Brian Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 (edited) We fished the Swash for awhile then came back insid.er the harbour, no plaice just one Garfish to me. Edited April 10, 2011 by Brian Quote
Adam F Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 We struggled on JV today for the Plaice. Over 70 miles travelled and all sorted of tactics tried, but alas - no spotties.... well not the red spotted ones anyway.. Quote
Mike Fox Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 Also travelled for ages and ages on Frisky, and after stopping in a few plaice hotspots (as per last week's trip) we eventually reached the outer reaches of ....Southbourne Rough, where we have had some nice ones before. Alas, not to be, and travelled back via various banks where spotties have been found...but alas...none today. Popping back into the harbour we were discussing the 30 or so fish we had caught, with sun-beaten faces on the calm sea, and we realised we had one ace left. Trundling back up for the 5.30 bridge lift, we still had worms, and with the flood tide it meant we had a spare 20 minutes. Dangled a few worms in the traditional manner in a highly public hotspot, and Carol got the only plaice on the boat all day. A full 7oz , weighed on digital scales, and naturally returned. Best so far ? Mike Quote
Stuie Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 Like several of the Poole based boats we went out early to the Swash and difted, and drifted finding not a lot other than frustrating weed. Eventually, around lunchtime a flastty obliged - a flounder at long last of just under 1lb. Thirty minutes later a spotty did likewise - 32cm and 15 ounces in all. A glorious day out - what weather. Alfie on Dream Drifter managed two spotties I believe, and larger too. Quote
bassncodformeplease Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 Managed 4 on my boat at the shambles. 2 each for me and kev(ten four) my best was 1lb 4oz (weighed at home 8hrs after capture!) mike(pushedupmyspecieslistbyfourtoday ) Quote
alun j. Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Hi Mike, were they on the Shambles or off on the mussel beds? Our two on Fri were at the latter......proof was inside.... stuffed with little mussels! Alun. Quote
LiveBaiter Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 No plaice for us on MONDAR yesterday. Added three species to the species list, (nothing special) and there were a couple of Bream about on the ledge - although not to us. Endured a total fiasco at Mudeford slip on the retrieve when the winch jammed and strap snapped! Luckily no damege - other than to pride! After keeping loads of jet skiers waiting (what a shame) we managed to manhandle the boat onto the trailer without a winch, and eventually got home after a smashing day. Toby Quote
alfie Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Set out from cobbs just after 8am with one crew [ the wife ]. All rods assembled prior to the plaice event thanks to the practice day on the Saturday where after a 5 hour session I blanked. As soon as I entered the swash area the wife set up the first drift while I threaded the large rag onto the hooks, This was my job as the wife had left her gloves at home and she refused to touch them unless she could cut the heads off Four rods all single hooks over the side with 2 oz lead....."wait for it" said the wife she had a feelin of luck.........1.30pm and the only feelin she had was myself rubbing sun lotion into her back. we moved location and attempted to catch anything off the back of old harry, nothing not even a nibble and so back to the swash area. Set up a drift close to the hook sands and close to 3pm felt the nibble and hooked the first red spot cleanly in the side of the mouth, not big weighing in at 22 ounces, measured and photographed just to remind the wife who had caught the only fish of the day so far. Continued with the drift over lumpy ground and when checking the condition of the bait I had a second red spot, 15 oz ......Now I did not admit to the wife that I never felt this one and gave her clear instructions on what so was doing wrong, her face told it all At 5 pm we called it a day and headed back to clean the boat off where I constantly reminded her who had caught and who had not !!!!! Rob Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Toby, Bad luck re. trailer! I have a 2 ton ratchet strap that holds the bow down on the trailer - it is far too long and far to big for the job - however this is my backup winch if ever needed. I could ratchet the boat up slowly then tie off - unwind, ratchet some more etc etc. Hoping not to need it as I got a new shiny winch from TrailerTek at Micheldever (just round the corner from you!). Well done for annoying jetskiers!! Rob Quote
