Same thing in Florida Paul. A full charter included your licence. A bare boat and you had to have your own 'visitors' permit. And boy were they checked !! Dead sexy dudes on police jet skis Dark blue wet suits and white bone domes. Carol was REALLY enthralled asked if they wanted to search her!!! Mind you what a differance in attitude. Whenever we were out if they came past they always peeled off over to us with a "Hi Mikey Boy Hi Carol" and stopped for a chat. It was them that told us that in Florida if you were caught fishing without a licence you whole outfit would be confiscated........ wait for it................ That's rods and tackle, the boat, the trailer AND the car that towed it!!!!!!!!! One could buy them back at the monthly county auction!!!! Mad Mike

I've said it before and no doubt I 'll say it again "Boy ! Do you ask good questions!" Right, physics part 604............ Weight/mass/inertia and all that. The wheight of the engine is distributed across and along the hull and because of physics weighs less in the water than out. DONT ASK WHY IT JUST DOES SEE!!! :lol However its mass stays the same. Now mass affects inertia in the following basic way....The more mass the harder it is to get moving. The more mass the harder it is to stop. So a heavy engine could affect the pick up speed but we are talking minimal amounts in this instance. But if you come to a sudden stop the transfer of mass/ inertia from the engine to the transom could be high and THAT is the feature to worry about. The bozo with 200hp on a 17 ft dory could find 200kg of engine doing 30MPH up his arse if he hit summat going fast. In the world of O/B and boats HP and engine weight don't have much interconnection (unlike motor cars) What does matter is HP and hull shape/displacement. However it gets very esoteric from this point on and I will get bored trying to remember my physics quicker than you will get bored reading it!! I reckon any modern 75 to 100 will be a really good match with your hull and you would need a stop watch to proove which one went quicker/better. In actual use they will feel almost the same. So you are saying the chaps at Weymouth have bigger ones ...... Apparantly so! However I 'spose it's what you do with your eel that really counts Mad Mike

Have you done the vhf course yet? Indeed are there any club members that need to take the course? let us know, we may be able to arrange another course if there is enough interest Martin I took my VHF course about 3 years ago and have now lost the certificate. If they can not be duplicated or there is a time limit on renewal I definatly need to go ion the next available course please. Mad Mike

I was chatting on my little web group to a friend in SA and telling him about our little lumpy sea conditions yesterday. He sent me this pic' of what they consider a good day for going out fishing...............

If you find there is no radio traffic on channel 16 but on the other hand there are loads of people talking on channel 91...... AND your hand mike wont reach the clip. Try checking if you've mounted the radio right way up...................... Wild horses would not drag from my lips the name of the person involved ..... but I could be bribed Mad Mike

Rich (by the way is that your name or description? ) Unfortuneatly I dont knoe the answer to either question but............. The guy Alec who supplies the worms was saying he wished he could get sandeels more often and that the 'Poole' sandeels were a lot smaller than the 'Weymouth' eels. SO it sounds like he might be the guy to have a chat with. Mad Mike

I'll second that. Provided the money is turned back into fishing as a sport and a business, creating both sporting fisheries and conservation measures. Mad Mike

Oh yes I see your point, but I didn't want to be accused of advertising for him sorta thing................ You will find his advert in the Echo under 'Shooting and Fishing' but how the hell one loads rag worm into a 12 guage Lord only knows! His name is Alec he is to be found via his mobile 07970 895277. Mad Mike

'Snot really tackle talk but near enough........ I just picked up som rag worm from a new (to me) supplier. A guy called Alec whos advert I saw in the Echo. The worms are perfect no broken ones and the average 9 to 10 inches long. All presented in fresh vermiculite between loose sheets of paper, supp;ied in their own plastic tray!! At

Roy at......... Ringwood Precision Engineering Unit 2, Millstream trading Estate Ringwood Hampshire BH24 3SA United Kingdom Tel 01425 476296 Try this guy for nylon and machining same. Nice enough but a sharp as a sharp thing so don't accept his first price have a haggle. Like the idea of using the chopping boards by the way, neat one Mad Mike
-
Generaly from engineering material stockists, and often on e-bay would you believe. It seems that some small engineering shops are auctioning off their offcuts. However a word of warning. Machine grade nylon is VERY difficult to work, murders tooling blades, and needs very high speed machining so that the cutting blades do not dwell in one spot causing heat friction. Also the swarf splinters and chips if not machined correctly and can become small but dangerous bullets. May be it would be an idea to make a prototype in MDF and when you've got it right find a tame machinist and get it made in nylon. Mad Mike

Oh yes indeed. The American secret wepons were the A bombs 'Big boy' and 'Tall boy' . I was the British secret wepon 'Big Willy' . But the powers that be decided that there could be an enormous cock up if I went off prematurely. The idea was that I would be ejaculated over Germany but they couldnt find anyone prepared to take the matter in hand before the end of the war........... Mad Mike

Ah Dan just a point. The collective for Doggies or to be correct the Lesser Spotted Dogfish is a pack or a shoal. Loads of them are not termed as flocking no matter how many of the flocking fish there are. However one can get, and for that matter frequently do, a load of flocking seagulls. Which if they congregate around your boat means that you get flocking seagull poo all over your head. Mad Mike Whoops...this is a stuttttter
