burnt on the exhaust stroke of the pistons and a gooey residue will quickly build up. This residue will be quite harmfull to the engine in many ways. Mad Mike
  9. I have copied this from a diving site that specialises in wreck diving........ http://www.diverforum.co.uk/talkforums/wre...posts/2450.html Post Reply Forum HMS Hood Portland Posted by: Andy Lawrence
  10. I am happy to have a look and I can also knock up a technical drawing with mesurements that a fabricator can work off. Send me a personal message (not too personal mind 'cos I'm a bit sensitive ) and we can arrange a time etc. Mad Mike
  11. I tend to agree Duncan, I think there is a strong defence in favour of PHC potential argument "We guarantee the marked channel, he was not in it" Mike
  12. Printable version Sailors flee luxury cruiser fire Two sailors were forced to abandon their cruiser Two sailors had a lucky escape when their luxury motor cruiser caught fire at sea. The men made it to the safety of their dinghy and watched as their boat exploded into flames and sank off the Dorset coast near Poole. They were picked up after their boat sank in Studland Bay on Sunday morning by another vessel. Its passengers had spotted smoke on the horizon. Their injuries are not known but it is thought they are not serious. The vessel had to be towed out to sea, amid concerns over two small bottles of potentially-explosive butane gas on board. Coastguards say the weekend was one of the busiest of the year, with three times the average number of distress calls. Mad Mike
  13. 6 to 7tons! what a anchor!! I 'spose it was just a 'fluke' that he hit it Whoops insurance?!?!?! Surely he wouldn't have been daft enough to take people out whithout insuring himself and the boat? Mad Mike
  14. Adam, I have totaly confused myself and two others . This is somewhat of a disapointment to me as I am usualy able to confuse far more people than this. However here is the thing ........... I would ,like to crew for someone on the Weymouth trip of 22nd. I have mentioned this to both Paul D and Martin so as it stands I don't know if I am crewing for Paul, Martin, or indeed no one at all Not wanting to offend either Paul who has the power to delete my mails or Martin who could chuck me out all together please will you sort my mess out? Mad Mike
  15. Hey Paul what a good site. presnolly i fown it ded intresting. Seriously it's a smashing site for me. I have never come across it before and will certainly pass it on to my friends at the writing school I use. As for teach' he's a fine one to go on about English and how she is spelt. I mean it's the kids his sort taught that can't spell anyway. And I blame my mistakes on lexdisia. Mad Mike
  16. Rich, here's the thing...................DO NOT SAY ANY MORE ABOUT SUN SEA AND SAND!! You are obviously afflicted by 'Reverse Pre-cognition Syndrom' . This is a rare but well known condition in which the carrier of the syndrom (YOU!) is able to change the future. The problem is, is that the poor shmuck buggers up the future for the rest of mankind. An RPCS sufferer does this when he or she visulises some aspect of their future but they unknowingly REVERSE the affect of their imagined future for everyone else. eg You are going to be taken out for a meal. You think of steak and chips ..........Every other diner gets samonella....... Or your going on, say a fishing trip to Alderny. You think of calm seas and sunshine....... What happens it blows a hoolie and pisses down.. I can tell you see a picture emerging here, so Rich ol' buddy ol' pal think of nothing, zip, nada, zilch but of DOOM AND GLOOM and sure as little eggs are omeletts your Revesed Pre-Cognition Syndrom will turn the world into a cosy warm and happy place for the rest of us. If one followed that logic through why would people put alloy wheels on cars, get tinted glass windscreens, add power enhancing chips to engine management systems added to thier Saxo basics? The answer is obvious. The manufacturers make DOWN to a price not UP to a high initial specification and consumer cost. It's odd that one comes across this attitude so much with motor (all types) engineers. If they weren't taught it as an apprentice it can't be any good. Mad Mike

I've just been listening to CNN talking about hurricain Bonnie which is due to hit the Tamps area in the next few hours. It is going to be the worst hurricain for many years and they are expecting 140mph winds and extensive flooding. If Rich has actually gone I do hope he is OK and if he hasn't left yet I hope there is something left for him to stay. I wonder if ones holiday insurance covers this sort of thing? Mad Mike

I can only speak from my personal experiance but as far as I am concerned they do work and bloody well too. However I think that on a say 20ft semi displacement boat there would be no differance. In fact it may even slow it down. But on up to 18 ft planing hull everything said is true. Quicker on the plane, more positive steering, and lower throttle setting at economical cruising speed. If you go for one and are not in a rush keep an eye on ebay the going price is about
  21. Also the rubber INTERNAL gear stick gaiter on most Fiesta Mk1, 2, 3, ANd Escort Mk1 to 6 will all do the job perfctly with a bit od fettling to make 'em fit. Mad Mike PS If anyone wants to knoe how to get them off from inside the car in 30sec just ask.
